Enough to afford more than half net salary on a room in a houseshare....
A solicitor taking home less than 2 grand a month in Dublin after a sixty hour week is a mug.
No.
They did the same on other things too; abortion, marriage equality, water charges. When it became apparent how the Irish people thought on these issues SF followed. They were never big supporters of Marriage equality or repeal the 8th until they saw they would win. They didnt really come out against water charges until they lost the Dublin West Bye Election
I think you might have missed decades of attempts to sort out the health service going back decades. The only thing that 'worked' (temporarily) was when FF, in true FF style, threw taxpayers' money at the problem, sending folks abroad for treatment privatel etc. etc.
Slaintecare, backed by all parties, has a chance. But the enemy is here is not the politicians, it is the health workers (which I realise is not a popular thing to say). And when SF fail to fix things, it will not be their fault either. Unless there is a completely unified front, we will never be able to tackle the vested interests in the health system.
And yes, we have another similar issue in the legal system - they are absolutely robbing the country blind. Even the IMF gave up on trying to fix that.
The decades of FF and FG not resolving the problem? No, I haven't missed that.
Amend LPT???????
SF want to abolish LPT. Only in Ireland do you get "socialist" parties opposed to wealth tax like property tax.
So can you please give evidence of Fine Gael 'celebrating' the murders/murderers of members of the Garda Siochana?
Trying to and failing.
Did you read the rest of the post at all?
Im fine with that actually when I get better public services.
Plenty to criticize FF and FG about especially the latter the last while .
This dail we’ve seen Two Sinn Fein TDs who have been using taxpayer-funded, pre-paid Oireachtas envelopes to raise money for their party...
One who attempted to circumvent planning applications for work done on his home...
one who received a three-year drink-driving ban and was fined €500 in December 2014 following an incident on 9 June 2013. Subsequent tests showed that He was over three times above the permitted blood-alcohol level. after his conviction, "as a SF public representative I regret my actions and my choice to drive after drink."
^^^the same TD pleaded guilty before Midleton district court in May 2018 to being drunk and to engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour to a Garda in the course of his duty. His guilty plea was related to an incident which occurred at His home in August 2017 following a noise complaint. Responding officers were told to "**** off" by The TD who has stated that he was under the influence of alcohol and deeply regrets his behavior.
I could go on, I really could.. Sinn Fein ? No way...no respect for law and order, no respect for democracy and no respect for the people of this country they are in it for themselves
The devil is in the detail, especially when Paschal is involved. They have already watered it down from 7% to 3%, and that's before the exemptions/carveouts are announced.
"The Republic has one of the highest levels of vacancy in the world. According to a recent report by UK price comparison website money.co.uk, 9.1 per cent of the State’s housing stock, equating to 183,312 units, are classified as vacant. This is the 10th-highest rate in the world."
It took him & Noonan the guts of a decade to amend the LPT to bring properties built after 2013 within its scope..
It has already been presented on this thread.
Not interested in rehashing the 'good terrorists' the power swap are ok celebrating and the 'bad terrorists' they criticise because their fiefdom is politically threatened, debate. It's been done to death, and it won't figure in the next GE, it blew up in the power swap's face last time.
So did the rest of the post say they'd actually resolved any of the problems? No, it didn't. So the government (for decades) that have featured one or the other of FF and FG have tried, and failed to fix Law and Order, Health and Housing but you think they deserve more chances because, what, that they tried (and failed)?
So poor meek and timid FF and FG aren't as powerful as Nurses Unions, Landlords, Judges and Solicitors. Pretty feeble government they've been knocking out these past decades. Maybe next time though eh?
Edit: anyhoo, it's an interesting discussion but I'll step out now, appreciate you taking time to respond and wish you all the best.
No they celebrate the IRA that murdered District inspector Cecil Blake and his pregnant wife in Galway in 1921, heroes in the eyes of Fine Gael.
Can you please point to the post, because I cannot see it. I can see something about a plaque being unveiled to mark the murder of some Gardai - is that the post you are suggesting shows that Fine Gael celebrate the murder of Gardai? I honestly cannot find another post if you are saying that is not it.
Were they members of An Garda Siochana?
the scc does not prevent intimidation of witnesses or other gangland behavior.
realistically it was only set up for the threats of the past from the PIRA and other paramilitary groups which now no longer exist since the end of the troubles.
it's no longer required.
Read the comment I replied to and then read mine.
deadly serious.
witness intimidation is already a crime so the scc isn't required to deal with that.
it was always surplus to requirements and must be abolished and sinn fein need to go back to their old position on it.
Unfortunately there were children accidentally killed during the conflict as with every conflict including the war of independence.
Nonsense.
Sinn Féin were the most popular party among 18-64 year olds in 2020. It's only the pensioners that are keeping the other parties afloat.
The days of screaming "IRA" are gone.
Ah, gotcha. You are saying that you agree, they do not celebrate the murder of Gardai, but they do celebrate the pre-treaty IRA that won Irish independence?
Not a controversial position, I guess.
I think a key difference here is that the War of Independence saw the pre-Treaty IRA attacking armed British army and security services. What you are proud of are terrorist attacks on unarmed children in British cities.
There is a difference.
We also have laws against burglary - I guess we don't have to have any locks on our doors?
RIC member.
Is there any merit to Irish juries in the 60's and 70's being overly lenient to IRA defendants, hence the need to remove them from the courts?
The ultimate hurlers on the ditch. If they get into power I expect them to be useless.
What amazes me is that FF and FG were given warning at the last election that SF were now a force. But SF are where they are on one issue - housing. That's all. More or less a protest vote really.
FF and FG have had the best part of two years (and counting) to do something about the one and only issue that gives SF broad support, and they have monumentally f**ked it up at every step of the way.
Where do you suggest they try dissident republicans?
you think thats a valid argument to vote some one into power ?
scary
Any of the other courts?
Where do they even find dissident republicans anymore and how are they distinct from any other terrorist group?
