N26 - Cloongullane Bridge [completed end of 2022]

Even though it's a relatively small scheme, it's the replacement of a lethal stretch of national primary road on the N26, and seeing as Phase II of the N26 is a long way away, it will be well received for the benefits it brings

This should get underway in 2017, funding allowing,

Some good news, as predicted earlier, for the N26 in the new allocations from TII.

€200k for ongoing design works on the Ballina bypass (N26 to N59 section)

€100k for design works on a new project to upgrade the Mount Falcon to Foxford road under the minor works scheme (great news but past experience suggests it could be the best part of a decade before any work actually starts!)

€2,600k to complete the Cloongullane Bridge realignment

€900k for pavement upgrades at the Callow lakes and Foxford

Another €900k for pavement upgrades on the N58, which will also be welcomed by locals in north Mayo as it's the main road between Ballina and Castlebar.

And €100k for design works on the controversial N58 bypass of Foxford which local councillors have already said they don't want!

Great to see this very badly needed scheme at full throttle. IIRC most narrow, dangerous and poorly aligned bridges like these on the National Primary network were replaced/bypassed back in the 1970s and 80s.

This scheme is therefore about 40 years overdue!

The bridge over the River Abbert near Abbeyknockmoy is another joke. I don't think much is going to happen with it this year based on TII allocations for 2022.

Last I heard it is supposed to open in July.

Mayo county council proposed byelaw to increase the speed limit on this section of the N26 to 100km/h.

Closing date for observations is July 20th. That lines up with the new road opening next month.
