I suspect most flat-earthers don't really believe the world is flat, but their love of indulging in it outweighs their principles/honesty on the matter

I'm not sure that they are being consciously aware of their deception. Similarly to faith in religion, they just accept the tale they are told and don't question it. But in most cases it's not deliberate.
Something too difficult to understand, because science can be complicated and often confusing or doesn't make obvious sense, so it's easier to belive some deity did it, or for conspiracy theorists that some shady unknown evil corporation did it. Equally impossible to prove the existence of either the deity or Evil Corp, but that is instead taken as proof of their existence in both cases.
Can't prove the deity, as that would mean you have insufficient faith in the deity. Can't prove the existence of Evil Corp as they are Evil Corp and control everything obviously.
I've noticed that the ones who openly claim there's a big conspiracy by Satan or whatever actually do go into "detail" on it, they make some sort of effort no matter how bizarre, these types genuinely seem to believe it all
It's the rest of them, those who actively dodge questions, engage in all sorts of shenanigans, techniques and tools to escape scrutiny - who are we kidding, of course they know they are lying. It's just that they are okay with doing that. As we've seen, it's like a "liars club" in here because they will happily validate other people's contradictory BS if those people validate theirs. I'd say it's pretty common with other vaccines. They are generally all more effective for the population as a whole based on the more people who take them. Nothing new regarding vaccine programs through history, and nothing new as far as covid vaccines are concerned either as it was well known from before they even had the vaccines developed back in the beginning of 2020 that when the vaccines were used it would need a high percentage of the population to have them in order for things to get under control... and that is exactly how things have panned out with higher and earlier vaccinated populations currently fairing better with the current wave of infections.

Mandating vaccines during a pandemic is the "same thing" as the treatment of Jews according to people who have utterly no grasp of reality and by some remarkable coincidence also happen to be anti-vaxxers.
During WW2 there was conscription, rationing, landmines and barbed wire on beaches, a blackout, a requirement to carry a gas mask at all times, the removal of city children from their homes. Those measures were in place for about six years (I believe rationing lasted a bit longer). All were gone shortly after they were no longer needed.
