The not knowing is ignorance by bar staff. More senior ones should know their product but the standard thing in Ireland seems to be knowing your customers alone.
Junior bar staff are likely in the job a wet week and will go when someone offers them more for any other job at all
The not making it clear they're Heineken brands - particularly for Cute Hoor - is deliberate though!
The use of "MCBC" on Archway is another deliberate obfuscation by a major
I'm most regularly offered HH13 when I ask for craft. I haven't come across Cute Hoor in a while though - actually thought it may have gone.
One can only hope! Absolute muck!
Last time I had it was on a ferry to France in the before times - it was still better than the other options!
My only pint of Cute Hoor ever was lumpy. I don't want to know how/why.
Except you only get 4 beers! Or 6 beers for the one at 150 euro
I didn't think the Rascal's Club Rock Shandy Pale Ale would sell out so quickly
Yeah I only saw that new stock was released a few hours after the fact and it was sold out everywhere. I'm not even that bothered, it's just the fomo and wanting to try one out of curiosity.
Galway Bay advertiseing for staff for "new Dublin bar" anyone know where it will be?
A lot of their pubs have the same landlord but I don't think they've any empty units at the moment.
Where did you see this?
The Black Sheep have it on their Facebook page.....
"Who’s looking for work? Galway Bay Brewery Group are hiring in various positions (part time/full time) in our NEW pub opening soon in Dublin City!
Send your CV to andy@galwaybaybrewery.com & mention any relevant experience & availability.
You’ll get to work with a great bunch & make loads of friends!! "
That sounds great.
Is it just me, or has the opening of dedicated craft beer pubs somewhat slowed in recent years? For a while there it felt like there was a new one popping up semi regularly, but (perhaps understandably) things have slowed.
Around The Clock Batch 3 has just been announced by Porterhouse, should be out soon I'd imagine. If it's anything like the previous two, it will be a thing of beauty
I see Mchughs have the Rascals Rock Shandy Pale Ale in stock, I was going to grab two for the missus but they have a max limit of one per order on the website.
Guess she wont be getting any so!
Just heard that it's The Oak on Parliament Street. It was bought by BRÚ but apparently GBB will be running it as one of theirs. Was past it earlier today and it's been thoroughly gutted.
Are they taking The Oak on the Dame Street side too?
Walked past that place nearly every day when I lived in Dublin and never once set foot in it. It's a handy location, would make a good stop between Porterhouse and Underdog(if it reopens under Brogans).
They'd have to, wouldn't they? Aren't they the same property?
Brogan's is being refurbed at the moment too, and the Underdog signage is gone from beaneath the window. If Underdog reappears I suspect it'll be somewhere else.
Well they were always separate pubs (under the same owner) when the Parlaiment Street side was called The Ivy and Thomas Reads.
I think they just pretended to be -- they still connected up on the inside.
Same licence. Would be an operational balls to have two operators.
GBB + cosiness will be a strange combination, assuming they leave the old Oak side alone.
yeah, the basement flooded more than once during the closures, and I have it basically from the horses mouth that they won't be reappearing under Brogans
I also have it from that same horse that they were offered a number of premises both before and during the closures.
Anyone who drinks there will know both owners, one of them has already moved on to another project and won't be involved with UD any more.
Bru and Galway Bay are merging, with GBB being the surviving brand for the pubs - I'd expect they'll keep the Bru beers for their Lidl placement at least.
Bru have big money behind them and I think own their pub buildings, GBB rent theirs so quite different in how they run despite both being breweries with a pub network.
that will be Bu's second involvement in a merger, having previously merged with Carrig - in that instance wasn't Carrig the brand swallowing Bru, but kept the Bru branding.
I'm not sure this is good news for punters/choice
In the before-times, your average GBB or Bru Hospitality bar had more choice on the taps than nearly anyone else. Currently GBB bars have very little non GBB product but that's due to reduced customer capacity I'd presume.
Bit of info here about the merger. https://www.businesspost.ie/hospitality/dublin-pub-group-merges-with-galway-bay-brewery-a46a831e
Plans to have 25 pubs in 3 years (9 more). I've wondered if they'd open a location in Derry but I figure they'd not be able to charge the prices they'd be after here.
Interesting. I had no idea Bru had big money behind them. They do a few good beers but would have GBB, White Hag, Dot and others ahead of them in terms of beer quality.
Hopefully the new enterprise succeeds and employs more people than both combined at the moment
