BMW 520d low mileage

Hi all. Looking at a few cars this week. One of which is a 2020 520d with very low mileage - 5k miles. It’s a Covid car. Has been mainly sitting on a drive-way.

Is there anything in particular to be worried about when it comes to very low mileage. The dealer assured me that the DPF issues were sorted a few years ago, although I’m skeptical.

As you’d expect with such low mileage the car is in mint condition. Looks brand new.

Any advice is most welcome!

No need to fret about the DPF issues with the 5series from 2016 onwards, as you say that is 'practically' a new car. Now, assuming, its auto as opposed to manual I'd say 'go for it' .......... a beautiful car that's easy on the eye, has all the 'toys' & is IMO the smoothest ( & liveliest) car on the road in that bracket.

Obviously, I'm very very biased as I'm on my 3rd 5series over last 12years & can honestly say the only purchase I've had for any of them was a few headlight bulbs

Thanks for the advice. Took the time plunge with the BMW. Had a pretty good test drive of an A6 too. Both estates. No comparison for me. Night and day the difference. The A6 was ridiculously smooth and serious power too but very…boring. Also couldn’t live with the touchscreen controls. The BMW on the other hand 😍😍 taking delivery on Monday.

That's why I love boards, you pick up tit-bits like this to squirrel away in case needed. I'll be looking out for an estate next year or the year after so toying between BMW Audi Merc and Volvo so between your comment, and the OP's comment around "boring Audi" it will open my mind and increase my awareness a little when it comes to decision time.

I'm keeping my girl ( 2018) for another few yrs........ cause Mrs Mc Carthy 'treated' herself to a Peugeot 3008 in Feb ( a seriously nice car ....but pricey.....it was just over 40k).........so the "motoring" budget is well shot for 21& 22🤐

I’ve also had a Merc estate which I sold during Covid-fan of the German wagons here!

Don’t get me wrong with the Audi, what I found boring someone else could find relaxing. Personally I like to be a bit more engaged with my driving. Let’s see what fun the BMW brings.

Yeah I've had loads of 5 series and I've an A6 now. I'd say the 5 series were more engaging but in that class of car outside of the big petrol engines nothing is going to be sporty really, they're huge. I'd find it hard to choose between them, a good deal on a low mileage well specced A6 close to me swung it.

No regrets at all. It's a 2014 I've had since 2017. Next car I think will be a PHEV so I'd guess I'll be back in a 5 series, I can get 530e from 2017 or 2018 onwards, an a6 PHEV only from 2020. Be happy with either. Depends on price and whats available at the time I suppose

All G30 5 series are auto.

Good decision. The 5 series does feel a little bit more dated than the A6, but the touchscreens are a pain in the hole and the interiors are very creaky.
