Passed by earlier today seemed to have kias in ford showroom and signage down.. Have they relocated Ford or lost the franchise ?
Its funny cos ive heard "mechanucs" say this before and ive heard many more mechanucs day def no no. Im sure if i pressure washed my car engine and had a problem after say, and then i went to my garage and said it was grand till i power washed the engine, theyd laugh me out of the garage.
Also the lads that wer power washing the engine bay looked a little green behind the ears, so if anyone was gonna fk up it wud be them, i wud never in a million years allow any fully qualified mechanic power hose my engine bay, water under pressure finds its way into lots of little places and electrics tend not to like water sprayed under a couple of bar pressure sprayed at them.
Modern engines have plugs with seals fitted to keep water out, I've power washed so many engine bays at this stage and never encountered a problem. It's not as dangerous as its made out to be by people that don't know what they are talking about
:-) remind me not to leave my car with you!!! how'd you know none of the car engine bays you power washed never had problems?? did you ring the customers every week to see hows that engine bay i power washed??
Do you cover the alternator with plastic covering? do you cover the filters the ECU? The Air Filters??
Also if any hosing is perished or brittle you just cause more damage and you wont know a thing about issues till the customer drivers off and is on the road somewhere and one of those hoses comes off or fuel starts coming out of the low pressure side of the fuel tubing, best way to avoid any of those problems is don't do it.
Its ion the interest of the mechanic or the garage to power wash engines so the bay looks good and clean but that's only from a sales point of view. I have had very very many cars and am also a collector, enthusiast i would never let anyone power hose my engine bay.
seems beyond daft to me, with the amount of electrics and electronics under a bonnet, i know mine wouldnt survive a power wash, though it is an almost 20 year old renault that nearly needs a rain coat at this stage
Exactly imagine powerwashing the engine bay of a 20 year old french car, jeesus that wud kill it. if i knew someone power washed a car engine i was about to buy id walk away. The stress, pressure and heat car engine bays suffer is enough never mind blastin the life outta it
I thought Bmw would set higher standards for their dealers . They get terrible reviews online and their showroom had needed a repaint for years now . Bolands took over donohue BMW a few years but they seem to still be a decent dealer - bolands have not ruined that dealership
Do they own George Corbett's too?
It baffles me too. In Wexford they have Skoda, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Jaguar, Audi, Nissan, Kia, Hyundai, Ford, Renault, Dacia...and I'm not sure about VW, Opel, Citroen.
In Waterford, it's BMW, Audi, Volvo, Honda, Opel, now Ford, Renault, Dacia, Citroen, Hyundai,.....help me out here, I'm sure there are more....
Peugeot,Jaguar ,Land Rover ,Mini and Hertz car rental
I go to Conlons in Naas. Boland's a bit nearer but heard such bad reviews of them. Donohoe's better but didn't realize they're now part of Bolands.
That's near monopoly stuff. They also hold a big chunk of the Franchises in Carlow and Kilkenny too.
As said before the lack of used cars for buyers in the South east is there biggest fault , take their Hyundai franchise in Waterford you would expect with Hyundaias selling so well to find a decent used stock but no not in a Bolands dealership.
Compared them to Kearys in cork - a dealer group who everything they do they do well and they have the new and used markets sown up.
Whenever I'm in Waterford I always do see a lot of Michael Lyng Motor stickers on Hyundais and often thought "why would you bother going to Kilkenny to buy a Hyundai"? Makes sense now and he is an excellent dealership to be fair.
And presumably this too: https://tradesales.ie/ - located in the same building as Hertz, between H&H and Hyundai. I guess that's where a lot of their trade-ins go.
monoplisation of markets is facilitated and encouraged
Any sign of any working going on in the ex motor village premises ? It looks like they have moved into their sister garage Dungarvan nissan
Just a quick one on this topic is there anywhere that one could leave a review for ones dealings or experience dealing with a car garage?
Like a trip advisor type of page?
Facebook reviews? Google?
Is there actually grounds for complaining about one company / group of companies having a dominant position in the region, or would there need to be evidence that competition was inhibited?
yeah I'm not on facebook i'll google it, there should be something for car buyers to write reviews on the dealings they have with car dealers
no clue to be honest, but there bloody should be a way of doing so, theres clear monopolisation happening here, and im sure theres very little standing in the way of preventing it also
It would probably be easier to name the dealerships Bolands don’t have.
McConnells. Walshes Nissan for starters.
Google reviews would be your best bet
I think there is an authority that regulates competition, its the competition regulator ha ha, my brain duh, It was like that time Homer Simpson was describing a movie he saw, "It was about a bus that had to stick to a certain SPEED and if it didn't stick to that SPEED then the bus would explode, I think it was called The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down" ha ha ha ha
Anyway yeah I'm sure the competition regulator would be the one to contact.
Anyone hear any rumours of MG coming to Waterford? No dealership in the South East yet.
probably outsourced to a call center called inditec or something!
Not sure if you're being self-deprecating, facaetious or some other big word, but yes the CCPC are the people you're talking about. From what I've read, admittedly limited, they seem to help resolve specific complaints by consumers against businesses for service or product. Not sure how they address concerns around competition:
