Bring! It! On!
For anyone who thinks it's a "hollow victory" because Hamilton was faster today it's a season and this race isn't a winner takes all final. Versappen was faster in other races
As I said, it's like trying to get goals deducted after a football match because the referee made an error or tries taken off a rugby score as the video referee made a bad call.
You cannot have a situation where a referee decision can be challenged in court, it's terrible for any sport, not just formula one.
The people saying it should happen, if every decision in a sport can be debated and subject to legal challenges after the event, then we may as well just pack up and go home. That is not what sport is about.
Reckon Merceedes will just continue to lodge appeal until Thursday.
Sore loses at this stage.
Not surprising really.
That's what happens under a safety car. The 11 second lead means nothing once the SC comes out.
With new regulations next season and potentially/hopefully teams like Ferrari/McLaren/Alpine/Aston Martin who haven't won a title in years in legitimate contention these teams will ensure there is solid rule changes to avoid any of them becoming victims of some of a mess like today and to ensure the removal of Masi
They're still crying. It's actually fun watching them meltdown.
RB versus Merc
Stay classless Mercedes.
It was only one of 10 victories. Lewis had 8 victories this year. On balance the right man won, but the manipulation of "the show" that Masi did here was horrible.
Regarding the football analogy, Red card match suspensions have been overturned.
Merc prostesting again? FFS it's getting late, get some sleep.
Applying the rules that way would have penalised Hamilton on lap 1 so I actually doubt the people demanding rules be followed ACTUALLY want them followed strictly.
Every driver out in front loses their lead behind a SC it is nothing new
Merc launching another appeal
Mercedes have appealed the verdict to the FIA.
Was Masi not granting the wish of all teams to finish the race under green flags though?
And Lewis benefitted from poor FIA intervention on lap 1. I hope that decision gets scrutinised in time, even the commentators could phathom it.
For me this race (end) was right up there in terms of excitement with Spa 98 when Jordan took a one-two. The last lap was absolutely edge of your seat stuff.
That sounds like a conspiracy theory.
Have you ever tried braking on really worn tyres compared to a new set with much more grip?
Some people in this thread really need to get a grip (pun very much intentional). Hamilton lost and they're still trying to make him out to be a worse driver than he actually is.
Max wins and still some talk about Hamilton. Talk about living in people's heads rent free.
If people want the rules to be applied with ruthless application of the law expect every single run off to be a penalty, ever single contact a penalty. Races would be a crap show.
You forgot the part of max passing Lewis out in the final lap. If Lewis put up as good a fight as Perez did earlier in the race he might be champion now.
have to say i dont think it was hollow at all...
If ever a post shows a poster hasn't a clue about motor sport, it's this one.
Perez did more than Max in that regard
That's the summary really. Masi shouldn't have done it but ultimately can do what he likes.
They really need to change the rules as there is a potential for much bigger mistakes in the future
As I said earlier that always been the case. I am sure if you looked in the past Charlie made some calls that really annoyed people/went against a rule in order to keep a race going or similar. You need the human element in sports as sometimes rules are so black/white that it leaves no wiggle room. IE the handball rule in football, if you went by the rules exactly as they said there would be 30 peno's a weekend in the premiership.
Maybe the result of todays race might seem hollow. But I doubt it'll bother Max too much if you look at the season as a whole. Verstappen was cursed on a few occasions this year, he'll take this.
The result is right based on the race. Max got over the line first and won. For alot of young viewers (my son included) saw that as Max's win, as he crossed the line ahead of Lewis.
Whether it's the right result based on how it was won, is different. But that's neither Max's or Red Bulls fault.
Whether it's the right result based on lots of incidents this season where there should've been penalties and vice versa, is the bigger question. If stuff was penalised properly throughout the season, maybe none of this would've happened.
But, to go back to my first point, Max won the race and that's what people see.
This is absolute bollocks and you know this. As soon as the lapped cars were allowed to overtake Max was always going to get him.
How do you think Max was able to brake so late in the first place?
Max had all of the advantages of being on brand new two compounds softer tyres compared to the 30+ set Hamilton was on. The grip Max would have had compared to Hamilton would be next level.
The race was won on the track. It was a 58 lap race, not 57. Safety cars happen.
Masi granted absolute power, essentially.
And to be fair, there isn't much else they could do.
