I quite like that. I think they should have gone all in with the Pathé accent though.
Yeah, ESB ad/MC Samba is the winner at the moment. I have absolutley no clue what that kid is saying until he says his name.
Is the ad for the Deirdre O'Kane show on Newstalk meant to be funny?
If it's anything like her show probably not.
That woman seemingly having noisy sex with M&S.
The 'slurping' in the centre parks advert is disgusting, I neither want nor need to hear that. In fact the whole premise of the advert and her wistful voice really annoys me.
Its a well worn comedy trope at this stage. It was funny when done by Harry Enfield on his TV show but that Eireann Eireann ad isn't particularly standout. There was a point in the 90s when there was a spate of those "ironic posh" voiceovers, mainly on UK ads and TV promos.
They just use the same transcript from the same advert running on UK radio where terms like 'sorted' and 'bossing it' have more relevance to UK listeners than Irish ones.
Is that 'And Meadows and Byrne' woman?
You know what, it probably is.
You'd be hard pressed to find original comedy in advertising I'd say, but as a comedy trope it's usually used to lampoon old fashioned attitudes eg in Harry Enfield's sketches. So, I think it is not that common, if not novel to see it in advertising. I think the idea works here because traveling a long distance by rail can be seen as quaint and old fashioned, but they are highlighting the positive aspects of it instead in a humorous way. There seems to be two versions of it. One is better than the other in my (subjective) opinion.
"Dee and Marty" of Radio Nova fame must be making a killing on the voiceovers at the moment, they're on various ad's nearly every break on Newstalk and Radio 1..... I don't know whey their voices grate on me, the pacing or pronunciation or something is just odd!
The Bold Ad that butchers Spandau Ballet's Gold. Sick of it now.
Eurocycles diddley - eye sh!te.
Cash Machine on Newstalk.
They're all horrible.
Funnily enough I like the Irish rail ones!
Has anyone heard the ad with the guy leaving a voicemail for his work colleague thanking him for not coming to a get together? There's a version with a woman also. I thought it was an anti bullying thing - but no it's thanking people for not coming in to work when sick!
Just back from Center Parcs - save yourselves the bother and book a week in Spain/Portugal/France instead.
Yeah, the female one is hilarious. Think they got the tone a tad wrong! I thought she was leaving a sarcastic voice message thanking 'whoever' for not coming to the party and everyone had a wonderful time until the blah blah blah HSE bit at the end.
That's exactly what I thought!
Mwrgage. Nobody gets a mortgage anymore.
Full on Americanism... shopping center.
Hmmm...
Will there be any Bothar ads this year ?
Don't go there yet, don't go there yet 🐐
It sounds like a special kind of hell, trapped in a compound in rainy Longford with other peoples screaming crotch goblins. People actually pay for this experience.
The VW 'thick wan' and An Post ads have the same soundtrack.
Oh that Bold ad... I have to sing something else loudly until I can find the mute button 😫
just heard a mortgage ad which sounds like they couldn’t decide between singing or whistling so thought why not both.
The result is like two bad ads overlapping.
The advert for the new Jack Reacher (spelling?) book. I find it really connects with an Irish audience by playing English readers reactions....
I totally agree. It sickens me. Will put me off that place ( I won't name it) for life. What next, farting, sound of puking, someone taking a dump? The agency that produced that should be wound up. Get it off the radio please, now.
Homewares at Harvey Norman...
Jesus!
I have an idea of what they were 'trying' to do but it's dismal. The Grandparents arriving at the door Christmas day for dinner, the family all under one roof again etc. Think they're trying to strike some emotional chord but it's just dull.
please please please PLEASE make these Martin Gear ads stop..................Please..
Toyota ad - A "Noo" Toyota.. a "Noo" this, a "Noo" that...
