How this ever got to this stage, I don't know.
Rubbing the noses of victims in the dirt is about the only thing that Gerry Adams does anymore. A deeply offensive initiative and shows how far the republican movement still has to travel to become part of normal society.
Outlandish? I'm giving my opinion on why it happens. It happening isn't up for debate.
So MC doing an opinion piece about the troubles is 'real events'? Maybe for a blog on the troubles.
Convenient that your concern for the disappeared begins and ends with you conspiracy theories about SF.
I agree.
Mairia Cahill did an opinion piece in relation to Oireachtas Committee hearings on the Disappeared during the previous week. If you think this is a conspiracy, it must be the worst conspiracy ever, because the Oireachtas Committee hearings didn't get coverage on RTE, only featured in one opinion piece, and a few newspaper reports.
They were not the most important thing that happened last week, but they got less than their fair share of newspaper coverage.
That you don't like victims of the PIRA continuing to speak out is obvious and you would probably prefer if some way could be found to silence them. However, that won't stop the McVeighs and Cahills continuing to be inconvenient truths for Sinn Fein.
I link them to being ignored up until its politically convenient. Unlike yourself, I'm all for victims from all sides and none speaking out.
The protests regarding the victims families from all sides didn't get much coverage. I suppose that doesn't interest you as much.
do you think you give to much credence to ms cahill blanch ?
she's gone from sf - dissident republican - labour - sdlp ffs , she is a complete opportunist , and you are doing exactly the same as burton and enda kenny did , using her !
"Seriously, are the MSM really going to try to run with the same old, same old tactics again and again?"
Yes of course, they've nothing else (and see later - I don't even think they have this)
SFs policies are easy to critique if you haven't been in government, I mean the government can hardly say "we already spend more than enough on Health, we just spend it badly" in response to SFs health plans. The government can hardly criticise another housing plan with a straight face when you see the shambles they have created
Thing is though, how can the government with a straight face attack SF based on "the IRA killed a lot of people" when this government is responsible for thousands of needless and avoidable deaths by mishandling the pandemic? Going back longer how many suicide victims would be alive if we had proper mental health services etc etc etc. Its too serious a topic to say it's laughable but I think you know what I mean
She has been very consistent in what she has said throughout all that time.
gerry adams consistently maintains he was never a member of the provos .
no doubt you believe him to ?
"Thing is though, how can the government with a straight face attack SF based on "the IRA killed a lot of people" when this government is responsible for thousands of needless and avoidable deaths by mishandling the pandemic?"
So if this government is responsible for 'thousands of deaths from Covid', how many lives are they responsible for saving?
Not on a picket my friend.
Where are the sullen -faced band with the professional downtrodden look in the picket line, intermixed with Shinner TDs.
Do you not think that welfare cheats need to be called out, pal, or are you happy to be stiffed?
Very strange post to read,I have to be very honest to say.
"how many lives are they responsible for saving?"
No idea - how many do you think?
Many many..
What a load of rubbish. The death rate from Covid in Ireland has been lower than in many many other countries. It is much too serious a topic to put up misleading nonsense like this.
Blanch we went through this last Jan/Feb so I won't go down the rabbit hole again - and tbh it is laughable you'd use the word "nonsense" to refer to anyone posting on this forum seeing the utter tripe you shame yourself by posting
Why did we not make wearing masks mandatory til August 2020? Why did the government ignore warnings over meat factories? Over opening schools without masks/ventilation etc etc. But as usual - we can point to someone who may be worse to deflect so Blanch is happy
If welfare cheats are such a problem, why on earth would you want things to continue as is? Seems you're happy to be stiffed mo chara.
I can't imagine many would bother their barney going out to protest against their golden geese.
I thought we were going with the mother and baby homes there.
Generations allowrd be abused and babies sold and killed by unchecked civil war parties because of their relationship with the church.
You're right though, they probably saved more than they killed during covid. Not sure what the winning numbers are.
Why 'no idea'? I mean you've already figured out they're responsible for thousands dying and you the expert are asking me.
Well opening up pubs etc resulting in 1000s of deaths is very easy to assess tbh. Would you disagree with that? Its more difficult to put a number on the other failures but, yeah, I'm comfortable with my statement that the government is responsible for 1000s of deaths that didn't need to happen and were completely avoidable
There isn't a single government that hasn't made mistakes in handling an unknown, ever-changing, dangerous pandemic.
Yes, we opened up last Christmas quicker than medical advice, but slower than the opposition parties, including Sinn Fein, wanted the government to move, wasn't it the previous October that Mary-Lou wanted the pubs open.
Performance in the pandemic can only be judged in relative terms, and the country has fared well in relative terms, and in decision-making this government has fared well relative to how the opposition wanted it to perform.
But the number of lives they saved, surely you've applied your impressive logic to that estimation?
Not enough - that an ok answer?
1000s of deaths from the opening of pubs????
We have had around 6,000 deaths from Covid in Ireland. Where is the statistical link that 1000s of them were caused by the opening of pubs.
Not really I'd expect something more precise from such an obvious intellect.
Ah blanch - "opening up pubs etc", i.e. the free for all last Xmas (but you knew that but couldn't resist a deflection attempt)
As I said refer to last year's discussion, no point going in circles. The most criminal thing is that so many of the failures were predicted by actual experts at the time and ignored by the government yet people still use the "nobody saw it coming" excuse
Exhibit A last November: Covid-19: we're about to make a terrible mistake
Exhibit B: before schools reopened
Re masks wearing: rather than admit a failure of procurement the government questioned their efficacy and waited til August 2020 to make wearing mandatory
Tbh - this probably belongs more on the govt thread, its been a tangent from a SF thread
Not surprised you might have missed this. Eight stories down on the RTE website;
Survivors and relatives of those murdered in the Miami Showband massacre are to receive nearly £1.5m (€1.75m) in total damages to settle claims over suspected collusion with the loyalist terrorist murderers.
The resolutions reached in their legal actions against the Ministry of Defence and the Police Service of Northern Ireland were announced at the High Court in Belfast.
Powerful victim impact statements were also given by the wounded band members and those bereaved in the atrocity.
There should be more attention given to victims.
Are you suggesting SF would sort out everything?
😱🥵
I think you missed this:
If welfare cheats are such a problem, why on earth would you want things to continue as is?
We've bigger problems IMO.
So we ignore welfare cheats then, is that what you are implying?
Very very strange, I have to say.
lolol you might think you typed out something different to what you really typed out bendar , were in the post i quoted did you make any reference , any reference at all to " pickets " ???
The empty vessels who make the most noise and who ‘take to the streets after placarding up’ at the drop of a hat.
nothing at all about " pickets " bendar , but i did manage to get you a pic of leo , " placarded up " and " had taken to the streets " pretty lame attempt at moving the posts , have another shot at it pal !!! 🤣
