Didn't the emergency brakes not kick-in. Don't know if i'd trust it to be fair - worked with me one when on ACC but don't think it would kick in when driving normally?
They'd hardly stop you quick enough doing 100km would they?
Apparently it doesn’t work as well at high speeds but in the thread he did say he got the red light warning and thinks the car braked but not fully obviously.
I wonder if the car is salvageable, the battery looks intact and the motor should be fine
Looks like the air conditioner bore the brunt of it
Maybe there's a UK version of Rich Rebuilds to do an ID.3 repair? I'd love to see how easy or difficult it is to rebuild one
Car definitely must have slowed. If he was doing 100km/h into a stationary vehicle there'd be a hell of a lot more damage then that.
Front assist can only stop the car in time to avoid a collision up to certain speeds.
From the owners manual for the ID.4 the maximum speed is 85km/h to avoid a stationary car under ideal conditions, presumably it's about the same for the ID.3
So at 100km/h you'd still crash, but hopefully the front assist will help slow you down enough to avoid any injuries
You can also override the auto braking by pressing the accelerator, which is a bit of a design flas IMO because the driver could panic and hit the wrong pedal.
As an aside, many, many years ago I did some advanced motor bike training, I had a K1100
one of the exercises was testing braking distances at different speeds.
We got set up on the Mullingar bypass at 06:00 one Sunday morning, dry road.
Instructor marked the stop line for expected stopping distance at 70 mph, x yards away from the first line we were to cross at 70 mph.
We all more or less stopped.
The next question was, if the stopping line was a truck across the road, and you cross the first line at 100mph, what speed will you hit the truck at?
.
the answer is 70 mph, which we proved on test, and that is already knowing what was coming up!
No way he hit at 65mph: half mv squared and all that
I had a general chit chat with an owner after we had received ours, as you do, and he informed me that it was actually his second one as the first was involved in an accident. He was impressed by the way the car handled the collision and the protection that it gave that he went right ahead and ordered the same car again.
If anyone wants to buy a slightly damaged 18" alloy wheel for an ID3, let me know. Might be some use as a spare I suppose.
Ordered a set of 4 for winter use, 2 arrived with terrible packaging with scuffs on them so I rejected.
The company have asked if I can dispose of the damaged ones to save them the bother of collecting.
Tempted to just keep the full set now as the 2 damaged ones aren't that bad but the replacement set are already on the way.
Might be! I’ll ask himself.
No probs. If I hadn't already ordered the new set I'd just keep all 4 current ones. But to send back the new ones I'd have to pay return shipping, plus I prefer the new set I think.
I can post up pics of the damage if you or anyone is interested. It's a Dezent TA black polished 18" wheel. Cost €165 each new.
I'll stick a link up in the EV parts buy and sell thread shortly.
*note it's the wheel only, no tyre.
Wait...does that mean he's crashed 2 ID.3's so far? Or did I misread that?
I think we've nailed down where the shortages are coming from
No, just the one crashed 😀
How long after production week does the VIN show up ?
Am I going mad or are they looking for more than the 1st retailed at brand new?
What is a 1st? I'm guessing as the name suggests it's one of the 1st to be released. Would that not be a bad thing as problems would be sorted with later iterations.
I use a wheelie bin. Filll it with water from a tap and wheel it to the car. Connect a short hose to the washer and the other end in the bin
From the spec it looks like the base 1st, not the 1st plus, so yeah it would be more than it originally retailed for
I assume it's a dealership car which wouldn't get the €5k grant, so I guess they're trying to recoup that
Still pretty cheeky though, it'll be interesting to see if anyone pays that
Off the top of my head my 1st was €33/34k and then I got €1,100 back and €600 public charge credit so there's quite a bit of difference between what I actually paid and what they're looking for.
I actually nearly had the side of my car swiped off yesterday when another ID3 was in the wrong lane on the roundabout and tried forcing thier way across.
Yeah something like that would work but I might as well drag the hose over the 50 feet as to do that 😀 It's not so much bringing the hose to the car but winding it back up again. But I should get a barrel anyway and connect it to the gutter down pipe. Could put it right where I wash the car.
The idea of the petrol washer is to eliminate the need for to bring out an extension lead and for more power, the pressure washers they sell in the like of Halfords here are a but weak. But no real alternative to petrol really if you don't want a power lead. Suppose I'll just end up with a Electric one lol.
Got part 1 of 2.3 update yesterday. Loads of triangles with various symbols come and go. Some i know, stop sign, road curve, . Any ideas?
Rarely bother with a power washer now. Got a hose reel on side of house which makes getting out/putting away the hose very simple and quick. Have a powerful direct water supply to outside tap beside unit. It's so convenient, makes washing the car less of a chore..
I have a 40 meter version of one of those which is 134 feet where was I getting 50 feet ? so yeah when fully extended to reach the car it's a pain getting it back in and it's direct to the Well Pump too so pretty powerful but obviously won't blast dirt off which I'd rather do than rubbing it into the car.
Will definitely check out a barrel. Though would be hard to keep it topped up in Summer probably.
The 30m is plenty for me, recoils itself more or less automatically, couldn't be easier. I find when the heavy dirt is off car, then is quick and easy to wash car with good mitts and shampoo. Or dare I say a very soft brush on some areas like the front with flies. I am not over fussy with my white car, but was a lot more careful with my previous metallic blue car. But I do use a good wax about 3 times a year.
I got all the enhanced road signs after the first part also. But they vanished again after the second part..
But they appear again when I cross the border. Strange..
It seems a bit ironic to me to buy an electric car and then go to great lengths to use a petrol washer on it. Most people do it the other way around 🤔🙂
Finally got the second part of my 2.3 update the other day. Not sure how much I’ll notice the improvements (or even what they are) but just glad to get it out of the way. Should hopefully make future upgrades easier. The only thing I have noticed is that the id light flashes blue occasionally on the drivers side and I’ve no idea why.
And also, every time I get in the car there’s a notification that Internet radio is not available. Presume that’s because I’ve no data plan, but is there any way to stop the notification appearing? When I dismiss it it just reappears the next day.
I also noticed that when I lift my ar$e off the seat, just after getting in, the car does not immediately shut off anymore. I assume that's since the update.
The Id. light flashing is warning you of an upcoming junction ahead. The internet radio notification is a "feature" that we can't do much about..
how much is a data plan for the car , apart from internet radio what else would it get you?
