RTE's new 8 episode gangland drama with an all star cast.
AMC start date is September 9th I can't see a start date for RTE just a coming soon.
If there’s one thing you can say about Dublin gangs it’s they have a world class HR and employee welfare system in place and any one seeing homosexuality as a weakness would be immediately issued a warning eventually leading to dismissal, as a result, homophobic remarks are non existent,
You're missing the point. It's not about the name calling.
It's using his sexuality to show he's weak. You could have the exact same storyline having Frank straight, hooking up with women. He'd still be a weak man.
If they wanted a gay character they could have made Eric or Con gay and still not be afraid to get their hands dirty.
But instead the scriptwriters went with stereotypes, he's gay so therefore must be weak, more interested in his appearance, chasing the ride etc. The insults just write themselves as it's all stuff we've grown up hearing. Just very lazy writing.
I wonder are the Kinseleas using there residents tickets for the Portugal game
Thats probably why they are skint paying Tubirdy, Duffy, O Callaghan, Darcy and a few more as well obscene amounts of money.
Being stereo-typically manly is not portrayed as positive in the show though - look at the thick McGregor wannabe Viking.
Amanda might end up the most powerful character in it and as a woman she's goes against the macho vibes of the gangsters. Plenty of examples of same.
I'm just waiting on a transgender drug lord to fly in from Colombia and start taking the lot of em out.
Exactly, offended on behalf of others
I believe there's only one Traveller in AGS, and he only graduated this year.
As for black detectives, I think I saw one just yesterday, unless it was a regular guard in plain clothes.
Ah No,There have been travellers in AGS for a long time. Not a lot, but some.
Yeah, bound to be some black detectives, haven't met any myself, but bound to be.
You're right, I am mistaken. I was misremembering something I read this year.
The sneak peek for ep 8 is only 15 seconds on the RTE Twitter feed but I remember after the credits for ep 7 they showed a preview that was over a minute long, can't find it anywhere though
The 15 sec preview shows Amanda burning Eamons drugs and demanding a meeting with him. The longer clip showed, among other things, someone approaching a car with a revolver, Amanda seemingly taking charge and accusing Frank of wanting to run and hide and scenes of Viking in prison
stereotypes?
Eric - typical skanger? wannabe McGregor , like so many others.
Anna - typical teenager, moody, mono syllables , on the phone.
Posh school - typical blazers , posh kids with rich parents.
Gardai - sitting in cars eating, not very clever either.
Every show has stereotypes, if you choose to get upset at one , thats your problem.
Different people have different personality traits. Frank is a weak leader that happens to like men.
You see him as a gay/bi man that is weak.....
Clongowes Woods is the school that anthony was sent to. It is a school full of a-holes who think the world revolves around Irish rugby. And yes only rich families can sent their kids there.
Have seen all episodes and will stick with it for last episode but the acting is as wooden as my front door the script is ridiculous .Poor all over the shop the characters leave the viewer on the verge of nodding off .
Are RTE not making money from promoting corona morning noon and night ??
How is Frank related to Jimmy and Michael?
He's their uncle. Bren is their father, Frank's brother.
Because she knew her father would get in trouble for her being there if she went to the cops.
Bren should have been introduced as a character WAY earlier in the series. His personality and relationship with the rest of them adds so much to the narrative.
Finding myself hoping for a second series, just to see more of him
Not correct. It's filmed in Castleknock College. Also a fee paying school.
Oh right, thanks.
The Irish film, Handsome Devil was filmed there as well.
It's confirmed, just not officially.
I never said I was offended I said it was lazy scriptwriting going down stereotypes route.
Your post absolutely proves the point, out of a very tiny cast there's a high % of character development,or lack thereof, built on stereotypes. You can also throw in Nikkita as the gangsta mol.
Each stereotype on their own is grand but throwing them all into one very short programme is overkill and in my opinion lazy writing. Instead of being a gritty drama it becomes a caricature.
sorry , i misunderstood you then, as you were only mentioning the soft/gay Frank ....
Its just a hotch potch of shite right now.
Its says it all about the show that out of the 6 episodes, the best bit was a 5min cameo by one character that wasnt seen in the series until then !!!
But...there's a cop car parked outside on the street 24/7, so Anna had to run by the car to get to the house. So not only did Anna not run to the guards, the guards would have seen her running to Michael.
Yeah, but Gardai don't have a photo of every child who's guardians have a court order against. It would probably be a civil matter, rather than criminal, so nothing the Garda can do. It's also a tv show.
Being a tv show doesn't mean it can just be unrealistic.
Oh yeah, a girl who almost got shot because she was with her dad, is almost abducted and her first thought it is run past a garda car and into her dad who for all she knows, could be getting shot at by those 3 lads any second now.
And wouldn't the cops notice the abductors and give them chase?
My wife is keeping this going in our house even though she mostly sits on her phone while its on, I think its some sort of Irish nationalism or guilt at play.
I had my head in the phone for most of it last night as well but from what I did catch it was definitely the worst episode so far. Dialogue and storyline are just pure pants. Be shocked if it gets a second season.
Just admit you watched it all no need for the cover story 😀
