It was developer led plan, Decathlon had no formal plans for anything there. May have changed had permission been given. More likely they'd be positioned on the East of the city close to motorway etc.
Ya and they used Decathlon livery in the PHOTOMONTAGES in the planning submission.
They did.
I really, really hate this new forum software. I can't seem to search just this forum anymore. Anyhow, I digress.
Dunnes Knocknacarra (not Rahoon! I'll fight you!!) has recently opened a fresh sushi counter, Sheridan Cheesemonger counter, and looks set to open another speciality counter which has a large pizza oven. All these counters look like they will be staffed and run like little businesses within Dunnes. The Sheridans counter looks really complete with plenty of their non-cheese goodies as well.
I went a bit mad in my excitement and picked up loads of sushi for my lunch. This is nothing like the pre-pack options at M&S, Lidl, or Aldi. This will give the Japanese takeaways a run for their money. The rolls are a little non-traditional with lots of mayo and crunch options but they did have plain California and hosomaki. The sashimi was better than Wa Cafe (the tuna specifically). They had edamame, gyoza, and ebi too. Good prices for the quantity. Two fellas there making it fresh and adding new trays as they go. Wonderful addition. Itadakimass!
Ya it's the new Dunnes fresh market concept, already in Briarhill a couple of years. The separate health food store in it and sushi aren't in Briarhill.
I fight you back. 😂 You mean Dunnes Knocknacarra that is located in Rahoon.
The address the store uses. See it on the pallets in the store sometimes.
Dunnes Knocknacarra,
Galway West Busines Park,
Western Distributor Road, Rahoon,
Galway,
Sure check it here as well: https://www.dunnesstores.com/store-locator
I'd always say it's in Knocknacara but have no strong feeling so I won't fight anyone on it 😃
However I did some digging around to see and Harvey Norman and Boots both officially list their stores as being in Knocknacara. B & Q list it as Rahoon and Next list it as does not exist 🤷♂️
So there you go clear as mud
I wouldn't mind if those shops used Clybaun😂 Has it disappeared completely under the Knocknacarra moniker. Knocknacarra is spreading like knotweed- will soon be renaming the Cemetery next. Rahoon Knocknacarra Cemetry 🤣
Knocknatallaght
Rahoon boundary
Knocknacarra boundary
and for good measure, Clybaun
I'd trust OpenStreetMap as much as I trust Wikipedia. Years ago in a similar debate those links were used. Using the same website I was able to find other versions of the Knocknacarra boundary. Even just type in Kocknacarra into it and it drops a pin on the Clybaun hotel. Looks up planning applications on GCC map, whatever it might have been called in the past, shows up officially as Knocknacarra.
The boundary comes from OSI out-of-copyright maps which were traced into OSM
The marker is just a pin someone added to the map
Why not create a 'pedantic city and suburbs boundary' thread? The discussion might be better placed there. Poor auld Biko must be turning in his grave.
I thought what was considered to be Knocknacarra had actually drifted a bit since teh late 90s as development went up there and got labeled that when it might not have been prior to that. So is it considered passe now that it is assocaited with that era of development?

Hugmie, phones and consumer electronics, opening in the former Sweater shop in Corbett Court.
What is the name of the area that Shangort Rd is in?
Just what we need...
That or another empty unit. I know what I prefer.
And before that it was a sweater shop, clone of one in High Street.
Banks restaurant in Liosban has an opening soon sign on it
Shangort.
Quick question re New Look/ JD Sports in the Eyre Square Centre. Planning permission has been sent in for an expansion of the Penneys store to incorporate these units as an additional floor for the existing store. Are these units relocating or closing?

I see in the Advertiser that the little garage in Nuns Island, Killduffs is for sale as a development site. Another piece of old Galway business about to go.
NUIG will outbid everyone for that. They've been snapping up everything in Nuns Island for the last 15 years
Tax Assist accountants livery on shopfront St Francis Street opposite church
Magnetti's pizza was to open in Salthill today, seemed like a nice setup when I passed during the week. Looks to be the Pizza M crew that used to do the pizza counter within Joyce's.
Is Tomodachi sushi still open? Noticed it was closed the last few times I checked
Yes, they're still open. I've phoned and collected a takeaway a couple of times over the summer. They seem to have too much money that they never bothered with delivery.
Went in today (after going to the Dunnes beside McDonalds in error yesterday!) and was delish, good shout, thanks for posting
