What would you buy instead?
Went along to a Dyno day organised by the Golf R / TSi owners group Saturday at carsportpoint in Rathcoole. Car performed pretty well making 309bhp and 421 NM (310 ft/lb) (stock is 296bhp/380nm). With stock ECU calibration and a plug and play JB1 tuning box that I bought off a friend for €100 on the default setting and a half bottle of NF Octane Booster, I'm happy out with those numbers.
Engine is still good and healthy. Also the Dyno was converting transmission losses (whp to bhp) by a factor of 10% where most others use 15 or even up to 17%, The car made 280whp so it's possible it will make 320-325bhp on another dyno. Most of the stage one cars made between 310-340bhp with 340 being the highest stage 1 car.
A good morning all things considered, good to catch up with some like minded folk.
Another TCR gone up for sale, mental money: 49.4k
They're a gorgeous car, but feck me... 50k! A new MK8 CS is only another 5K but they will say you'll be waiting 6 months for one. Shame about the leather interior too. What was the original owner thinking FFS. The standard cloth/alcantara is far nicer.
And you'd have to deal with "Daniel in Joe Duffy VW". I can smell the Lynx Africa off his video...
Scratch that “only 5k more for a new CS”.
VW have released the prices for January. My car (with my spec) would retail at a whopping 63.5k from January. That’s at least 6k more than it was in July.
€55,130 for the GTI DSG OTR before any options. €57,317 with camera, winter park, wheels and paint. Ouch.
Ridiculous! There will be even less of these cars on the road now.
I got the detail done during the week - very happy with the results. The car looks great without the plates :)
I guess this explains the email I got from my dealer a few days ago. Basically said your build has been pushed back to q1 and you can have your deposit back now if you like, please confirm..
My last update was a build of Feb so q1 anyway. There is no way I am paying that increase. I will pay what was agreed with the added vrt increase that has come in. This is exactly what they said I would need to do if it went into the new year and vrt went up.
whole thing has been a shambles tbh.
It sounds like they don't want to sell you the car and would be as well pleased if you walked. I mean you already knew it was going to be "Q1" so their message isn't an update at all. I'm guessing they don't want to have to tell you its going to cost you an additional €5k.
Are the prices going up solely due to vrt or are Volkswagen increasing them at the same time?
70k for an R now with zero options!
I think it is solely VRT but VW did increase the prices by approx €1k from the beginning of October.
Just looked back on previous prices for the CS over the last 12 months...
January 2021: €52,590
March 2021 (VAT goes back up): €53,440
July 2021 (VW price increase): €54,080
October 2021 (VW price increase): €54,895
January 2022 (VRT hike): €58,800
So, overall, its a €6,210 increase in 12 months, a combination of increasing taxes and price hikes.
Note, optional extras have also have gone up with the VRT/VAT increases.
That's some eye opener. They weren't exactly cheap at €52,590 but they seem like a relative bargain now. Lucky you got in when you did Joe.
Couple those increases along with the removal of 0% finance and the seemingly even worse lead times situation, I wouldn't be ordering one today.
My 128ti has seen a similar price increase since I bought in July. Madness.
And then at a minimum you still need to add the 19" wheels, metallic paint, winter pack and reversing camera.
Crazy price
Wait whatever about the rest do you really not even get Metallic paint as standard on a 70k car!!!
No. Afaik white is “free” on the R. They actually charge a few hundred for white on other models. Metallic is over €1k extra.
That's dire!!!
It is, but metallic is usually extra cost on most cars.
I don't see values for MK7/7.5s coming down for a while.
With the way things are at the moment, if any of you were to place an order now where would you go? Any consideration for the GTE now that they're all the same APR and it's 245hp?
Aside from the 128ti I'm not up to date on anything aside from the VAG hybrids and EVs.
My PCP is finishing in a few months time for my 191 Mk 7.5 GTI PP... I can't see myself changing. There's the price increases, supply change issues and the general lack of nice petrol cars around
I think I'd go full EV before I'd consider the likes of the GTE tbh.
How are you finding the 128ti?
It’s a fantastic car. The performance is enough for me and very usable, interior is lovely. Feels like a really well put together car. Im glad I went for something quick as I fully expect it to be my last petrol car. Next time out I’ll be going for an EV but that’s a while away yet.
That’s exactly how I’m reading it. Am I right in saying their price was locked in when they made the order?
With these sort of prices we really are being pushed down the ev route. If it doesn’t go through I’m not sure I’ll bother ordering something else right now since it will just be another huge wait.
No, VW only invoice the dealer for the car once it’s delivered. Someone is on the hook for the 5-6k and I doubt your dealer is going to absorb that kind of hit.
Lovely😃
I may as well just hold on to see what happens as I’m in no rush to get the deposit back. Can’t see it happening now though. I was expecting around a 3k increase with vrt.
