Seems the EU would like the Late Late Toy Show to confine any references to the "holiday season" and most definitely not "Christmas". Do you consider this to be a good thing or a bad thing?

(Our own Peter Sutherland was also famously vocal about how EU nations should water down their national traditions. Peter, in his role as UN Migration rep, was always anxious to explain that the influx of cheap labour was primarily of benefit to EU communities, and most certainly not to enterprise. He was a true gent, ex-Chairman Goldman Sachs, and so there is absolutely no suggestion he was bought, paid for and lined-up as an Irish peasant for this role. It is blatantly obvious that, oh hang on,... LOL :-)

If a Jewish person said "happy Hanukkah" in the office, would we say "please use more inclusive language"? Or would we just be happy that they are celebrating their tradition?

Doesn't freedom of religion cover this? Can an employer really create a hostile environment for people that want to practice their religion in a way that does not affect their work? I.e. saying "Happy Christmas"?

Of course. No one cares about how the Christian majority feels. They don't even care about the eastern Christians that celebrate Christmas in January. Same with the Eastern Easter, no one cares, while hindu and muslim celebrations are widely recognized.

I am a devout atheist and yet Christmas, including the nativity scenes Christmas trees and Merry/Happy Christmas wishes don't offend me. I celebrate Christmas along with everyone and I gladly say and I gladly accept the traditional whishes because I value the spirit and the beauty of these celebrations more than my personal beliefs.

Odd how inclusive language seems to exclude terms and phrases that are associated with traditions. I know, from the 19th century of example of Prussian Kulturkampf, that down top interference to push a state's ideological narrative has a long history and so this seems to be one tradition the EU Elites are keeping.

I've met few, if any, people who get offended at being wished a "Happy Christmas".

But I've come across lots of people who seem to get terribly steamed up at the thought that someone, somewhere, is wishing someone else "Happy Holidays".

As so often, it's people who sneer at the supposed sensitivity of others who turn out to be the biggest snowflakes themselves.

There always seem to be people around who long to be offended personally or who insist on being offended on behalf of others, which is often the height of condescension. Personally, I find the notion of the holiday season very bland given that the big day in the middle of all of that is called Christmas Day anyway. Yes, it is a welcome break and even those who allegedly might be offended by being told to have a Happy Christmas get that it's just what many people say at this time of year. As a potential problem it's up there with a bad hair day.

I'm going to say happy Christmas as my means of being inclusive to everyone, I think they'll see it as my way of including them in a Christian festival that doesn't exclude anyone, I'm atheist and enjoy Christmas as a holiday and mid winter break so if someone says happy Christmas to me I take it for what it is, no need to be a little bitch and get offended over nothing

The most dangerous idea on this thread, IMO, is the notion that 'left wingers' somehow own love and 'right wingers' embody all that is bad in this world. Great for cheap likes, but ultimately, it's childish nonsense.

As I've got older, I've learnt that 'right wingers' just love differently to 'left wingers'. They still love though and, even if it has limited appeal to me personally, I can see that there is a place for conservativism in this world (order vs progress, apollo v dionysus and all that).

I don't think Jesus would have had much time for the over-enthusiastic adherents of either side, TBH. He would have seen through the naked power grab dressed up as virtue on both sides.

A draft memo for STAFF in the EU, not a draft of an EU directive or anything that would apply to all member states… and it’s been blown way, way out of proportion -

Helena Dalli, the EU's equality commissioner who put together the guide as part of an equality agenda championed by Ursula von der Leyen, claimed it was a 'draft document' that would be revised after 'a number of concerns were raised'.

'We are looking into these concerns with the view of addressing them in an updated version of the guidelines,' she added.

It is not the first time the EU has issued guidance to staff on 'inclusive' language.

apparently the non Christians and the wokes are oppressed by a friendly “merry Christmas” greeting, or the mention of Christmas rather than (** screeching American voice ***) “happy holidays” in an official EU document

But not by the commandeering of the tv schedules and the radio, all shops and businesses with Christmas imagery and decorations for almost 2 months. Definitely 6 weeks. I’d prefer 2 weeks myself

the logic of the scolding woke puritans should apply to Christmas as a whole, particularly for state owned media - if you want to be “inclusive” by stopping official EU documents mentioning Christmas, then the logic should support stopping all reference to Christmas on RTE, BBC and other state owned media.

Strange how that only seems to apply to Christmas. Nobody suggesting to do that for Hannukah or Ramadan.

Also looks like everything that is not woke is automatically right wing now. Wouldnt enter some peoples heads that some might actually just disagree with this.

But ever week we have days named after German, Norse and Roman gods from minority religions.

And most of the months are named after foreign gods but July and August are named after backstabbers involved in the slave trade.

And October, November, December are just wrong and highly offensive to mathematicians everywhere.
