They were called the Sporting Speedgear. They had a CVT gearbox with stepped ratios - which was novel at the time. Nissan did a similar thing on the Primera back then.
they had a tiptronic style +/- shifter too, for a supermini 21 years ago it was briefly way ahead of everything else.
Oddly, they had a 6 speed on the non Sporting 1.2 and 7 speed on the Sporting, only software differences.
I bought a new Punto back in the day :)
How reliable is that CVT box do you know?
Very few were sold here and I don’t think I ever drove one - but anecdotally they gave trouble slipping when they were new.
if it’s survived 20 years it might be ok though!
Some rocket with enough space for the whole family and only one owner. Looks in excellent shape with service history too.
Rare enough in Ireland I'd say!
Not bad value considering the current car market. Expensive to run I suppose and potential for big bills if something goes wrong.
Interesting
310bhp Arteon R:

And another one, thought it was the same car but this one has a pan roof and black grill:

Nice, I didn't know these existed. Not bad value in today's market when compared to 2018 Golf R prices
I think there was no official Arteon R back then but rather the R-Line with the same engine and AWD system from the Golf R. Those look like they are imports too, possibly from Japan. It's funny how they have R-Line badges on the outside but R embossed into the front seats.
I was trying to find a review on a 320bhp Arteon from that year and there aren't any. I reckon it's actually a 280 R-Line. Would explain the badges in any case.

Definitely Jap imports anyway
Speaking of jap imports....anyone got a spare 165k down the back of the couch?
what this is doing in an independent garage in rural Galway is beyond me.
Nothing unusual there. That dealer has always had some exotic metal for sale over the years. Having a pop in to look at some of the unusual cars on his lot was always bit of a tradition if passing that way between Limerick and Galway. Unfortunately since the opening of the M18 motorway it's more out of the way these days.
Well it definitely won’t be sold by a McLaren main dealer here
Here is a hens tooth
A bi turbo A6 allroad on irish plates.
What a waggon 👍

Remove the badges and you have a nice sleeper that looks like any other A4 estate:

As much as I reckon that Giulia will be a guaranteed future classic - last of the breed - its hard to justify it when you can get a brand new 280bhp Veloce for a few grand less.
Apples and oranges to be fair. It's like saying it's hard to justify a 5 year old M3 when you can get a new 330i for similar money.

BMW X5 M Competition Crewcab only 148k plus vat:
on irish plates with an irish spec 🤮
At least going into the future we don't have to worry about Irish spec as new Irish cars for the past while have been well spec'd.
There is a few around, more than you'd think.
They are a lovely drive, one for the brave though financially, seriously soft engines.
Have to credit the owner though, 10 photos and not one of the car.
I did have a laugh at the description
My mother bought a 01 ELX about 20 years ago, it was only about a year old if even. It was her second automatic Punto, the first being a mark 1 which liked to get hot.
I've a vague memory of not long after she got it that it went back in to Tractamotors and she was given a different one for a few days. I remember it giving issues with it's dash cutting out at one stage. Engine or gearbox wise I don't recall any trouble. My aul lad liked driving it.
According to the NCT site it's test was up last March, not bad for a car that was in two smacks.
The automatics in them were only offered in the 16v engine, most on the road here were the 8v. Dunno why Fiat just couldn't have only the 16v tbh.
8 valve engine would have been a lot cheaper to build, I think it stayed in the lineup on the Panda and possibly 500 for a long time after? It was smoother than the 16v too.
with the NCT site, it gives the renewal date as the last anniversary of the actual expiry, I think adverts.ie or donedeal.ie give the actual expiry date.
Check any reg on the nct main screen here. It will give correct nct details
"check nct validity"
The 8v was a much simpler old lump, a non interference engine. A bit more torquey too, low down, which is usefull if you are not into revving the nuts of it. But the 16v is more fun.
It's the most expensive Irish reg stagea ive seen anyway
