Haven't tried the 5, but I got the 6 and really like it.
A good spicy sipper. very good value.
Both easy pleasant, worth trying. Roe & co is currently 25 @ tesco.
For a treat Green Spot is very good, for my taste better than the Yellow
Only drink a daily tot for imagined (hopefully real) health reasons - "The dose makes the poison"
The original Irish for me, would be anyway because of bias, but logically also as the typically smoke peated scotch as well as tasting like all things smoked - essentially of smoke! is likely not as healthy, scotch has been shown in studies to be higher in carcinogens.

For those who use Jameson as their go to, have you tried the Aldi Ardfallen? if so! what do you think and compare as a cheapish go to tot.
Alcohol is the most harmful substance in any whiskey.
I really think someone is only fooling themselves in maintaining that one whisky is more harmful than another. Any difference would be infinitesimal compared to the potential harm of the alcohol.
I had the Puca Pot Still there on Friday. For the price point its not bad, very spicy, but also quite a narrow mouthfeel and has a slight grappa-ish taste to it, that while not unpleasant at all, defintely made me think its not like other pot stilled whiskey i'm used to other than the spice. Interesting though all the same, maybe its quite young too?
According to actual scientific research studies done! science, not a thought! shows that smoked produce of all kinds have additional & increased carcinogenic substance risk compared to non smoked.
Smoked food and cancer - PubMed (nih.gov)
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in whiskies - The Lancet
And plenty of research suggests your thoughts on alcohol are based on the assumption of the abuse of alcohol.
Generally speaking!
Dose is the poison according to studies.
The effect of whisky and wine consumption on total phenol content and antioxidant capacity of plasma from healthy volunteers - PubMed (nih.gov)

They have additional risk alright but as taken from your second link above: "Compared with smoked and char-broiled food products which may contain several tenths of micrograms of BaP per kilogram, PAH concentrations in whiskies are low". The whiskies tested were in the ng/L range so very low relative risk.
Anyway back to the topic.
Just had my daily tot of this special, sipped in tiny amounts it is a pleasure of life.

Listening to a podcast drama about Orson Welles... couple of guys are betting on whose ice cube melts quickest into their Scotch.
Interesting. I bought a bottle of each type, so one pot still and one rum and stout cask.
Not expecting them to be amazing but they’re cheap as fook so perfect for daily’ing around Christmas.
The Roe and Co one isn't €25 surely? I thought it was around the €80 mark.
Normally €35 to €45. Saw it in tescos in the square for €25 this evening. There might be a cask strength release that's close to €80ish?
Ah, I was originally asking about the one the other poster was trying, which was a Japanese version.
25 euro Slane for the Sherry bomb fans in Tesco ( 2 or 3 in Celbridge ) Dont think there’s much better bang per buck for the fancier on a budget .
Sobering reading. The Ardfallen is West Cork distillery's own very new spirit .Id go for the Jameson over it and its my least favourite or certainly in my lower two of the Irish Holy Quadrilogy (Bush/Powers/Jamie/Paddy )West Cork had a lovely range of ex Bushmills (or Cooley?) products (Dha Chasca at 34 was darn good stuff )and they started putting up prices and using their own very young spirit .If it werent for their Aldi link Id say theyd be at risk of killing the goose that laid the golden egg .But sure all the irish companies are acting the maggot with their pricing now with 100 being the new 70 euro :-( My daily used be Teeling Single Malt at 45 but Its not worth 50-55 in my opinion so Im cutting off my nose to spite my face (or keeping the family finances on track) (Anyway i still havent forgiven them for ramping up their Brabazon from 70 to 100) by going for whatever is on special at 20 euro with the odd 30-35 treat .
I have 5 and it’s amazing……! Probably my favourite of all my whiskeys, I haven’t tried the 6, I think the port finish might be a bit sweet
Got a bottle of the Stout & Rum cask Puca - would've liked to try the pot still but none available in my local Aldi.
It's a very nice whiskey for the price point (€25) and it's refreshing that an inexpensive whiskey goes to bottle with a natural colour, not drowned in caramel.
Couple of minor quibbles - the stopper is too tight. I pushed it all the way back in after my first tot and had to lever it off with a knife for my second one. The shape of the bottle neck makes it almost impossible to pour without getting a dribble running down the bottle.
It has been that price in SuperValu for a few weeks now too.
Just delivered, nice bottle
Is the black barrel proof available in any off-licenses?
This is on tonight. Hopefully we will learn what samples were what soon after.
Hard to know, according to the website:
https://thewhiskeywash.com/whiskey-styles/irish-whiskey/jameson-introduces-black-barrel-proof-irish-whiskey/
"The limited-edition release of Jameson Black Barrel Proof will be available online at JamesonWhiskey.com and via select outlets in Ireland and at the Dublin Airport from early November at a suggested retail price of €60"
Depends on what they mean by "select outlets in Ireland", there are some places like the following that are selling it too:

I was looking at my whiskey shelf thinking I really dont need another bottle. I've gone back to college and I'm only working 2 nights a week and checked my banking app the day that got released and realised I really couldnt afford it.
So obviously I bought it anyway and it arrived today also. I've got to drive to an event later but will be trying it when I'm home.
If you try it this evening, I'd live to hear what you think of it.
Also, that's a bloody lovely looking collection you've got in the background there.
You might get to it before me, was thinking of keeping it until my birthday at the end of the month, so if you get round to tasting I'd love to hear what you think of it.
Cheers, the collection is coming along, thanks to some good recommendations on here, i'd post a pic of it but not sure if anyone's interested in seeing it really.
Post the pic. People are definitely interested in it. I love seeing all the different ways people have theirs laid out anyway as I'm a relative newbie to whiskey myself. I'm sure I'm not the only one who enjoys seeing others set ups
I’m a bit of a whiskey voyeur myself 😂
Has anyone tried any of the "Limerick" whiskeys? I'm a fan of Teelings small batch, Blackbush, Jameson and sometimes stretch to a Green and Yellow spot too 😉
I'm looking at the local distillers and considering a tipple. There's Thomondgate, which seems a bit pricey versus say a Yellow Spot, and the more reasonable Sailors Home and Foxes Bow.
Would love some feedback if anyone has tried either of the latter?
Mighty collection there you have.
Walsh Whiskey has been sold.
Back in stock.
Bought a bottle.
€60 plus €8 delivery.
Fuckin hate paying delivery but said screw it on this occasion.
