Sounds interesting. Let us know your verdict on them!
I got a bottle of First Born (Great Northern Distillery) a few years back - worth a few quid and dying to try it, but I'm gonna keep it until the arrival of the first grandchild. Not quite the same but I like the idea!
Killowen rum and raisin batch 3 up on Irish malts for anyone interested
Well, that was the fastest tasting one ever done. Could have been over in 30 minutes if Luke hasn't stepped in.
Solid bourbons all round. More variance to bourbon flavours than I've had before.
The rye, double barrel and redbreast finish way ahead of the straight bourbon for me.
The redbreast finish a very interesting one, feels like a fight between the redbreast and bourbon notes to come through.
I'd be interested to hear what the Writers Tears and Roe & Co are like.
Puca stout and rum cask whiskey from Blackwater back in Aldi from next Thursday. At €25 it really is an automatic buy and, given the frequency of its appearance, I'm guessing it's a solid seller. Joined on this occasion though by what AFAIK is a new release - Puca single pot still @ €30. Maybe I missed it before but will definitely be picking up a bottle!
It's a brand new expression. I really like it, its got that typical Potstill spiciness but with fairly prominent caramel notes. Good value, imo.
A new pot still! Lovely!
I ordered some heavy hitters for the winter online: Ardbeg Uigedeal, Ardbeg Wee Beastie, Port Charlotte 10 and Bunnhabhain 12! Looking forward to sampling them all by the fire
Dont want to set up a thread to ask this...
Im watching the Liverpool game here on SuperSports, which I believe is a South African channel.
And mid game up pops an advertisement for Tullamore Dew.
They dont seem to do much promoting in Ireland, is it a big drink in SA for anyone there?
I know when I was in.. maybe Madrid(?) it was a common sight on the whiskey menus along with Chivas.
They must have a good market share in some countries abroad?.
Yeah, much bigger profile abroad - I remember seeing billboards outside pubs on the Continent advertising Irish Coffee with Tullamore Dew name checked.
Second biggest seller in the US after Jameson:

Market leader for Irish in Scandinavia I think.
Tesco purchased Tullamore Caribbean at 30 is pure liquid Werthers Original / Toffee and far nicer than standard Tullamore spirit which is pretty near bottom of my ranking of ‘basic Irish ‘ .I bought it out of curiosity / for a change .Sexton /Slane and Tesco Finest at 32/33/35 were all under consideration .If I were to choose again at those prices I might go with Sexton but if all three were same price I might go with Finest
I logged in just now to post a thread asking about this Puca SPS, it is new to me.
You are ahead of me, thanks.

What is meant by Blackwater? I presume it's a distillery on the Blackwater river? I will look it up.
I got Powers Three Swallows SPS last year for, I think, 24 euro, after using Tesco vouchers.
I know Redbreast and Green Spot are approx. 60.
So this seems great value.
Blackwater Distillery is a Gin and whisky distillery located in Cappoquin and Ballyduff, West Waterford. I am a co founder of the distillery. To date, we have not released our own whisky - just a range of gins and a vodka.
Since 2016, we have produced Boyle's Gin for Aldi. Subsequently, we have sourced and bottled poitín, rum and whiskey for Aldi. Puca is part of this. There was a Puca blended whiskey last year, and this year it is joined by Puca Single Pot Still. I hope this helps.
Purchased a Redbrest 15 at the weekend.
Seems smoother than the Redbrest 12 or is that my pocket trying to convince me !
Both beautiful.
Celtic Whiskey have launched a new sample service. Over 1200 different samples available from their bar in Kerry. 30ml samples like their tasting nights.

Velvet Cap is yours too, right?
Yes, also a sourced whiskey. Probably more expressions of that to come, too.
None of the Aldi's I checked today had the Single Pot which is a shame. The missus was on the lookout the Sloe gin too but no luck there either.
Could you try making your own sloe gin? I collected 2kg of sloes from one bush/tree in the laneway behind my house yesterday. 500g for a batch of sloe gin, and the rest will go into making 'wine'.
Very nice to see you being so upfront about sourcing the whiskey, I think the opaqueness of some other brands is a major gripe for people here
Your gin is really nice. We got married in Blackwater Castle so it's a regular anniversary present! Look forward to your own whiskey maturing and getting out there 🙂
This is on sale on the Jameson website today:
There's not a lot of either out there - if you see them grab them. The Sloe & Damson is really nice this year, I think.
Yeah, none in Aldi, Ballybofey either, plenty of regular Puca.
Anyone here taste anything from Connacht Whiskey yet? They're a local to me here so I wouldn't mind giving them a go now that they're producing their own whiskey
There's actually a batch fermenting(??) upstairs at the moment that she started 6 weeks ago. Had to use dried sloes though because there are no bushes around us.
The sold out signs are up :)
I checked Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the Sold Out sign was up, but this morning it was available and I bought a bottle, maybe try again tomorrow morning, I doubt it sold out that fast
Macerating or steeping, rather than fermenting.
Thanks, you learn something new every day.
