Bring! It! On!
Let's not forget Checo's epic defending that helped Max catch up. That played a huge part today and kept the pressure on Mercedes.
Red Bull played a blinder today all round.
Yup, has precedent, should have been done as soon as latifi crashed.
The whinging from the same people that said that Lewis driving Max off the track at Silverstone was a racing incident and wasn’t intentional is a joy to behold now. No Michael no no no wha wha wha….
"It’s a motor race, we went car racing,” Michael Massey told Toto Wolff
And he is dead right. There should be a rule against finishing on a yellow (yes I know there isn't right now). It's a sport people watch to be entertained which F1 forgot for too long.
I haven't heard the official reason but pure speculation on my part. Nothing mechanical was wrong, they wanted him gone at the safety car restart so other drivers knew Max was the only Red Bull on track and stayed out of his way
My thoughts are thus.
Michael Masi just had the most pressurised moment of his working life and he had an impossible choice between the principle of 'let them race' and the rule that has been posted above.
I believe, in letting an incomplete field regain their position before green flagging the race once again, he compromised that rule and what happened is now void. I think Mercedes will win an appeal on that point.
However Mercedes do not deserve it, they bottled the last minute tyre change when Red Bull went for it and all else being equal, they threw it away.
But, once the lawyers are all done, I think Hamilton and Mercedes will hold the championship trophies.
God bless Michael Masi all the same, you'd want the wisdom of Solomon in those circumstances.
To be fair, he'd have been behind.
So either way, Max was winning from that point.
Nah. We always talk about wanting races decided on the track and not by the lawyers.
Like I said, the conspiracy theorists are the ones who need to shut up now. Max was handed that win after being significantly second best all race, and fair play to him.
and give a clear pass to Hamilton on lap 1.
These things have a habit of balancing themselves out, to use a bit of soccer parlance.
Masi needs to go. The race director should never be the centre of attention and he's been far too embroiled in controversy to come back next season.
The conspiracy theory forum is thataway ----->
I was thinking more something like an official complaint that probably doesn't change anything material, but the adverse publicity makes those in power realise that this can't happen again and that somebody more competent should be in that role.
Lol an actual conspiracy theory
Yuck. I wouldn’t expect you to have the refinement to have noticed.
This.
How will Hamilton be left with it?
if the race is void, points won’t count for anyone, and max still wins the championship. They can’t re-run it, and can’t just decide to finish it Pre-safety car position.
Claims everyone else is a conspiracy theorist and then in the same post comes out with one of his own. That's impressive.
Lads lets keep it somewhat civil please. Last and only warning.
That won't happen. If they nullify the race then Max sessions anyway.
The fairest thing to do at the end would be to throw a red flag, but Mercedes left him vulnerable to both the VSC and safety car at the end. They had plenty of opportunities to change tyres, but chose not to. They were desperate to hold onto track position even though they clearly showed its not too difficult to get a DRS overtake, and their car was a lot faster than the Bulls with the same tyres on it.
Over the entire season, Max was definitely the better driver. The Mercedes car was much faster in the last few races, but Max was always very close. I'm delighted with the result, and over the moon with the faces Toto was pulling at the end!
No conspiracy here. RC made a decision and then went back on it at the last second, and didn’t even apply the rules correctly.
Are you going to tell me that I’m wrong?
As I said, Max kept his head when others wouldn’t have been able to, and is a deserving champion.
Seeing Toto in a rage is very entertaining.
I would say just watch the first laps the fast forward to lap 15 or 16 when you see Perez and Hamilton together. Watch that then fast forward to the last lap watch that and that is all you need to see. That's it really.
I'm just glad I got to enjoy that as a neutral. Enthralling stuff.
I don’t know why this has to be repeated.
Mercedes would have lost track position, because RB would have just gone the opposite.
It was also not set in stone that the race definitely got back underway, so pitting Hamilton would have meant he’d end up behind Max.
(Edit)
No, he handed the title to Max in the end.
Same as he'd have handed it to Lewis if it had finished under a safety car.
But he made his choice.
I plan on doing that when I get home to my gaf.
I had C4 on the phone at the resteraunt, no sound though so very hard to follow properly.
Have it recorded so can't wait to get back and watch it.
Delighted for Max.
Well said.
