Wilder dropped him 4 (or 5 times?) in 3 fights. In his interview last night Fury said "you dont feel them you just wake up on the floor" so he was defo hurt. Amazing powers of recovery. Fury probably could've finished him earlier but Wilder was still throwing shots even though he was goosed from round 5 onwards.
Would love to see Wilder vs AJ in London. I think Wilder would destroy AJ quite easily.
Nope never, few knowledgeable posters on here were comparing his chin to ajs, laughable when you look back now. Fury has never gotten the credit he deservers for his boxing, conditioning, chin, ring iq etc.
This thread is the heavyweight boxing thread. Not just the Fury Wilder thread.
We discuss boxing from heavyweights.
Seriously, relax a bit. Why you seem a bit irritated because you perceive Fury to not be getting the credit he deserves?
Plenty positive posts from me on Fury and others, as well as boxing analysis, critiquing and discussion.
I'm sure you heard the expression lies lies and statistics.
Wilder had a great record against relative nobodies. He's not the hardest hitting heavyweight in History. Not even close.
He's come up through the ranks in a time when the US has no heavyweights of great mention. He blew cannon fodder out of the water.
No question He has serious KO power
Yeah I mean his ability to recover. For sure he can get caught but he shakes it off very quickly.
Walshb's comment about just how big a puncher Wilder is is the question I suppose. His level of competition outside of Fury makes it hard to say.
Can we leave this nonsense hardest hitter debate? Wilder hits very hard, as did many HWs. We cannot know who hit hardest. Unless we measure power/force..
one thing I am sure of. As overall punching effectiveness goes, he’s not in the debate for me
100%. Which is why Id like to see him up against AJ, Whyte, Usyk et al.
Totally. I think he did the right thing bulking up. His chin in the air tactic would be a bigger regret for him I think. He’s not as big or strong, not as good at footwork, very bad defence and has never shown an ability to fight at a fast pace for a prolonged time. He was gassing last night at any weight.
Exactly lets leave the fantasy match ups too maybe?
Wilder hits hard. No doubt.
As an overall puncher, he’s quite poor. Very little variation.
You can not say hes not the hardest hitting heavyweight ever, most actual boxers past and present have talked about his power. Cant be definitive, but its definitely up there.
No, let’s not. You can ignore if you like.
It’s not just a Fury praise fest thread, that you seem to want. Lighten up
Yeah it does piss me off, people watching last nights fight questioning his conditioning, you have questioned fury i dont know how many times over the years,. Will you admit he is the greatest boxer of his generation? Its all he can do, cant fairly compare eras so don't say yes greatest boxer at the moment but not in this era bla bla.
I’m a Fury fan and have said this from day dot. I’m happy enough with the credit Fury has been getting. I don’t care very much. Last night he made very heavy work of beating a guy who is levels below him with one real weapon. He deserves some credit surely for gritting through it. But he rode his luck something serious last night. On his right night he gives Lewis his fill of it and Lewis is an absolute bogeyman
Why is this so personal for you?
go find the posters questioning his conditioning…
So why ignore punching power of all heavyweights past and present?you are very selective about what YOU think should be allowed discussed here. Its all fantasy talk.
If im wrong on something i admit it, seems some people cant do the same.
Not ignoring. Just said that can’t be proved.
yes, fantasy fights can’t be proved either. But far more to discuss from it I feel.
Just looked at the 4th round again there. Fury was very lucky the whole drama happened so late in the round. A lot of Wilder shots didn’t land clean due to accident more than design from Fury. Wilder’s tactic of jabbing to the body did help him a lot. Scott has to take some credit for building him up mentally. I’m surprised that Fury wasn\t given a talking to for leading in with the top of the head
Look what you are saying is a contradiction, ill leave it at that. BTW nothing personal against you, even though it may seem like that at times ha.
What are you wrong on?
what am I wrong on?
I thought it was just opinions and discussions with no real right or wrong!
What contradiction?
punch power through eras can’t be proved
fantasy fights can’t.
Doesn't mean we can’t have an pinion on it..
definitively claiming with certainty is off the mark.
even if I am convinced Lewis beats all today’s HWs. I realize I can’t prove this.
no point ruining the thread, we disagree on fury, that's ok.
Fury is probably a hard nights work for anyone but I’d favour Lennox Lewis, Vitali Klitscko and a younger version of Wlad with Steward in the corner.
Wlad was in decline before that Fury fight. He was very hesitant throwing shots from the Jennings fight onwards. I don’t think he trusted his timing anymore.
Oh, that punch in the 4th from Wilder better than I initially thought..
second knockdown wasn’t a knockdown
What's the general view on the ref? Mora has given some terrible performances in the past. I wasn't excited to see him get the fight. But I thought it was a welcome change from Kenny Bayless. A ref actually willing to let the fighters work on the inside, and getting that he should stay out of the way until there's actual cause for him to get involved.
I really hope we get to see Fury vs. Usyk.
The contradiction that you said it was nonsense to discuss punching power between eras, but you wanted to discuss match ups between eras. If you cant see that's a contradiction, i dont know what to say.
Not sure why you think this.
Maybe don’t take these assessments on Fury so seriously. You’re saying you’re getting pissed off. I think this is OTT.
It is a nonsense.
we can’t prove it. And it’s far too linear and limited.
better discussion is who was the better overall puncher..
