Are pubs/restaurants asking for covid certs in Galway City?

I haven't been out in galway city since last year. Have people been asked for covid cert/ID/tickets etc. in most places and is it getting more/less strict?

Of course, the reason I ask is because MY safety should be everyone else's utmost concern... :P

I've been asked for the cert in every place I've availed of indoor dining / drinking.

The only time I haven't been asked for the cert is an establishment where I'm a regular, and have previously shown the cert. So they know I have it.

I've been asked in almost all places. Many just glance at something on your phone, some scan it and haven't found any yet that check ID to verify it's your cert.

Going to work is risky enough for me, I'm sticking to outdoor dining. But I've seen lots of places scanning people going indoors.

Interesting. I'm meeting with a gang of old colleagues and there will inevitably be some who don't have cert/ID/ticket etc. I wonder how the businesses handle this - seems like it would be awkward to turn one of a group away. Kinda reminds me of the the old days of the d*cky bouncer of the nightclubs/late bars.

Why wouldn't it be awkward? Have you ever been out with a group before? You see it all the time when one person is too drunk to get into a pub then the group is faced with awkward decisions - do we all leave and find somewhere else, do we stay and leave him on his own, do some stay and someone else bring him to another bar/home. Awkward as hell.

But I would like to know if people see it happening, I don't care what people think should be happening.

I’ve being asked to show a cert in Galway city at a coffee shop and restaurant. So yes I guess but sure you’ll go to whatever venue to find out. Galway has one than one restaurant and coffee shop.

Any half decent place will check.

As I said on the Covid thread, they'll likely have a shared PDF of someone else's digital cert and be good-to-go since nowhere is checking the ID.

I can see it fading away over time, I doubt businesses can afford keeping someone at the door checking all this in the long term. And especially if you have to get boosters etc. to keep the cert active. Of course, there'll be the odd prime time special then with someone with a hidden camera to stir up the pot again.

Asked everywhere i've eaten / drank indoors, with the exception of a 'local' where I had to produce it once and not since.

Lots of places asking for ID aswell as the cert.

No harm, only takes a few seconds and you're good to go.

I'm guess-timating I've been in 15 cafes/restaurants/bars and never once been asked for I.D. Maybe it's just city centre pubs at night that ask?

Only some. have been to two different McD's in the past few weeks and 1 is very strict and formal about it, the other didn't question anything, tables weren't being cleaned between customers etc. Both were quite times (late evening).

@Markus Antonius I’d say people aren’t vaccinated are well aware that places are checking certs and probably won’t bother going to the Christmas do. Otherwise I’d say they just eat outside or go to places they know don’t bother to check.

I was in a hotel bar recently and they checked if you were eating and had an area set aside for that but not if you were there for drinks or coffee, a different area of the bar.

Actually I did get checked for ID going to Freenys, they were very thorough. Just remembered (the later part of that night is hazy after a very dry year!).
