It's been more non Connacht posters criticising the comments in this thread than Connacht posters as far as I can see. I don't know much about the red kings guy but from what I have gathered, he has a newspaper column or writes for newspapers on occasion at least and he has a patreon or whatever he makes money from, largely by offering opinions on Munster on a public platform with an admitted bias towards Munster.
Every job has negatives, that job is going to come with criticism sometimes, especially when some of the opinions offered are rather outlandish eg. when Munster were apparently screwed by ref in Connacht game last season and now when he is trying to argue a blatantly offside call isn't offside.
If you put biased opinions out on a public platform, it is entirely predictable that people will disagree. The most bizarre thing about all this has been the overreaction by Munster supporters on here, if there wasn't this constant defence of the comments it would have been over by Monday.
Is there any way to read this article without subscribing?
That article isn't behind a paywall.
Strange it is showing as behind one for me, Ill try a different browser or something.
Good read from Thornley. Some interesting and alarming facts.
I remember that Ospreys game vividly, I've never been so pissed off watching rugby. It was outrageous.
That's strange alright, did you manage to access it from another browser?
Another poster kindly sent on to me the text from the article, since then I have managed to access it via my phone browser but the laptop is telling me to subscribe to read it.
I'd say you ran out of articles. You only get 4 or something free on the IT per week.
If you open the article incognito it tends to circumnavigate this
If the connacht website is anything to go by then blocks 122 to 127 and the north stand all seem to be sold out for the ulster game with maybe 50% of tickets in the east stand left
Not bad if it turns out to be true
So not necessarily bums on seats then? Ah
Still, if just 50% of them take up their allocation you could have a fine crowd
The side with 122 - 127 is also the side where the cameras will be, the cynic in me might suggest they want the supporters opposite the cameras.
It's not really cynical. It's just logical to have the fans where they can be seen.
It's not being cynical, it's a good business model. It's probably happening and there is nothing wrong with it in my opinion
Oh yeah it’s pretty standard to do that, I was half joking. I suspect this will not be much of a success. It seems to have annoyed some fans without looking like bringing in that much extra. Somebody the other day was saying they used the voucher to buy or go toward a family ticket so even extra bums on seats may not have all paid full price for a ticket.
be lucky if there's 5,000 at match on Saturday
It won’t be that low but it doesn’t sound like it will be far north of 10,000 which doesn’t sound like it will have been worthwhile
I think you are wrong, there are a lot of Connacht and Munster fans (let's not forget there's a few Ex-Munsters on the team) living in Dublin. Also a lot of people will be denied Ireland tickets today and might decide to buy tickets in the next few days just to see Landsdowne this year
Think it’s gonna be hard for us to keep a hold of carty after this year unfortunately, doesn’t seem to be getting a look in at all with Ireland
Agreed, was just discussing similar with a friend earlier. If the market picks up there could be a few others looking to get a better pay off aswell, Marmion was another one that came to mind.
Unless Carbery and Sexton both get injured... Which is a strong possibility if history has taught us anything
The next few months are going to be important recruitment wise
I think the reality is that most guys who have a starting spot at a province are very unlikely to leave Ireland. I'm not sure how many such players have actually upped sticks and left because they weren't getting international caps.
Should that happen, based on recent squad decisions AF will call up Billy Burns or Harry Byrne.
It's a tiring mantra, but Jack does need to show more consistency to overtake the other candidates. Obviously his time to execute will hinge on the Connacht pack, so his prospects are not solely a matter of individual performance. He left Carberry in the shade last weekend and has the chance to do the same with Burns on Saturday.
Where is he going to go? Caolin should be in line for further caps and is only twenty-seven, he won't want to leave the country. Leinster might be interested in him, but there would be ructions were that to happen.
Bealham is the one I worry about. He only signed a one year contract and is playing well in a very lucrative position. Hopefully the jockeying among the Leinster props opens up further opportunities for him on the Irish team, that would increase the chances of retaining him.
Murray is thirty-two and has been cruising on reputation, notwithstanding his Lions' selection. JGP benefits from the Leinster platform to show his wares but what aspects of his game are better? Casey? Hype, excitement, call it what you will, it's premature. Of the competition I would rate Doak highest, but it's early for him as well. And there'll be injuries. CB should stick around.
If Murray was cruising on reputation he wouldnt have been selected for the Lions and certainly not got 3 more test caps for them.
Would agree about JGP. Dont see Blade leaving but i wouldnt be so sure on rating Doak highest regardless of how well he's done so far. He's still barely played for Ulster.
Will be in France next season I feel. There was interest last year before he signed a 1 year extension. Ireland door probably shut for him now.
