I am delighted for Max Red Bull and Honda. They gave it there all this year and deserved the win. Lewis had more than enough luck all season. It was bound to catch up on him eventually and it did. Can't have all the good luck. It was about time Red Bull and Verstappen got some and well deserved.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Had it not been Kimi's last race I suspected Perez would have won DOTD quite comfortably.

Teammates don't come much better than that. I initially thought he could have done more when Hamilton got passed but the recovery from there was immense.

As I said earlier, Verstappen owes him a bottle from the deepest, darkest, corners of his cellar.

    That. Is BS.

The rules are obvious. The rules were obviously not followed. There is need need to be a director or for theories. Just look at the rules, look at what he did, and look at the outcome.

He made it up and in doing so cheat Hamilton, deliberately.

He'd be behind Max in a faster car, equal or better tyres, on a track where a DRS overtake is quite straightforward...

If Red Bull did do the opposite, Hamilton's tyres would have been significantly better, and he would have breezed past...

The Mercedes strategists have to take some of the blame here... Lewis should never have been in that position at the end

The people defending this - have you ever competed in any sport or just an armchair fan(boy) This is a travesty. As far as I can see, the rule is clear. I don't see any caveat in there that the race director may ignore it to promote racing/for entertainment purposes.

The previous decisions that seemed to go against Verstappen were akin to borderline tackles and cards in football. Whereas the key decision by Masi in this case is more akin to Jimmy Cooney blowing up the 1998 AI hurling semi final early and then people trying to defend it with "ah shur, Clare were the better team and ahead so probably would have won anyway".

Yeah, why can't he just take Masi deliberately cheating them in good grace.

Honestly Merc should appeal get the race nullified. Max still wins and masi gets what he deserves for not following the rules.

So I think Jensen Button was saying on Sky was the rules permit the unlapping of everyone but they wanted at least a bit of a race so stopped at the one between Max and Lewis. They also do not think it be overturned. I think I agree

How do you know the race definitely would have restarted after the last safety car?

As I said, hindsight is beautiful, but Red Bull were in a position where they could take that risk, Mercedes weren’t.

Appeal in. They looking to get the cars back on track then?

Its not a theory. Masi deliberately didn't apply the rules and knew that in doing so it would hand max the title.

I find it a little bewildering that people are ok with how it ended, saying that’s racing etc but that’s not racing, that is just pure and utter luck, Hamilton and Mercedes were in n total control but got some very bad/sketchy luck go against them

You would nearly have to put an astricks next to this win

    Mercedes lodge 2 protests.

As they should if they have concerns over rules not being followed. They wouldn't be doing their jobs if they thought something was wrong and did nothing about it.

Pity Latifi crashed so late, cost him Driver of the Day.

You don't, which is why they should have taken advantage of the VSC earlier on to cover off any late drama...

Their only real opportunity was at the first safety car, once they decided to stay out they were locked into that and were always in danger of outside events affecting them.

I can understand why they didn't pit at the first safety car, but I said at the time and still believe that it was a mistake. The times after that they didn't really have a choice any more.

If Mercedes are going to say that race director instructions can be appealed, then Red Bull should now appeal every single time that rules were not applied in their favour by the race director earlier in the season when they appeared to be contradictory to the rules.

Mercedes are the ultimate in horrible team. They do everything they can to gain an advantage by whatever means possible, but when the same situation happens to them they cry foul.

Didn't seem to bother him at silverstone.
