Yeah I think this seems most likely. Brave move opening new stores in the digital era, vinyl must be holding strong.
99% sure this is where it's going.
No signs externally yet, but the door was open and the interior is being fitted today.
There's a new To Let sign on the top of the building, so it may be a temporary / market test.
Its alright to say where, Biko isn't here anymore. You won't be met with a solicitors letter demanding to see signed contracts.
:-)
The former Dunnes, up in Supermacs Plaza, aka top bit of Eyre Square.
It's outselling CDs these days. Don't buy myself but it's nice to see something other than a coffee/phone shop going in there.
I'm sorry if this is off topic but what has happened to biko? i dont say much on the forum but i've been around a long time on here. sorry for dragging off topic
Left the site after the revamp.
Threw a tantrum after the site migration.
To be fair, he stuck it out for a few months, but the migration made such a balls of the moderation tools that a large portion of the mods have given up because its next to impossible to moderate now e.g. flag posts all go into a single list for the whole site and you have to search that list to see if there's anything from a board you moderate and so on
Now that this is a county forum as well I can post this here. Kiltormer Nursing Home is "ceasing operation". Work is underway to relocate their 23 residents.

2 toilets, 29 residents.
Shared bedrooms.
Ugh.
Apparently the dpds hub in Galway. It went bust
Can you expand on this?
Are we talking about Golden Discs going in there? I thought Nandos was going into that premises? I would do a search to see where it was posted here before but searching is impossible since the revamp.
Never saw Nandos mentioned and hopefully it never happens. Golden Discs is definitely going in there.
I agree, I wouldn't like to see Nandos in Eyre Square. Delighted to hear Golden Discs are opening there.
+100
Not sure what this post was trying to say but I saw a DPD van delivering in Salthill today.
Unless the OP saw their Depot closed up the hill near Kieran Farrell tyres off the Tuam Rd. They moved from there to Lydacan, Claregalway
Would love a Nandos but not in Eyre Square. Maybe if there is space, out in the new spot in Mervue would be a great spot for it.
A new cafe opened in Kinvara called Wild Beans.
Greens Pub and Connolly's have yet to re-open with Greens posting on FB that they may not re-open. The Merriman Hotel confirmed a few months ago that they won't re-open until 2022.
Has anyone been to the new coffee place in Bohermore, Scran?
The local Galway DPD depot (#31) went bust/bankrupt/out of business last Thursday. Their drivers got a text message that evening telling them not to come into work the following Friday morning. Its something like a franchise that each depot owner purchases or licences from DPD and then runs.
In this case John Daly bought the Galway franchise 3/4 years ago but was unable to make it work for whatever reasons. He had moved the depot from Ballybane out to his own premises in Lydican, think he ran a frozen foods business from there previously?
Anyways its gone bust, presume someone else will buy the franchise in time and run it. As far as i know it has been taken over by DPD Ireland and will be run from their main depot in Athlone for now. So the DPD vans you are seeing at the moment are from Athlone or being run out of their Athlone depot to cover the Galway region.
Source, The company i work for is one of DPD Irelands largest customers and was DPD Galways largest customer. We knew pretty much first thing Friday morning that they were out of business.
Yikes, so if you want to pick up a missed package from the depot you need to go to Athlone now? I thought all courier businesses were booming from the pandemic.
Not sure what you will need to do in that case. I know that they had trucks parked across the gates of the Galway depot Friday morning so there was nobody getting in or parcels getting out. I presume in time whatever parcels are in the depot will be released and delivered or made available for collection.
You are right, couriers are booming. I think this particualr depot/business had long standing issues though. They were in administration previously and only came out of that last year so things behind the scenes had obviously not been good for a while.
I have … I know the chef who runs it … had a lovely bit of food there last week … nice spot and good addition to the area just a pity not a little bigger
Anyone been in Golden Discs? What's it like?
Thanks for this information. I recall seeing the DPD Galway franchise for sale a while back. I guess nobody bought it. In my experience the Galway depot was not well run. The drivers didn't seem to give a damn about customer service. They would just leave parcels on the doorstep with a light tap on the front door and hop back into the van without even a backward glance to see if the customer heard their "knock". I imagine a lot of parcels went missing. The driver of the van I saw delivering at the weekend spent a while at the door waiting for the customer to answer so that would fit in with deliveries being made by DPD Ireland, seemingly a more professional outfit.
DPD have moved to Racecourse Technology Park, just after Brooks. Racking being set up this morning and vans being delivered.
Didn't open today, allegedly cos setting up stock took longer than expected. IMHO likely a publicity stunt.
Opening now expected tomorrow.
Do you know if it's under new ownership?
