This is the problem. This bribery within our own politics from Brussels is got to stop. Career bribes.
Minister McEntee knows that this move will guarantee her positive media coverage for years, it's a career move
We dont have dicks and balls in Europe dont you know. Here come the scientists and engineer's.
Put it another way: if you were designing a campaign, online or off, to garner sympathy for refugees, which would be a better "poster person" looking for sympathy and action to reunite their family? A woman and her child, or a single young man? If you picked single young man, you're either gobsmackingly naive, or lying to yourself to keep the narrative edifice you've built on secondhand plans intact in the face of the bloody obvious.
I’d say it depends on what exactly is being highlighted. It’s fair to say if you’re talking about a campaign to reunite families and all the rest of it - nothing tugs at the heart strings like a doe-eyed child looking straight into the camera.
However, if you’re looking to challenge the prevalent narrative of “fighting-age male economic immigrants” entering European countries and being accused of exacerbating and adding to existing social issues, you’d probably have your work cut out as the audiences just won’t be the same. People who are convinced that fighting age illegal economic male immigrants, or “pro-mass immigrantion” sorts are responsible for an increase in social ills, aren’t going to want to hear about the fighting-age illegal economic male immigrants hiding out in parks in Germany for example. This sort of thing, I first heard of it years ago, and I’ve linked to articles before, but here’s a more recent one from 2020 -
Do I imagine people will really care? Nope. You’re right that it would be naive of me to expect something like that would counter anecdotes of illegal immigrants immoral behaviour like using public toilets and streetlights and they’re not even paying taxes.
“They’re taking our women, jobs, houses… STREETLIGHTS”…
Bastards, using our streetlights and they’re not even paying for them 😡
You keep using terms like “public services” and “socialised healthcare”, and I’m not sure you understand what the terms mean. They are PUBLIC services, their use is not contingent upon anyones habitual residency status, required to avail of the kind of welfare benefits you’re referring to. Without documentation and supporting evidence, they’re not going to qualify for anything -
McEntee is being far too conservative here, she should allow every blessed undocumented saintly immigrant a free 2 story house in South Dublin, a million euro stipend and the right to spit on every young Irish tax-paying professional who can only dream of owning such a house before the age of 50.
Using the search engine that's tracking you of your choice go and look at pics of actual refugee crises in history, even recent ones and you'll tend to find the demographics overwhelmingly represented are women, children and old people. Women and children first as it were.
Not single so called fighting aged males. The women and kids are always in the vanguard and the men are trying to get the "small children in danger" out of same. I know this can come as a shock to the gender is a construct types, but that's what men did and still do when actual danger is facing their women and children and elderly. And no it's not the "usual way for refugees is that the men undertake the hard dangerous trek to get out, then they get help by international organisations to get their families out". Not even close when it comes to mass migrations escaping actual hardship. That's a much more recent thing and is an almost entirely economic migration trend. We saw this in America in the 19th century, and even then women and kids were overrepresented.
"Ireland has repeatedly urged the need for greater solidarity and burden-sharing among Member States in dealing with the issue of migration. We need to find more sustainable solutions involving consensus among Member States, based on a balance of solidarity and responsibility."
It certainly does when Merkle decided her decision was now a European problem.
Nothing to do with our immigration policies in this country
We have our immigration policies in this country, doesn't matter what any other EU leader did in their own country
And you really believe that? When Merkle opened her borders without consulting other leaders (and then expected everyone to share in her mistake, pity she wasn't the same on debt sharing in 2008!) She set in motion a tidal wave of every chancer who wanted to live in Europe...we're still living with the consequences of that decision and will be for many years to come...
It's human trafficking on an enormous scale

We don't have wide open borders
Firstly, not all refugees are fleeing from war. There are many reasons people are refugees.
Secondly, the usual way for refugees is that the men undertake the hard dangerous trek to get out, then they get help by international organisations to get their families out.
Do you think that putting small children in danger is a good idea??
McEntee had the cheek in her statement to say that because Irish people were illegal immigrants in the past, we have to open our doors to chancers. Muppet. Too woke to see the consequences of wide open borders.
zoom in....how many women and children do you see?
https://time.com/2894694/massimo-sestini-boat-italy-migrants-mare-nostrum-risk-europe/
I could go on and on here..
