The EU will not be re-negotiating the Protocol.
You are clinging to flimsy life-rafts again.
A caveat to that by the way: The EU has ALWAYS said they are happy to re-negotiate the Protocol and the Withdrawal agreement if NEW workable alternatives exist. That was said too.
Here is a post from me at the start of September stating categorically that the EU WOULD change rules in return for implementation of the Protocol...which was ALWAYS on offer.
The EU offered to change the rules as long as the Protocol was implemented in full.
In other words, easements within the framework of the Protocol.
TBH I'd be very pleased if unionists can claim a victory, however much of a deviation from the truth that is, and everyone can move on. I'm getting product into Belfast from the UK every week, the Protocol is fine for most sectors anyway.

The North will remain in the SM. Unionists can have their easements and rename it the 'King Billy Protocol' for all I care.

I'm afraid Beattie burned brightly for only a while, he ultimately wasn't strong enough to plough his own furrow. But there is no doubt the body politic in Unionism is moderating.
I've said it on this thread Francie, I still haven't lost faith in Doug Beattie. I may not agree with him lining up with the usual suspects on the anti-protocol nonsense, but my personal experience with the man makes it very difficult for me to be critical of him. He may have a different political perspective to me, but I have all the time in the world for him on a personal level.
No idea what he's like personally Fionn, seems like many I have had an enjoyable pint and debate with. But if he is just gonna row in politically with the DUP and TUV then he is politically pointless. UUP seem happy to be that for a long time.

doug has done this because he knows the majority of unionists are supportive. SDLP and shinners do not reciprocate because they know the majority of nationalists have a distance to travel to be open to diversity.

Try again: If he is just going to do the bidding of the DUP and TUV (which he has done despite fine words pretending otherwise) then he and his party are effectively the same as the above and pointless as well as toothless.
