Another 10,000 posts down, so another new thread is demanded!

It does what it says on the tin: a place for you to recommend Netflix films and shows.

While chat is allowed and encouraged, not all discussions suit this thread! Often it's better to head over to the TV forum for in-depth chat about individual shows, or start a new thread in this very film forum if you think there's more to discuss about any given movie.

This is for Netflix recommendations only - if you'd like to recommend films from other streaming services, this thread will sort you out.

I think the last week in November is fine for watching Christmas stuff. I'm not sold on decorations being up just yet though.

I've been wanting to rewatch Last Christmas since it popped up on Netflix a few weeks ago, but it too feels like one that needs a Christmas tree present to enjoy fully

Robin Robin looks like a nice festive distraction, and reminds me that I really liked Klaus, so will likely rewatch that as well. Closer to the time, although I daren't trigger the Festive Holy Wars as to what is an acceptable starting date 😉

I agree I went and checked if klaus was still on Netflix as I plan to watch this Christmas. It’s hard to put a new twist of the Classic story of Santa Claus, but Klaus did it.

Klaus was definitely a surprise for me; if only for that absolutely gorgeous animation style alone. Every now and again you get a movie like that and it reminds you that; yeah. You can make good Christmas movies with a little effort - it's a shame mainstream US studios shovel out such rubbish each year.

I re-watched The Edge of Seventeen tonight. I forgot how great it is. I think it maybe got forgotten with Lady Bird and Booksmart coming out in the years after but personally I think it's the best of those films. Hailee Steinfeld is a really wonderful lead and Woody Harrelson and Kyra Sedgwick are great in supporting roles.

Just had a look as I've never heard of Pluto TV, looks like it's basically freeview but delivered online rather than via a set top box. Worth having a look at least, I'm in the UK and can stream stuff from it - I'd be a bit surprised if they bothered with strict enough geo IP restriction that users in Ireland wouldn't be able to use it.

Yeah, Paramount may have screwed up here; there has been much pushback about the change in arrangements. certainly moving from the biggest global streamer to a doubtlessly advert filled free service feels like a big downgrade. Mind you, the show has always been pretty poor so overall it's no great loss.

Gerwig’s Little Women is an improbably delightful watch for anyone who hasn’t seen it. Gerwig may not be a particularly flashy director, but this and Lady Bird are incredibly accomplished and lively films.

I really didn't like Lady Bird, I pretty much hated it, so I was really surprised by how much I loved Little Women. It really is a wonderful piece of film making.

Finished Arcane, what a gem. Loved it. Great animation style, music, story.

Spaced it out a little and had proper anticipation between episodes which I haven't had in a while.

Up there with the best things that Netflix have done.

That Castle for Christmas trailer autoplayed on netflix so I watched it and think it's safe to say that if you were interested in it but don't have the time to watch, the trailer seems to be a recap of the film. Not that it wasn't a predictable film anyway.

I watched the castle film last night and it's just plain awful. I said it before but Netflix seem to be very bad at making the bad Christmas films. You can see its got a budget and some reasonably recognisable names and I think that takes away some of the charm that the Hallmark or TrueMovies ones have where the cheapness is part of the charm.

Speaking of, there's a Hallmark version of the castle film and it's set in Ireland! Filmed in Claire/Limerick last year.