If they were running from war there would be a mix in that boat, nearly every single photo you see is like 95% young males, unless the western media are trying to stir up sympathy and post the odd bonus women and children amongst them...
So it's only females that can be refugees?
Because they ain't no refugees...illegal migrants,chancers
Also it's never a good idea letting thousands of young males with poor education, low skills and from vastly different cultures into your country.
What does it matter the sex of people in the boat? What does that have to.do with anything?
The good burghers of Sandymount couls stop this tomorrow.
There's no doubt the EU are pushing this, though the Irish government could have opted out, but we know they like to be the good boys in the class for Brussels
"Europe needs migrants to tackle its demographic decline,"
Also LOL at the photo of the migrant boat, can anyone spot even one woman or child? It's like weres Wally...
<deleted> Ignore
Well at least the government are trying to get some of those illegals into the system to pay their own way, officially! 😁
Do you have any thing that says illegal immigrants contribute less then legal immigrants here that contribute nothing? I doubt it.
I never said that. Second time I've pointed this out to you.
'So, yes I prefer people living here to look after themselves, and pay their own way. All people, Irish or otherwise, don't care where they are from or their background, so long as they want to live and work and contribute here.
I think that's reasonable. Don't you?'
I believe everyone should pay their fair share towards the welfare state that Ireland is, which illegal immigrants do not. And should pay fully towards the usage of public services the same as anyone here legally does, which illegal immigrants also do not. I believe people should be law abiding, which illegal immigrants are not.
Well unfortunately, the prsi I pay isn't worth a crap. Doesn't pay for feck all.
So, yes I prefer people living here to look after themselves, and pay their own way. All people, Irish or otherwise, don't care where they are from or their background, so long as they want to live and work and contribute here.
I think that's reasonable. Don't you?
What housing are they taking?
Where do you think they're living now?
This is the Irish government doing this. Nothing to do with the EU.
Yes street lighting. Laugh all you want. Those things need to be paid for. Your blase attitude towards taxation maybe explains your position.
https://www.pee.ie/ - knock yourself out.
They do not pay for the full cost. They are heavily subsidised by the state which they do not fully contribute tax towards. As such, they do not 'pay for it themselves' as you suggested.
'I pay all taxes I am liable for in this country. I get my teeth cleaned once a year, my eyes tested once very two years.'
Fair play to you. Not sure if the relevance.
'there are many many legal immigrants that don't work or pay a cent towards the running of this country. can you please point out how an illegal immigrant is contributing less then an immigrant who contributes minus amounts?'
A legal immigrant who doesn't work will pay the same in taxes as an illegal immigrant who does work.
And I never said they'd be contributing less than a legal immigrant contributing minus figures. I said both will be contributing minus figures. Maybe you should get the aul eyes tested more.
Lol, not paying for street lighting! 😂😂.
Point out any public toilets anywhere??????
If they are paying for public transport or their own tax and insurance on a vehicle, then they are paying their own way.
I pay all taxes I am liable for in this country. I get my teeth cleaned once a year, my eyes tested once very two years.
if an illegal immigrants needs medical care, if course they pay, how else do You think they get care?
there are many many legal immigrants that don't work or pay a cent towards the running of this country. can you please point out how an illegal immigrant is contributing less then an immigrant who contributes minus amounts?
They don't contribute the same to the running of the state to the same effect that a legal immigrant does, or a working Irish person.
'Why do you assume they don't pay for a doctor?'
You said ''If they need medical care, they pay it themselves because they don't have access to medical cards or HAP or any other state supports.'
This is not true. They will potentially be using public services such as public hospitals, ran by public servants, who are paid by the government through taxation, taxation that they will not be fully contributing their fair share of. As such, in contrary to your ridiculous notion that they'll be 'paying it themselves', the cost will be heavily subsidised by the Irish taxpayer.
They will be using public services such as roads, buses, trains, making use of street lighting, maybe using public toilets, and other public services that they will not be contributing towards as they should.
