One of my colleagues came back from maternity leave and asked re breastfeeding and was told by an EO oh we don't do that kind of thing around here and don't ask again.
Good that you had a positive experience, makes the job so much easier. It's good to hear both sides of the fence.
Under the Maternity Protection Act 2004 your colleague is/was entitled to 60 minutes time off or a reduction in work hours, *until the child reaches the age of 2, for breastfeeding That's disgraceful behaviour from the EO and your colleague has a good case if she wished to pursue it.
*edit
That is absolutely scandalous! It's ridiculous that there can be such variance in experience from place to place. I have previously assisted someone who was told the same thing but the issue was sorted pretty quickly once the relevant circular was attached
I will admit that when I initially queried it, while I met no resistance it was definitely mentioned that they had not had anyone in the division request it before. Now I make it my business to inform all new parents of the entitlement upon their return should they need to avail of it
I'm very sorry that you have had such a negative experience in your current station
For anyone who needs it I have attached the circular which outlines the provision for breastfeeding breaks up to age 2. It's part F I think
Thank you for that updated information!
Hi, anyone know what oom they are on for the Dublin panel?
It has been a week now and my vetting status is still on "submitted for processing" status. Is this pretty normal? Hopefully will change next week and be done by end of next week.
Is it your first time going through the vetting process?
Yeah, it is. It sounds like they haven't looked at it yet though.
It’ll be very slow moving 😕
Oh hopefully not. I thought 2-3 weeks was the usual timeframe.
It all depends how many places you’ve lived and if you have lived outside Ireland
If your doing extended vetting it can take up to 3 - 5 months. Regular vetting is about 10 days to 3 weeks max.
Mine was the same. A full week showing as "submitted for processing". Then the 2nd week began to see movement, and was done by day 13/14.
Also just a word of advice, have someone lined up as a character reference as you may need this before placement. Make sure it is someone reliable who will complete for you asap. Mine was held up nearly 10 days as a result of person I asked, through no fault of their own I may add. They were just very busy.
Hi All, currently going through the vetting stages for Dublin. In a little hole. I am currently 7 months pregnant and have not told them this bit of news, should I wait until placed or get onto PAS regarding this and see what they say? I honestly didn't think I'd be called forward this side of Christmas and wanted to be kept on this panel.
Haven't been placed yet, but being considered for a role. Havent even told my current employer I have been looking elsewhere as I didn't expect it to happen so quickly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
I would try not to worry, I can understand why you would but ultimately it should not be an issue as it would be discrimination on the grounds of pregnancy, hope that helps you rest easier.
Snap! I will have completed probation next week but am in an unbearable role. Am going to reapply, nothing to lose, and will seek a transfer after Christmas and see what happens. Good luck!
Will you ever give over..... I hear you love to complain anyway! Others where you are based don't think the same...
This is probably a stupid question but on the medical form under family history are they looking for names of family or medical conditions of family members?
Also I have a phone medical, does anyone know if there will be further medical exams or is it just this one?
Jaysus I’d say just the medical conditions, giving names would go against GDPR surely
Just got an email saying panel closing the 29th Nov. I was only interviewed two weeks ago placed on no. 11 of my area. Seems very unfair to interview people at this late stage when they knew they would be closing panel. I was an nervous wreck before interview now it seems was a waste of time 😭
Oh no, that’s very unfair getting peoples hopes up 😕😕
please read the msg again . panel is closing early next year . they are advising to apply for the new panel which has 29th nov as the closing date.
The closing date for applications to the new campaign is November 29th. They are only starting the process. The 2020 panel will run until they form the 2022 panel, early next year.
Thanks guys read again 😁 Hopefully im still in with a chance
Oh me nerves 😬 I was waiting for the email 🙈
Anyone know what oom they are on for Dublin?
Yes, they most certainly do!
Fine, but don't be painting eveyone with the same brush.
Easy work out who someone is when they quote their life on an public message board.....
I don't particularly care to be honest. What I have said it true and other people have had similar experiences to me.
