Stop calling him Trimby - puke
The NZ guy was good though.
2 decent rugby chats in the last few days. Common theme? Outside contributors and no Shane Horgan...
Agreed, I can't listen to him anymore. He's insufferable.
I thought yesterdays discussion lacked any real depth TBH. It was more of a high level we are great, keep grounded but very little detail on where we won it, why we won, what tactics were exhibited etc. I would have liked some more in-depth discussion.
Whereas I think this is what bores people. It's what they usually default to when "Shaggy" and "Trimbs" are on, and it's painful. It's a sport podcast, not an in-depth rugby podcast.
I think there is somewhere a happy medium. They have yet to find it.
I usually find the rugby chats an instant turnoff, but I found yesterday's alright. Don't get me wrong, I'd have rather listened to them talk about the football and when I heard "Trimby" I had to fight my instinct to immediately hit the off button.
I understand the criticism that it wasn't a very technical discussion, but, Jesus, I find nothing more painful than listening to a technical discussion of rugby. Maybe it's all legitimate, but it always sounds identical as corporate bollocksology talk to my ears - I can never shake the feeling that all concerned are talking absolute waffle. So much wire is spouted in a typical rugby conversation.
Just heard "trimby" and wondered if others would comment. Wasn't let down.
But definitely an improvement on the rugby chat, shaggy is just so boring. Christ, it's just reminds me of a monthly briefing at work with PowerPoint presentations and pie charts that no one gives a fúck about
I watch rugby as a casual spectator but I've little tactical knowledge of the sport so anytime there's an in depth discussion (which is what it always seems to be across radio or podcast) I instantly switch off. A more broader discussion is much more interesting
Also I find a lot of the rugby contributors quite dull. I find Brian O'Driscoll incredibly boring to listen to
I feel the same way about listeners sending in audio beds as Ken feels about children running on to the pitch looking for jerseys.
Rugby chat aside (not for me, Clive), it's been a great few days with the lads. Very funny interactions and bickering.
And the Stanley Victor Collymore audio bed is fantastic.
The issue I have with rugby contributors is the raft of them that all played together. O'Driscoll, Shane Horgan, Trimble, Gordon D'Arcy, Tommy Bowe, etc.
Some former players make good pundits (I like Bernard Jackman and Keith Wood), but when it's all from the same team and same era it gets a bit too pally pally for me.
Absolutely. You're spot on there, Trimby.
Cheers Brocks
Need to get G. Hook into the mix…. Ruffle a few feathers….
The boys don't like G Hook....not one jot.
They need a wild card for the rugby coverage…. Maybe get Aideen Gillian involved if available
Rob Kearney too, probably the most boring of the lot! Wonder what someone like Trevor Brennan would be like?
Wow. Not sure what to do with this. I'd feel sorry for you but I'm sure you don't want my pity.
Anyone know how I can access the podcasts from pre-2017?
The first episode that shows up on Podcast Addict is 763 in 2017 but I can't go back any further, same on the Patreon app.
Any ideas?
Soundcloud maybe? Pre 2017 was probably the Irish Times podcasts.
Ah yes, was it 2017 when they set up the world service?
I'd imagine so.
Seriously curious as to why you're looking for sports podcast episodes from over 4 years ago!?
Tomorrow's football podcast will be an eventful episode anyway!
Ken will talk about ole for 50 minutes and then have someone on for 20 mins to talk about ole. Thankfully the free episode on Monday is always the worse one.
A part of me feels Ole-d out.
The writing was on the wall for ages and once they lost 5-0 to Liverpool anyone with a brain in their head knew it was all over, whether it happened that week or the next he was eventually getting the sack. And all the speculation and the chat... Ole was getting sacked it was as clear as day, there was a lot of talk given over to something whether something inevitable was going to happen.
Clearly it's the most significant story of the weekend but I hope they don't focus too much on Ole once again, as you said it's been covered extensively already. Prefer if the focus was on the incompetence of the hierarchy and what a new manager could actually achieve with the current squad.
I just listened back to the WC 2018 pods and they were absolutely brilliant. I was looking for the Euros 2016 episodes to see if they were as good!
Ken on holidays FFS.
Just cancelled my subscription.
