LONG overdue
Planning permission sign put up this afternoon on the cutlery road for 20 apartments opposite the water tower in a five story block. Would mean the demolition of the abandoned building on the approach to the whitewater.
Is that the lot thats beside the carpark for timbercraft etc?
Its the site where an abandoned 3 storey office building currently sits, right beside the lights on Cutlery Road/ Athgarvan Road junction.
There is a planning application currently in with KCC for the site/ units where Timbercraft currently sit for change of use to retail only. The application seeks to change the facade etc to its original look and the site name will be called the "The Weaving Shed". KCC currently assessing that application. The documentation for that application had indicated that the owners of the site to left and right of it were in pre planning meetings with KCC. The site on the right is the application referred to in your post. The site on the left is anticipated to be residential and retail (No application yet in for this)

I would hope that Junction 12 would get improvement to allow for 2 lanes on the roundabout and two approach lanes coming from Newbridge (right lane for Curragh racecourse) and coming off the north bound M7 Ramp (one lane for Curragh camp & Athgarvan) and the new liffey bridge is now essential
what bothers me with all the residential houses being planned and built around the Newbridge locality is the lack of commercial units within the developments!
There is no allocation for a local convenience store ( Spar / Centra) or hairdressers or doctor practices etc. Yes, there's creches included in the plans but surely the potential new homeowners would need a local shop in their estate so they can avoid visiting the new for their essential supplies.
A spar shop will not be sustained by 200 houses.
However new retail will open in general areas once the demand is there.
Belin woods on athgarvan road will have a retail area, there's a new applegreen due on the station road and ballymany have both the maxol & the group of shops at langton cross. So really just something for the great connell area is required and I'm sure that will come
Doctor practices are moving to larger medical centre type buildings these days
There seemed to be building work going on in the former Bru House pub this morning when I walked by. Looked like they were bringing new materials into it rather than removing stuff. Could be nothing but has anybody heard is it reopening or is something else going in there?
I'm presuming from the planning application it'll be an Asian style takeaway.

All well & good all these houses being built, but where is the infrastructure improvements to accommodate the increase in traffic? We drive out of Roseberry Hill and have to drive over a traffic light controlled bridge to head north. And now the queues have started again to crossover the Liffey coming from the College.
We head in the other direction the bridge is two way but very narrow.
Is there talk of a road to the roundabout at Horse Racing Ireland to take you out to the Roseberry direction or did I just imagine that?
Hi there, sorry I am only seeing this now. I dont use Boards that often. We lived in D24 and moved during lockdown so it was a bit of a strange experience with everything being closed. Initially, I found driving back and forth from D24 to Newbridge a bit of a hassle as its a 30 min journey on the motorway. Now Im used to it. Its a straight run in the comfort of your own car. We are both working from home so I can't really comment on what its like commuting for now. When I do go back to the office eventually 2 days a week I will be getting the train to grand canal. If we weren't working from home or didnt know we had the option of a hybrid wfh model we wouldnt have moved here to be honest. Mainly because I work in the city centre. I do miss how handy it was to get onto the M50 to get to different parts of Dublin, now I have to add 30 mins onto my journey. But it is doable. Other than that I found that Newbridge has everything we need and more. And we love our house. There's no way we could have bought a house like it in Dublin. Where we live we don't see any anti social behavior at all. its very quiet.
I'd say you imagined that. 😄 The roundabout at Horse Racing Ireland is the exact opposite side of the town to Roseberry so I don't know how that could work. Unless maybe creating a ring-road through the Pollardstown Fen. 😉
Yeah must have. There's just something in my head about a new road to alleviate access to the Roseberry side of Newbridge. Maybe it something from Lidl or toughers to get to that side....maybe it was all a dream. Expecting to wake up in the shower at any moment....
There are discussions that involve three developers that would see a link road from near Jct 12 to Station road including a new bridge over the Trainline.
Very very early stages though.

Sorry for doubting you, GavMan! 😀 I'd love to see how it will work, and I'd be delighted if there was a decent bridge over the railway line (as well as that second one over the river).
I'd love to see it but I doubt this at the moment. The current LAP has land zoned near the railway line as agricultural (See I on map below). The only possibility would be that some landholders may be thinking about seeking different zonings in the new Newbridge LAP in which that process is due to start in 2022. The current plan was extended to end of 2021. The developers of Curragh Farm are building part of the towns distributor road system but that finishes at Standhouse Road, a new bridge over railway in that end of town is not even on the councils Roads objective in the LAP. As I said, hope I'm wrong but just done see it at the moment.

(Dub) Still on the lookout for houses in Newbridge, saw a place pop up in Barrettstown lawns there. Estate looks ok to me, slightly less convenient that other more central places we were looking, nothing else jumps out. Heading to a viewing on Saturday, so will have a further look around.
Anything to be aware of with this particular estate?

Does anyone know what is going on with the approved development for the add on to the courtyard shopping centre. tracey was granted permission in jan of 2018 and nothing looks to be happening at all with it
I think permission is valid for five years. I assume there are a number of reasons as to why nothing has happened.
There are no updated documents on the planning page of the KCC website that would indicate any works may be commencing anytime soon.
