Only the 1.8 had a wet belt and they stopped selling that engine around 2010. The 2.0 was a PSA engine and didn't have a wet belt.
An Irish favourite, a 2010 Fluence, with a decent NCT
A fresh looking 2005 Golf, €2000
€1600 for a tidy Audi A6, 2007, 2.0 petrol, and an NCT until August 2022
They have aged very well, however that one is a poverty spec, no ac, etc
Where did all these go? Used to be thousands of them around and always a few dozen on donedeal. Only one available with an NCT (and it's brand new). Nice colour, nice wheels, still looks presentable after all the years and still a great drive if the suspension has been looked after.
Shame about the scratch but it's a good bargaining tool, might be a bit pricey, but they are now rare.
2003 Alfa 156 1,8 T-Spark, NCT 2023, €2,200

Wouldn’t be a bad idea increasing the limit to €3,000 considering the price of cars has risen sharply. Might liven up the thread a bit.
Agreed 100%. Great suggestion, and overdue.
But considering they're 'printing' euros to beat the band, more like.
oooooh, €3K would be a big jump... we'd only be buckling to the trend.. €2500 I say!
You've been told what model to get, 2014 onwards to get the more reliable gearbox and haggle hard to get a good price and with the money saved get the sump dropped and the pickup seal replaced. With that done you'll have a decent car.
Not sure if people are misinterpreting my comment. What I meant was I took "if you must" to mean avoid one altogether, but if I was going ahead regardless to get one from 2014 onwards. I wasn't being smart - I appreciate the advice as I know very little about cars.
I'm looking for something comfortable for myself that the kids won't destroy (every time I clean the family car it's covered in toys, cracker dust and Mcdonalds wrappers in no time), I won't be doing big mileage and would likely change to something higher value in a couple of years. Latest thinking is probably to try to find an automatic Laguna / Mondeo in the sub 4k range, so getting out of scope for this forum. I really like the Peugeot 508 looks-wise, but have read bad things about that 1.6 engine on here too (if I follow correctly).
Decent avensis for your 4k budget
There's a fair bit of wear on that driver's seat, front arm rest and steering wheel for a car that has only covered 170k km in 10 years. Smells of ex psv to me.
Honest and well done ad from someone who knows their SAAB's. Still a very respectable bus to have parked on the driveway IMO.
NCT to August 2022, €200 of tax left on it. Seems to be a good deal for €1,800.
selling this if anyone is looking for a runaround
new NCT and driving fine, fan belt is a bit squeaky
Only 81000 miles on it
Id like this now
He's being very optimistic with his price, tax is the killer on that car unfortunately.
Wouldn't agree. Lot of car for todays money
€1750 should easily be got
Or cheaper if your a delboy lol
Nah. Very very small market for old tax 2.0+ engines unless it's a Mercedes/Merc/Commercial. That'll be for sale for a long time unless he drops it. I had awful awful trouble selling my 2006 big diesel e91...a far more desirable car with lower milage, I practically gave it away. Its not like that one's absolutely mint with low miles. Its the type of thing if it was parked in your estate for a few days you'd be notifying the Gardai.
When the annual tax bill is over half the value of the car then you will really struggle to sell it at that price.
For 1k or thereabouts I'd say it's a good price but it's too highly priced even with the couple of months tax included.
Tidy looking Starlet with 12 months test and 6 months tax for €999.
Provided you could get insurance on it this would make a very handy little runaround. When you're done with it an old Starlet is always going to be worth something to someone too.
2006 mercedes benz A150
900 eur

Great solid car that's heaps ahead of the likes of starlet above!
Easy to work on😏😏. An absolute pig to work on more like🥵
I didn't mention anything about working on it? From a consumer perspective the A/B class of that era are IMO pretty good practical cars with class leading levels of comfort and finish.
Sorry, your man in the Ad said they were easy to work on.
I don't see that mentioned in the ad. Easy to park is mentioned but not easy to work on.
A couple of nice ones here,
I like the look of this Passat, just no interior shots!
I like the Lexus. Would it be safe to assume similar reliability and / or cost to maintain as a Toyota, or am I being too optimistic?
One model of those had a terrible diesel engine I'm not sure if it's that one a Google search should keep you on the right track.
Seen so many smokey ones. You would want to get a decent drive in one when buying and have a look behind you to be sure on that aspect
