New make spirit, cask strengths and component parts of blends are all an interesting look behind the scenes of whiskey and its production. I got some samples from a well known distillery of about a dozen different finishes from the same base new make along with the new make to try alongside. It was a fascinating experience to see how that new make was affected by those different barrels.
Boann have had some decent sourced releases but the only way to try their own liquid without waiting three years is new make. Hopefully it'll give an indication what way they might be going.
I enjoy poitin and stronger abv whiskey anyway so I'll sip away at it nicely.
Thanks, had been sold out for a long time on their website
Picked up a bottle of Buffalo Trace and some 12 year old Armangac up North. Cost £40 for the two which will do nicely for a couple of cheap Christmas sippers.
Back up to 40 again
Anyone have any joy with the Jameson 21 ballot? It’s a hefty price tag. Especially considering RB21 is €110 less.
I have one coming and got notified that i have an option to get another if anyone wants that option, let me know.
Might take you up on this if it's still available??
pm me an email and ill forward it.
edit..and gone.
Was over in the UK this weekend. Knew anything I bought couldn't come back so went cheap in duty free but got lucky twice
Jameson Cold Brew - €16 in Dublin Duty Free. I was very skeptical but wanted to try it. It's really good! Very smooth, nice coffee flavour. So easy to drink, you'd guess it was less than 30%
Irishman Founders Reserve - €18.40. Again, very smooth. Not much going on flavourwise but still a very nice drinking whiskey.
At those prices I'd highly recommend both if you're travelling over to the UK and want a little drinker while you're there
Sent you a message there, thanks!
I got an email last Friday saying I was unsuccessful in the ballot.Got another email today telling me I was successful so I guess some people did not take up the option. €318 including delivery so my Xmas present to myself!
Mighty job, grabbed one there myself. Free shipping too! Mighty!
Perfect for cold winter nights. Very hard to get hold of it these days.
How would Three Swallows compare to Redbreast 12?
I have the Redbreast 12 alright but its nearly finished might get another bottle for Christmas. But i'm keen to try the three swallows
Three Swallows is 30s in Tesco at the moment, now is the best time to try it!
If you have anyone coming back through the UK, get them to check in the airport on that side, it was on sale the last few times I've come through.
Got a bottle there now cheers!
I came through Manchester this weekend. They didn't have Lagavulin 16, and said they were struggling to source it, but had the 10yr for £40
If you like Lagavulin you should treat yourself to the distillers edition. It varies a bit year to year, but the few I've had have all been amazing
I managed to get one for €30, but had to try three different Tescos, the first two had none left, and that was the first day of the offer, must be a big seller.
Me too, i got 2 the other day for €30. Tesco Clearwater had one on the shelf and 3 in the back. Was happy to get 2!!
How good is the bluespot compared to the redbreast cask strength? Apart from price is bluespot a better whiskey? I'm finding it hard to give 80 when its been sitting a lot less time in the barrell....
That’s a good price on the 10 as well, I wouldn’t hesitate if I saw it at that.
I’ve had a few of the Distiller’s edition, very pleasant for those who like a Sherry finish.
One there in Monkstown Farm for 30, i got the other one!
Blue spot is a lovely complex whiskey. Fruity with a bit of a kick from the abv and pot still spices. Well worth getting a bottle of it. I think there is a bit of whiskey older than 7 years old too. If you want to try some send me a PM and I'll post you a 30ml sample as a Christmas present.
The Redbreast 12 CS is probably the best Irish whiskey you can buy especially for the money asked. It's hard to beat!
The Boann new make spirit arrived this morning. Looking forward to trying it.
Your right, the Madeira component in Bluespot 20yrs. I was lucky enough try it on a charity tasting earlier this year. Also had RB12 CS and Bluspot on a blind tasting and surprisingly the bluespot came out on top - for me anyway but it was very close.
looking for a nice bottle for christmas.. should i buy blue spot or teeling 13 year old single grain?
I have tried neither so would appreciate your advice as i dont wanna buy a bottle i may not like. Its a shame bottle sharing or sampling isnt a bigger thing here.
What have you got to share?
