That traction control doesn't work like standard cars as it cuts power to the motor. I assumed it would work like on other cars as it usually would help gain traction.
Think I’ll be leaving the Id.3 at home those days! Our old merc was rear wheel drive and useless in ice/snow too.
Proper winter tyres make a massive difference but for all we'd need Winter Tyres here you'd be better off leaving the id.3 at home 😊

That said I had no need for a car there but I had winter tyres on my bicycle. -25C was my cutoff point for biking to work.

The big difference in Finland is that they know what how to deal with snow, they even clear the footpaths and cycle lanes, not just roads
Whereas in Ireland the whole country grinds to a halt as soon as we get 2 inches of snow
IOS hotspot must be enabled every time and if it detects nothing connected for a period of time it shuts off requiring it to be re-enabled again, very frustrating. Not sure with Android, haven't used hotspot on new Phone yet.
With Apple car play and Android Auto you shouldn't need to enable hotspot on your mobile unless maybe you're using the built in Internet Radio on the head unit but using tune in has more stations + you can use it off Car Play and Android Auto without having to enable hotspot.

And they have a huge fleet of machinery and serious manpower employed to do all the snow work. Wouldn’t make sense to have those resources here.

Yea, its a new feature in the 2.3 software (doesnt require HUD) that just brings your attention to a change in conditions up ahead (roundabout, speed change etc)

True enough, and since a lot of people are able to work from home now there's a big argument removed for trying to get people commuting on snowy days
Better to leave the roads clear to let the snow clearing work and only essential traffic needs to be on the road
I'm told that my car is in the country and will be ready for collection shortly. However, dealer has asked whether I'm interested in waiting until the new year to get a 221 reg with everything the same as what we agreed when I ordered the car.
I understand a 221 will have a higher resale/trade-in value than a 212 and that many people at this time of year are keen to put off the purchase. Is there any way to quantify the approximate value of having a 221 as opposed to a 212?
Depending on how long you keep the car, it could be as much as €4,000. The longer you keep it, the less impact it will have at resale time.
It sort of depends on how long you intend to keep the car. If you get a 221 reg and keep it 6 months longer, like you would on a PCP, then the savings are 0 because the car will be the same age when you sell it regardless
Otherwise, there's plenty of depreciation calculators online which should give you an idea. It's all estimates of course a since there's no ID.3s older than a year and there's a strong possibility that they'll hold their value well given strong demand for EVs in general
Personally, unless there's a massive jump in the spec or huge discount (both seem unlikely) the I'd go for the car that's in the country right now
I'd say the dealer reckons he can sell that car for more than you're paying and will have locked in another sale from you
I'd say it's the same car, the choice is to collect it now or wait until January. For the sake of six weeks, I think it would be mad to take it now.
An earlier post said once the car was in the country it had to be registered 212, according to the dealer. So surprised you have the option.

That was me, and they might have been talking nonsense. I was aksing in the context of selling my existing car since offically the insurance is void when I take possession of the new car
What I was told was that they can delay registering the car a bit, but not by much. What exactly defines a bit was left somewhat ambiguous, but I got the impression it could only be a week or two
It's worth mentioning that that's when the car arrives into the dealership. It could get "delayed" during transit from the port, I'm sure this kind of stuff gets arranged a lot around this time of year
Thanks all for the comments. To clarify: this will be on a PCP and it’s definitely the same car he’s offering to hold over (the VIN associated with me on MyVolkswagen). It’s a MY22.
I think I’ll wait until 2022. My thinking is that, if I get a new car in 3 years and roll over the PCP, that car will also be in the new year (2025) and the one after will as well. So it’s not just the one car.
Yep that dealer was talking bull***t. Cars can sit on a forecourt for a year or more(I doubt it at the minute the way things are but happened in the past) and when you buy it will be registered when someone buys it.
