Anyone know how the Greenway is progressing. Will it be done by June?
T.
Greenway will #MakeFenitGreatAgain #SouthWesterly
Just measured a 15Km loop route from Rock St to the Oyster Tavern and back via Cockelshell / Canal. Credit to @riddlinrussell for map.
Brilliant map ok. Only problem I have is that I'll need a motorised wheelchair by the time the south Kerry greenway is complete😥
Yeah it is, credit to @riddlinrussell for developing it.
That's a great map. The south Kerry greenway will be unbelievable once its completed
Great map here to understand greenway progress and outline of possibilities. Zoom in to see the potential for where cockleshell route could emerge at Spa.
The cockelshell road to spa greenway where could link in with the Tralee Fenit line .I am not familar with the lay of the land out there .Wasn't there some walking way open there not long ago as well.
I am wondering about the Listowel -Tralee line.A share of this line is taken over by bigger field now as the line fell into disrepair .Will this greenway cut trough the fields and farmyards like the old railway line or will the co. council be obliged to work with farmers to facilitate the route with different bounderies
Probably land needs purchasing, yes but planning has been granted and funding secured. Hopefully, they would just crack on with this after tralee/fenit has opened, and would be nice to see this new section open by the start of 2023.
Wouldn't put any money on it. Very slow progress. Also councillors have approved new Greenway from Cockleshell road to the Spa. Wonder will that go ahead soon or does land have to be purchased where you walk thru' the fields.
You and me both, Several date slips on this project. Just looking forward to seeing it actually done. Any bets on June being the last promised date? :)
I thought it was supposed to be completed in March?
Greenway is now expected to open in June.
Why do they need another 2.5 million for tralee fenit?
Great News
Leave to appeal to the Supreme Court has been sought. It's far from a given that the Supreme Court will grant leave to appeal as the bar that has to be reached is pretty high. I expect we'll find out one way or the other within a couple of months.
That wouldn't matter to them.
Do they allow sulkies on the greenway?
And then we'd have the residents of rathkeale having their summer holidays in fenit. 😉
Heard Tralee-Listowel mentioned the other night on Nationwide. Going on how slow the Tralee - Fenit greenway is progressine, it will be another 10 years before the Tralee - Listowel link will be done. Wasn't aware that it was even at the plannong stage. Would be fantastic to have a greenway frem Fenit to Rathkeale.
You're correct, the South Kerry Greenway will drag on forever.
Tralee -Fenit and Listowel linkup to existing Limerick Greenway will have the market to themselves, with the South Kerry version now heading for the Supreme Court.
There is somewhere to eat in Fenit, you can eat in the West End Bar (down towards the pier) or there's a new place called Navo that does coffee and snacks, on the way towards the shop/pier etc on the right. I don't go to Fenit to eat or drink or go to shops. I go to get fresh air and for a walk or to the beach. it never bothers me what is there, as I'm sure it doesn't bother most people. If I want a coffee I usually just bring one with me from town or Navo now that is open.
A lot of people tend to stop off in the Tankard or the Oyster to get a drink or food on their way back.
I think we can just leave it now as it really doesn't matter!
Navo got a nice write up in the SBP lately - https://www.facebook.com/navocafe/photos/159366856380520
I never heard of navo or the west end. Wil check them out.
You're assuming gender. 😁
We're either being trolled or poor SouthWesterly needs to find a responsible adult to read posts for her. God help us 😂
Actually worth mentioning as well that Rustic Boowa bakery and Muerte BBQ (probably amongst others) regularly turn up at Navo and do some absolutely class food.
Cant remember but it was reasonable enough.
But of course you're ignoring the fact that I can't eat in fenit if I go there.
I get that kerry folk can be territorial but not seeing reality is just obtuseness
The west end is open year round for food and you can get coffee at Navo. I'm not sure how you're struggling with this.
And how much did it cost you?
I've had lunch there.I've even had a cup of coffee. More than I can say for fenit
Go have lunch at Sammy's, let us know how you get on.
I'd like somewhere to grab a coffee or have lunch. I can go to ballybunion, ballyheigue or inch and do that.
Fenit as a village has nothing that would make me go there.
There's even nicer beaches elsewhere
