Lidl
Not sure if you have done the maths on this? A slab of surger cans is 60euro. Just seems odd to describe it as just "a bit better" when its a third of the price, unless you think the surgers are absolutely amazing and the others are undrinkable crap. (I know the surgers have a little more volume but both are designed to fill a pint glass)
I guess people have invested in the surger devices so will continue to pay over the odds now.
Say it's like battery acid. Imagine drinking something like that 😂
It depends if you think they're worth it or not. If you are happy with the average cans stick with them. If you prefer the others then keep enjoying the surger cans. It just depends if you value price over quality really 🤷♂️
Oh and I think he was being a tad sarcastic.
With the 538 slabs coming in at €1.55/l and the surgers at €4.48/l it’s a no brained really. I use the surger unit with the regular cans and the difference between them and the surgers is negligible so there’s no way I’d be paying almost 3 times the price for them. I’ll buy a pack of them every now and again but that’ll be it at that price
I was being sarcastic.
Obviously 24 cans for €20 is better value than 6 for €15.
I got the surger as gift for someone, I'm not a Guinness drinker myself so I was just wondering if there were deals to be had on the surger cans.
12 beers of Christmas back in Lidl from 2/12 for €19.99
Any offers on Moet and Chandon this year? I remember two for €50 in Tesco last year but was sold out every time I went in!
Usually Tesco have offers on it from around Stephen's Day until New Year's Eve .
thank you!
Dunnes have 20% off at the moment
Not only is 6 for €15 very expensive but it's bog standard keg Guinness, the same stuff in kegs that go to pubs and the like. The current deal of 24 cans for €20 for Draught Guinness is for Guinness made specifically for cans which also contain the widget, both of these differences must make production of these more expensive than the Nitrosurge cans. The Nitrosurge device is the clever bit that does all the work. The Nitrosurge cans are basically very small kegs of plain Guinness, yet they are currently selling for 3 times the price of the Draught Guinness cans. Guinness must be making a fortune on the Nitrosurge cans @ €2.50 apiece!
As I said, I'm not a Guinness drinker at all, I tasted it once many years ago and it wasn't for me. It's definitely a novelty but I don't mind paying the extra few quid for a present.
I'm assuming it won't work with regular guinness cans? Is there anything that can be done as a workaround or is the widget the issue?
I'm no expert but I assume that the widget in the Draught cans does the job that the Nitrosurger does but the widget version does a poorer job. The Nitrosurge cans are basically (from what I can tell) regular keg Guinness in a regular can with the widget omitted.......cheap as can be to produce.
To directly answer your questions, I don't think it will work as intended on Draught Guinness cans and I can't think of a workaround when using those cans with the Nitrosurger.
Someone else may well know better than me though.
Yes, there is work around.
Get a thumb tack, and very slowly stick it into the lid and let the gas out very slowly. This takes the widget out of action and away you go.
Never thought of that - I shall have to give that a go.......maybe I will be buying a few 24 packs of Draught, after all. Any idea how long it takes for the gas to be released using the thumb tack method?
Anyone know how long the Guinness trays at €20 are to last? Sorry if this has already been asked. Thanks
Less than a minute.
Will give you a nice creamy head using the nitro surger.
Possibly until Christmas Eve or thereabouts. SuperValu has tomorrow for it to expire but Tesco and Dunnes have no date.
And if you use a 500ml glass vs a full pint glass you can get the dome head also!
I use the widget cans with the surger. Just open the can very slowly so that the widget doesnt work. Put the surger on the can and pour. Little or no difference between the cans. imo
Have used it too on the O'Haras Nitro (Stout and Red) cans and can confirm it works the same, nice creamy head, start to finish.
Theres a big difference - about €1.67 a pop! 🍺💰️
Intresting question, with the apparent Champange shortage i'd be quiet surprised but we'll wait and see maybe Moet were better prepared in terms of reserves.
Good for you.
€45 in O'Briens for this week only
guinness have a gift box set in supervalu with a "can size guinness glass" suited to 500ml cans, so it is probably about 530ml. A 500ml glass is too small to fit a 500ml can. The 538ml is suited to a 568ml glass (I think it could do wtih a tiny bit more than 538ml) meaning the head is about 30ml.
Maybe it is a 500ml glass though and yet another mess up. And at €20 it is NOT a bargain! before anybody says it. It is interesting though that they are finally trying to get decent servings at home.
I'd say your spot on. I have an old Ikea 'pint' glass I use that was advertised at 50cl and it was suited to the 500ml cans. Just did a quick measure there and its actually tad over 500ml.
Thank you, Mumm and Moet was 35 euro on st Stephens day last year, right now i think TAITTINGER in O'Briens at 39 euro is a superior NV, all be it subjective to the individuals preference.
Really? "Champagne shortage". Whatever next ! 😁
