I dunno buddy why don't ya ask them on twitter. You're well used to trolling them by the looks of things.
A lot of people obsessed about my twitter account. Not sure what it has to do with boards?
Why do you assume students going to a food bank for handouts are lying gougers? Is it because it makes government parties look bad?
What crazy nonsense.
You can be critical of something. End of. Instead of pointing out where she was wrong you and your pal are dodging.
I didn't see the poster say anything of the sort.
When I was in college, if they gave away a free pack of tic tacs I would have been in the queue getting them. More money for other essentials.
Standard student life, if it's free get it and get plenty of it.
Wasn't asking you but great story.
Are you calling all the people who Queud up for free Mcmuffins lying gougers?
Or do you think they were all poor hungry people who couldn't afford a breakfast?
Where did I mention lying gougers???
So you believe students required food aid due to food insecurity. Its a terrible thing to have going on. Agreed.
We need a government that put people first.
Give over what? I don't follow?
Didn’t say you did
Seems like you missed out on student life, it’s great fun believe me
I belive the whole sensational story is giving off a select few facts to suit a narrative.
The fact the comment section on the journal is 90% laughing at the ridiculous story says it all.
The journal out of all media sites.
Don't be so naive, there are no students starving to death.
Ffs I'm still amazed how some people would swallow a couch if you asked them to....
People and Irish people included love something if its free.
People Qd for hours for a free Mcmuffin.
Now would it be possible these students did the same??
I know I know, it doesn't fit the Leo wants students to starve to death narrative but sometimes it's good to come back to the real world and think like a grown up😉
I'd think given the lack of accomodation and sky high rents that students who are traditionally strapped for cash are now struggling and need to avail of food banks. I suppose I lack that cynical view of people you have.
You don't lack it.
You just won't admit to it because you have to make the government and Leo look evil no matter what.
Without any evidence you assume all these students can't afford to feed themselves day to day.
Buy sure look, it's all a political game to you and your merry band.
Back when I was in college I would have loved if there was a food bank I used to survive on the bare minimum to have a few quid for the Thursday night session.
Focusing on this one story is ridiculous. The cost of living in Ireland is completely out of control and it is impossible to deny that. Housing, utilities, and transport are through the roof compared with the vast majority of other European countries. The question isn't necessarily whether groceries themselves are overpriced, it's whether the cost of living leaves people with a reasonable amount of disposable income to spend on them after recurring bills are paid. That's where Ireland's cost of living absolutely hammers young people and that's why there's a knock on effect on how affordable a weekly shop is.
I've been saying this for years - FG and FF have spent most of the "recovery" fiddling while Rome burns in terms of doing absolutely sweet f*ck all to address the cost of living, and this - not history, not trendiness, not personality, not hatred - is why so, so many people are turning to SF. Neither of the two other large parties seem to have any actual concern for the high cost of living, and that makes people angry. They come across as not giving a f*ck, simple as that. It's not that people believe they are failing to address it, it's that many people genuinely believe that, at best, they just don't care, and, at worst, they are actually happy that the cost of living is so high because of the people that high cost of living ultimately benefits.
It should be blindingly obvious that this one issue is the absolute core of the SF surge. And it is moronic in the extreme for anybody to deny that the cost of living in Ireland is spiralling out of control. Study after study confirms it.
Argue over the UCC story all you like, it won't change the fact that the cost of living is a genuine crisis and the complete and total lack of action on it from those in power is what's driving the SF wave. Nothing else.
I don't remember food banks when I was in college and everyone was broke. We had jobs but rent was manageable.
I can only imagine the desperation of some now. You just won't admin there are actually people to the pin of their collars because you'd rather support a Tory lite crony such as Varadkar. What was it he said last week? One person's rent is another person's income?
Yeah that's back when you were in college. Funny how things don't stay the same.
Up 1% on what, the last poll?
If they had run more candidates the last time they probably would have got more seats than FF. If they are as popular as this come the next election they will get the most seats.
I didn't know Mary Lou cooked in her spare time.
He doesn't have to make Leo and Co look evil, they are doing that all by themselves.
Well its a story about people needing food from a food bank. I'm not assuming they're starving and I'm not assuming they are pretending just to get free food. You were.
A lot of people like to dismiss these things because its uncomfortable for them.
Again. Yeah.
Yes, Irelands cost of living is high. Yet at the same time, some parties want to
a) increase the minimum wage to 12.50 an hour
b) increase social welfare to 350 a week
Both of these will further increase the cost of living.
This may not be a popular thing to say, but the country is awash with cash at the moment, hence why stuff is going up in price.
Economics eh?
What is SF going to do about the cost of living as most of their economic policies center around more stimulation, tax cuts, more public spending and little reform? Genuine question.
Also, its hard to gauge anything from the UCC story. It could all be a bunch of students who saw an opportunity to buy more alcohol with the money they saved on food for a few days. Makes a nice headline though. Very clickbait!
It is interesting anytime SF make a big announcement or interview the direction this thread goes. We have multiple people trying to take it off the topic of the SF announcement. It would suggest they are aware how embarrassing the announcement has been and they have no defence. So instead of saying that we end up talking about Nazi or student habits.
They haven't taken any support from the government parties, they are taking support from the other left parties.
Also they won't be getting more seats if they keep going the way they are, the tax point was 140k, its now 100k. It proves that SF are full of it and in reality the worker is the enemy of this party. By the time the next election comes will they have reduced that to what to pay for all the magical things they are going to do? will anyone over 50k have to start paying additional tax?
Just as an FYI because of Lieo and co everyone will be paying more taxes after this budget. Carry on with your rant.
Rant? get a new one please. Didn't take long to drag Leo into the SF thread AGAIN
Maybe you could discuss the SF "budget" on the SF thread? or can we expect more posts about something something guberment something something
PRSI on pensions should go down well.
There’s no political mandate anywhere in the world to address debt / cost in any meaningful way. ‘Chaos economics’ when it’s gone it’s gone is the only strategy. It’s a giant ponsi scheme globally where the newest participants I.e. the younger cohort pay most to get into the scheme.
It’s going to be tough for Sinn Fein in government will they be able to manage potentially reduced corporate tax and increasing borrowing costs. I guess they will tuck tail and run like they did collapsing the northern assembly for bogus reasons rather than implement an austerity budget.
