"Thanks Cousin" is what he said to Claire Byrne, when she handed over at 12 Noon yesterday....
Not a great spot for banter no Marty or Des or petula so he is proberly looking forward to going back to the early show .
I noted when lillian stood in for Shay a few weeks back, she made a couple of token efforts at shay style banter, as if the contributors expected it of her, but quickly abandoned it when she realised it simply wasn't her. I bet a few of the lads on the morning shift view the current arrangement as a bit of a holiday for them. Honestly though, I don't really mind shay. You nearly get used to him.
last Monday week was Ronan's most recent show
Sick. He was sounding really rough when he was last on, Monday week.
Shay back on Monday, hope Ronan isn't too bad.
Charlie McGettigan what have you done?! that version of rock and roll kids with Robert Mizzelle (spelling?) is awful!
not as bad as "Ireland's Call" playing now. "cringe".
Missed that, I got the hump and switched to BBC 6!
According to Shay at the end of today's show Ronan will be back on the 29th
Good to see he's on the mend.
Hmmm…
Hmmmm, what Brender?
Whether you like him and his radio by numbers (just like Larry Gogan) or not, he's a long time on the go, and I'm pleased to hear he's getting better. At his age, and with everything that's going on, that is good news.
Of course, of course….. wish him well.
Apologies if I appeared to imply anything else….. not intended.
All good. He'll make the "roundy birthday" next October, yet!
Just another week of Shay and his hyperactive bonhomie.
Ronan will be nicely settled back in just in time for the daily O Holy Night.
Shay just said he'd play a particular song for a listener next week 'if I'm here', might be doubtful for Ronan?
Turned on the show to be in time for 1 o'clock news. Caught last singles of song by UB40.
....And the presenter praises a listener (in my words) to hang in there in the queue to get a GARTH BROOKS CONCERT ticket
fu<k off would ya with Garth Brooks.
Shay is one of those Dubs, who wishes he was born and raised in the midlands..
"Great to be back home again....home is where I want to be..."
Welcome back Ronan. That version of Fleetwood Mac is horrendous though!
Just 15 minutes in and let's be honest, it's easy heard just how poor the stand-in's are in relation to Ronan.
Totally. Didn't like the F Mac cover but it was charity song at least. It's like a comfort blanket in the day, don't realise how much you miss it until it's gone.
There are a load of alternative covers doing the rounds in the last few years, especially of 70s/80s hits.
What has caused this - is it young people with home studios and can record easily, easy access to the original songs due to You Tube, Streaming services etc (i.e.: you don't have to buy or reach for a Tape/CD/Vinyl to hear them and get to know them)?. Did it stem from the "guilty pleasure" phenomenon 10/15 years ago where acts like Hall and Oates, Kate Bush etc became more credible and "legendary"?
Great to have Ronan back.
Chuck Mangione!
Not sure but that was a proper studio recorded cover anyway. Definitely you tube makes it easier but does that cross over into the mainstream? I remember bands like Darts and Showaddywaddy recycling old doo wop hits in the 70s? Then the boybands came and started recycling the hits from the 70s and 80s. Rinse and repeat perhaps?
Children in Need releases a cover version single, which is generally a well loved hit with a celebrity/s and a mainstream singer or group. Nothing sinister or trend setting here :)
yeah cover versions have been done always.
but my point is that there is a considerable amount of them doing the rounds in the past few years, of 80s hits, the trend is in a totally different style than the original, featuring in TV Ads etc.
Nouvelle Vague have a lot to answer for with regards to the lazy, slowed down, hushed vocals' cover versions of 80's songs that are so prevalent now.
Jaysus!!
Yodeling! Welcome back Ronan 😊
