I heard Paula Mac presenting the classic 9 @ 11 while I in Spar this morning , and I think it's bloody amazing that it's still going when you consider how much the station has changed the past few years.
And strangely, the man who’s most suited to that slot, Phil Cawley was on all afternoon.
I'm surprised that Phil still does Saturday fill-ins, now with his day job doing drive on South East radio , he'd be working 7 days.
Dempsey had Richard Osmond on a few days ago.
Dempsey nearly had to apologise for playing Osmonds brothers band, Suede, instead of Beyonce/Sheeran/Picture This at the end of the show.
I wonder do they feel a bit ashamed having to put out the playlist forced on them.
I'm sure older DJs like Ian Dempsey do, especially if they are genuinely into music. The younger ones are probably delighted they have access to a microphone.
They must be getting paid commission for playing that Becky Hill song. Must be every two hours at least.
Claire Beck seems to be Today FMs new super sub. She's filling in for Pamela Joyce 7pm to 10pm while the latter is in for Ian this week. And then this morning she was in at 5am for Paula McSweeney on early breakfast. So not counting off air prep time she comes off air 10pm comes back on air 7 hours later for a couple more hours and then back again 12 hours later (she did say at the end of early breakfast she'll be on again in the evening.) Hope the coffee is strong in Marconi house.
Have they stopped using Hector as cover for Dempsey ?
looks like they have stopped using male presenters, for any show that needs covering
Ed covered for Fergal.
And Cathal Funge covered for Ed.
And Phil Cawley covered a slot on Saturday. 😂
well that's that theory blown!
It would be great if Cathal Funge was given a regular show. His music selection tends to be interesting, harking back to his days with Phantom/TX FM.
Westlife being interviewed at the same time on 2FM and Today FM for 15 minutes this morning. Sounds like the Today FM one was the one prerecorded.
2FM one was. Doireann put on her story yesterday she was set up for the zoom call.
Paul McLoon featured on Arena on Radio1 last night discussing the new velvet underground documentary. It was great hearing him back on the airwaves. More please!
They would both have been pre-records.
Today FM seemingly contractually obligated to pay that Elton John remix every hour or two.
Yes. And from today, they'll be playing the new Adele single on every show, too. And then Bilie Eilish or Dermot Kennedy or the guy who says his name at the start of every song will have a new single, so they'll be on the Heavy Rotation list for their 6-week stint. This is how daytime radio works...
Maybe not on Lyric FM or RTÉ Gold.
It’s number one in the charts. Of course they will.
And no doubt Classic Hits will be playing the original Sacrifice song as often as they can get away with it.
Jaysus......
Caught around 30 minutes of Ed tonight and it was glorious. I've barely listened since the dopes moved his time slot
Bruno Mars and Rihanna must be living off the royalties from today fm playing their songs every single day 😑
And Katy Perry
Popular music station in playing popular music shock! I mean, what are they at - playing the current number 1, top 10, and most popular hits of the last year or so?! That'll never catch on!
I'd love if they had Ed, Paul McLoone, Dec Pierce, Claire Beck, Kelly-Ann Byrne and Cathal Funge in charge of the playlist, but that ain't gonna happen.
Graham and Nathan from Spin1038 are on Bank holiday Monday 3pm till 6pm on Today FM
No problem with popular music but why limit the variety by playing the same couple of dozen songs repeatedly until everyone is sick of them?
Yeah they've been doing the last 2 or 3 bank holidays
