Soho is closed Christmas eve which is why I'm asking
Is there any bars in cork that are similar to Soho? I'll be on my own in the city on Friday and I like Soho because it's a nice place to go in chill out with the newspaper and also get a few pints and some grub. Struggling to find somewhere that isn't a strict pub or restaurant setting
i only drink Coors Light - had em in two diff bars last week - there was a vast difference in the quality from one bar to the other
Its just different types of beer. Some taste like piss some don't.They arent watered down.
Shall we just chalk this down to incorrect terminology and leave it at that guys?😅
so then why are some pints of Coors light I get so watery and others are not?
and no - not drinking in illegal shebeens!
I don't believe I have ever been served a watered down pint. I, politely, suggest that you are talking nonsense,or are drinking in illegal sheebeens!
aer sure how would ya prove it.. but you know by the taste etc..
I you think someone is watering down their pints you should report them. That's pretty serious.
had pizza and beers in The Rising Sons last night - fantastic pizza - wow - the base was soo light etc and the sauce and ingredients wer divine.. I was astonished.. not had one before.. service was super and beers wer fab.. nice and crisp (not like some watered down pints you get around town)
If anyone works around kinsale road area and is looking for a nice hot takeaway lunch I really recommend going into CL meats. There's a lovely greek fella running the deli in there now. Real tasty hot comfort meals like beef stroganoff, chicken curry, spicy meatballs, the most delicious slow cooked pork neck with gravy and potatoes.
Went to try on Wednesday but they only open from 3.
Tried to book a table for that evening but they were booked out. They certainly seem to be getting a opening buzz. I hope it continues for them.
Haven't been but it always looks inviting when passing. Looked at their menu, too, and it's a worryingly standard tapas menu. I suspect that you could pay a hefty price for not very much food, if not careful.
While it may be great, in my experience, restaurants that follow "standard" tapas menus, tend to not do them terribly well.
Just looked at their menu, there.
It looks really nice and extremely good value for money if it's even half as nice as it sounds.
Will definitely try soon.
Went to Cafe Moody last week - lovely spot , great service and lovely Atmosphere ! Wine a bit pricey but that's the way these days ... !!
Has anyone tried Sonflour yet? Last week was their first.
Yes, it's pretty good. They do a savage prawn dish with garlic and chilli oil, comes with a garlic bread pizza to dunk in it. Plenty of heat. Pizzas are decent too.
anyone know what The Leaping Salmon is like as a place to eat?
Had lunch in Sea Church Ballycotton yesterday - fabulous in all regards, we can't wait to go back
The Anglers
The castle hotel in Blarney does nice food with a good outdoor space.
Any suggestions for places on the outskirts of the city with a good “outdoor” area? Protected from the weather, covered maybe heaters?
That does breakfast/brunch.
Quay Co-op finally reopening the upstairs restaurant (booking only), but what has happened their pricing... €15 for dahl and rice??

Had dinner recently enough in Goldies and it was the nicest dinner I've had out in Cork.
Had their own beer and stout in there, which was quite nice too. Would recommend.
Is there any restaurants in the city doing lunch deals now other than Luigi's and Thompson's?
Went to The Barn last week and really enjoyed it, dessert menu is great!
29th November according to Instagram. Haven’t heard of it until now!
Is Sonflour open yet? (Castle Street; Italian/Vegetarian). Would like to try it!

I agree, still a great burger would be straight out of the kitchen nightmare playbook ;)
^^
Menu is hardly inspired, though.
Burgers, pizza, fish and chips and pasta ☹️
Some of you might remember the Barn restaurant in Mayfield-Glanmire. Straight out of the 80s, thick dark red curtains with lights and a selection of food your grandma would like, if they had it actually available.
Seems like during the lockdown Gordon Ramsey visited. They reopened recently and it is a completely different restaurant now. We went for brunch on Saturday, place was packed. All went well, great food and the interiors have been brought into this century.
