Okay, it's a concept car, but unlike most concepts with far out looks and strange ideas, this looks ready to go in the showroom. It was just shown at the Tokyo Motor Show. Sadly there's next to nothing in the way of specs yet. Just that it's designed for twin motors to enable all-wheel drive. And a 12.3 inch screen on a system containing just a single physical knob.

They say it has ProPilot 2, allowing features like changing lanes and navigating exits itself. It's a little shorter and wider than X-Trail. Nissan R&D boss told Top Gear that the secrecy around the drivetrain is because there may be a technological breakthrough on the horizon.

Order books open in the UK. Delivery summer 2022. Starting at just under £42k and rising to £58k for the top of the line model.

Straight currency exchange would see that at €48k to €68k here.

The Ariya might be quality, but there's no shortage of that about. And you can buy it now.

From what I read this Ariya is a quality product. From construction to tech. The materials are supposed to be first class. This all costs money.

The Norwegian site is stating Summer 2022 for deliveries.

For me the Ariya was the pick of the new bunch, I do worry about a 2020 car arriving in 2022 though. My PCP is due up in 2023, was hoping to see the Ariya out in the wild for a couple of years before making my choice concrete.

Price on the top end model in Norway translates to €58,000, with the entry level one about €41,000. I know you can't directly compare due to differing tax regimes but it might provide a general ball park.

Quick edit: It always amazes me how Nissan conspire to get the least amount of range out of their batteries.

They are converting the factory to fully automated for the Ariya which probably explains the delay. Qualify should be excellent though.

Just came across this car today, shame it's not available for delivery until April 2022.

It feels like the closest dash to the Ioniq 5, but in a more typical SUV style.

The VW ID4 was nice enough to drive but getting used to the dash after driving an Ioniq 5 was always going to be difficult.

They were the fore runner for sure but never front runner in terms of efficiency, Leaf was/is poor efficiency versus newer lads

Yeah. For me it's probably the pick of the lot between the Ioniq 5, EV6 and this.

From an immediate first look the EV6 is better looking, but I just feel it'll date so quickly.

Still wonder how Nissan conspire to get less range from their batteries though. It's quite an achievement for a front runner in the field of EVs.

I see the Ariya is now being advertised for an April 22 release.

Very disappointing as it was originally advertised as end 2021.

I understand the chip shortage issue, but hopefully Nissan use the time to make sure there's no glitches with it like ID ranges

The second from top tier one with 20" wheels and light grey interior is coming in at €55k.

87kWh AWD. Kind of what I guessed for Ireland. Am very curious to see what it'll land on these shores for.

I'm kind of torn between this and the EV6. I have this feeling that the looks of the Ariya will grow on you, whereas the EV6 will date rapidly.

For sure. Will put down a deposit on awd long range in Aurora green with blue leather. May even go for the performance depending on price.

They are available in Japan to order ( limited spec model) for delivery end of year. Should be on sale here early next year.

Any more updates on this? I think at this stage it's up between this and the EV6 for me. I kind of like the Nissan interior better, especially in the lighter interior.

That's it. See what the 40k option looks like inside. Though the 58k for the id4 max and no fancier interior is probably just cause for a moan. Enyaq probably does better if you want fancy and didn't mind throwing money at a car.

The thing is Japan tends to not prosecute unless they are very sure of winning. That's why the conviction rate is so high (not just for corporate stuff). If there's much chance of not winning, they tend to drop the case. It's not a case of unfair trials, just a case of them being sure of winning if they decide to go to trial.
