The rest? 24%
Available to be convinced along with the don't knows.
No, the rest of the questions. Not good from a UI perspective.
I'm surprised, have to say. With Brexit it looked like it could happen but public opinion is going in the opposite direction in both countries.
Valiant spin there JH
Jaysus Francie, hardly gonna spin those results as a positive!
A United Ireland sometime in the future as long as it doesn't cost anything and the flags and anthem stay the same! Good luck convincing NI they are wanted with that.
Probably not gonna hear much about the poll from SF but would be interesting to know what they think all the same.
Must be strange for them being the biggest political force on the Island yet a UI just isn't important to the public.
What way do you think the polls would go if a SoS called a BP and the government produced a white paper/plan?
Get the calculator out.
Be even worse, do you really think those who believe it's not very important will be willing to pay for it?
We will all be contributing towards the running of the country JH. Just like we are now.
Nobody has made a case for a UI yet. I think convincing people who 'want' something will be fairly simple, yes.
Starting with a major disadvantage with the general apathy in the Republic.
Next big test is the Citizens Assembly, if that doesn't turn things around then it hasn't a hope in the short to medium term.
According to twitter the majority don't want to pay extra taxes but also they don't want to curtail Public Spending either!
Lucky SF didn't make a song and a dance out of the Hubner report where all budget surpluses needed to be invested in NI over the guts of a decade!
'Ah 'twitter' is useful now? :)
As I said, valiant effort by those who would negate any poll findings.
Vast majority want it, next task is to see can it be delivered.
Lost me about Twitter. Using it to find out what questions were asked.
Lot of pressure on SF with this. Biggest party but no appetite for a UI amongst the public.
Will they work on what's important to the public and put a UI on the back burner or risk alienating their new supporters by focusing on it?
Not even I think we should have a BP yet Jh.
Why would they put something a majority want on a 'back burner'?
We SHOULD be planning for a UI though. No preparing for something so significant is incompetent and bad governance.
We know you want the question to go away, but it won't.
We should be planning for it.
I don't think the question will go away. Based on the polls it doesn't look likely at all. Future generations might have a different view of it though.
Did it say how many were against it? Seems like everyone is in favour. I would expect very few have it as a priority next to food, clothing, housing.
Not all doom and gloom. Think the amount who are against it about the same as those for whom it's very important.
Do you see positives in this poll like Francie?
We absolutely should be planning for it but your dismissals of the poll results showing a majority would be against it if it meant changing the flag and anthem on top of tax question is kind of ridiculous.
These questions have finally been asked in a poll that cannot be dismissed and the answer was clear so people like yourself and SF have their work cut out for them convincing this majority that changing the flag, anthem and potential tax increases are worth it. Personally i dont think they are and it would take a lot of convincing to change my mind. Also I would argue as time goes on the harder this probably will become much harder due to different values younger people coming of voting age will likely have.
All im saying is this poll shows its far from a done deal and pretending that's not the case like you seem to be doing wont make it just magically happen.
I don't want flag or anthem to change Vin...nor do I want to pay more tax. My answers would therefore be the same.
None of the 3 would cause me to vote no though.
As I said before, once there is a plan...then you can take polls seriously.
I disagree this poll should absolutely be taken seriously as the 2 questions are gonna be key parts of any plan and to get unionist buy in, which will be needed for a successful UI in the short and long term, those 2 questions are gonna be a big sticking point so knowing how many people would vote no if they were to change is very important prior to the starting of any plan discussions.
so you want a UI just with out accommodation for those who dont share your opinions exactly ?
and sf pretend among other things be a democratic group
No Mike.
If I was asked would I change the flag or anthem, my answer would be no, my preference would be to keep them.
If the flag and anthem were changed democratically then I can live with that, however.
That is the very essence of being a democrat.
Nothing like a bit of satire to put things in perspective.
This is delusional stuff.
Support in Northern Ireland for a united Ireland is going in the wrong direction for you, it is going downwards. The share of the vote held by the nationalist parties is also going downwards.
predictably given you party allegiance your understanding of democracy needs work 😝
More fantasy...sure why not.
So point out there Mike what is undemocratic?
Poll of polls. Trend looks upward to my eyes.
Surely the starting point for UI will be a new flag, anthem and constitution? It's not like ROI will be invading the North.
Any poll in the south that doesn't reflect that isn't reflecting reality (and ultimately means a UI won't happen or is way in the future).
How would a majority in NI ever vote for adopting the identity of another country lock stock and barrel?
this is more exclusionary partitionism, you want to believe support is dropping but it's ultimately not.
in fact, it is increasing as if you vote for SF you are voting for a UI.
