Not a direct ALdi tip but I've been trying many of the items recommended on this Reddit thread over teh past few weeks and there are some good tips - https://www.reddit.com/r/ireland/comments/pf74of/what_are_your_hidden_gems_from_lidl_aldi_tesco/
Has anyone seen the strong cheddar cheese spread lately? I've been half-heartedly looking for it for the last while, but no sign on the shelves of the stores I've been in. I got a Charleville branded one in Tesco the other day, and it's positively anaemic in comparison!
Probably not the right place to ask, but has anyone's local store closed for renovations lately?
Did they discount any of their stock coming up to the closure?
Mine is closing for a week on Thursday so I'm wondering if there's any bargains to be had.
Has anyone tried the Hungry Elephant curry kits?
The jelly beans are back!!! π
Has anyone else noticed the icebergers are now gone very soft? I thought i was my freezer but my mother said the same.
I hope the wine gums are back too!
On another note, has anybody seen washing powder recently? The local stores only have liquid laundry detergent in bottles and in pods.
I quite like them.
Sher arn't the ice caps melting no wonder your icebergs are gone soft
Tesco Own brand Wine Gums beat all others (including Maynards)
On top of the return of the specially selected crisps and the new addition of the sweet chilli flavour ones this is brilliant news! I had stopped looking for them as a store manager told me they had been discontinued.
Frozen prawns in various flavours. Gorgeous.
After you've fried them, of course.
Edit: πOops...unintended necro-post.
Has anyone had a hard time getting the chilli burgers recently?
Haven't been in my local Aldi the past few weeks.
They weren't in Tallaght last week when I went in which was disappointing. Will be going again this weekend.
Think they may be a kind of seasonal product, if I'm not mistaken they seem to appear around "BBQ season" each year and promptly disappear again coming into autumn/winter.
Ah jaysus donβt be telling me that. Itβll be months now before i get another one!!
The Red Thunder energy drink & Earls meat pouch dogfood seems to have gone for good.
Don't recommend the meat balls. Even the dog would not eat them. And he eats all sorts of **** !
The cheapest plain meatballs aren't great alright. I do like the paprika seasoned low fat ones and the Irish Angus premium ones, both pricey enough for what they are
The cottage pie is nice but some days the potatoes on top has a vinegar tange
IMO most of the ready meals in Aldi (and Lidl) are fairly poor. Can't really think of one I'd recommend.
The Dublin meat company ones that Lidl are stocking are absolutely fantastic and unlike most ready meals, are healthy.
Spotted a breaded whiting in the fresh fish (not frozen) section today - had only even seen breaded cod and haddock. Has anyone tried it? Think it was gluten free too?
The lightly dusted cod has been thin on the ground lately, hope they are not phasing it out, it's lovely!!
Think it was Muhaahaha that recommended the lemon and parsley coated sole fish, delicious!
Got in from a call out at work last night to find the wife and kids chomping on, what I can only describe as mini magnums, only these were chocolate orange flavour. Oh lord, these are good. They'll no doubt do wonders for my (to Christmas) eating plan. Lol
The paella from the freezer makes a perfectly acceptable handy dinner/lunch
On that, "Flahavans jumbo oats" make as good a porridge as I've had in years, I make mine in a saucepan, one part oats to 3 parts water. Boil it up for 10/15 minutes on a really low heat, and you've a creamy breakfast that will definitely keep you going for 4 hours or so.
On the not so healthy breakfast products though, the kids let me try some "cheesy hash browns" this morning. I could easily munch through 4/5 of them unsupervised/watched. They're goddam tasty π
Those frozen lemon sole are the one thing I would go to Aldi specially for, I love them!
Word is out on the Pad Thai kits. Had to ruffle through six boxes to get some today (other flavors were overflowing)
Anyone tried the njdua sausage yet? How spicy is it? π
Haven't seen hide nor hair of it in Terenure for months now. Price point is gone too so I have to assume it's been discontinued.
I've 6/7 in the cupboard, I always grab a few if they're in stock. They're the kind of product that just stops all of a sudden so I'm taking no chances.
The red Thai curry is nice too. Its "mild" but far from it.
Whereabouts are these in store?
