Perhaps I am a bit of a technophobe, but the car does everything I need/want since I got it over a year ago. Actually I love the simplicity of it, no turning car on, handbrake, paddles, beaps and bongs etc.
One thing though that definitely should be fixed by now is the timed charging, though doesn't worry me too much as I am rarely in bed before the cheap rate..
Are you sure it actually arrived?😋 Hope it did, you should have it soon enough and all will be forgotten..😊
It does most things I want, but...
* timed charging doesn’t work
* speed limit sign shows in the local “currency” rather than in the unit you’ve selected (pain in the hole when you drive cross border regularly)
* 2/3 panel display behind the steering wheel defaults back to 3 panel every time even if you’ve selected 2
* wing mirror dip setting doesn’t save and has to be selected every time
* charge speed shows in km/hr rather than kW
* app functionality is shocking compared to Kia, BMW etc
* app reliability is crap
* auto headlights do stay on each time, but auto dimming doesn’t. WTF?
* Auto Hold is far too sensitive, especially when trying to park in a tight spot
* no individual user profiles
* voice control is the worst I’ve ever seen
* driving mode defaults back to comfort each time, but the menu says it’s still on sport
* no battery % display without digging into the menus
* wipers were not adapted to RHD cars so they’re crap in heavy rain
* online mode option shows every time
* no illumination on the volume/temperature sliders so can’t see them at night
* no option to turn off the low level cabin roof lights
* sat nav is terrible. You can use Android Auto or CarPlay of course, but then you lose the dash light strip indicators and the HUD visuals
Other than that though, top notch!
Great run down Phil -
If you knew all the above before buying would you still have purchased the car ?
Possibly would. The €2k off list and 0% PCP was hard to ignore. And they're irritations rather than deal breakers.
Plus the good and bad thing is that VW can fix most of these via software update. The good is that they can, the bad is that I have my doubts whether they will.
Hi all.
Trying to get the auto hold to work on the id3, like the id4. Any ides how I do this
Fair enough, even though I don't have some of those functions..😊
Think my app has only been down a few times in over a year, only want it to turn on/off heating and charging and check range. Agree re lack of kW displayed when charging, but at this stage I can judge it from km/min pretty accurately. I prefer creep to auto hold unless in hilly towns. Quick swipe enables/disables it. % battery should be included on speedo screen, hope on a later update. Auto dipping lights also default to off on other cars I drive, one quick flick away from you enables it.
I don't use voice control much, but seems to understand when my arse is cold.......😊
pull down the screen from the top.
should be hidden there.
I sure hope it has. No collection date yet but I expect by next week at the earliest.
Does the Life model have auto dimming headlights? If it does, I can't figure out how to switch it on.
Not sure if it does, but on mine you just flick the lights stalk forward and it shows a wee A on the display.
My base 1st does, works better than most
I've tried that with no joy, so it must not have that function.
Thanks
I have id.3 life and it doesn't have auto dimming lights. Had on my previous golf and found them slow to react and prefer manual.
I agree, was the same on my Civic, but handy if you have a few drinks in, cops watch out for cars not dimming appropriately.
Thanks got sorted,
Don't drink and drive then. 😡
Good advice, thanks😉
Totally agree.
I feel like a Wood Pecker tapping so many screens just to do a basic operation like turning on the Fan. Great car to drive though.
I find the app reliable (ie it has never not worked for me) but completely underwhelming. The app for my Volvo allows me to flash the lights and sound the horn, shows me the exact location of the car, lock and unlock the car remotely, reminds me by email to plug the car in if I forget and even has a trip journal of every trip with map and telemetry of battery/petrol usage at every stage between start and finish points for each trip. The VW app will, I believe, be upgraded but some of the added features will probably attract a subscription. The first three years of Volvo ownership the app is free, after that it will be £60 per two-year extension
Well we are coming from very old cars that we’re out before iPhone 1 so no apps 😀
but yes the app could be better I haven’t managed to schedule charging properly using the zappi yet either must crack that
The app heating is reasonably reliable. Sending destinations to the nav is awful though.
I figured out the Zappi schedule last week. I had to set charging mode to Eco+ and then set a schedule in Boost Settings. Not sure if that's the only way but it worked.
I used the WeConnect app to switch on heating the next morning (charged to 80%) the green charging indicator lit up again - I must check if that still works outside the Zappi scheduled charge time (I had set 23.00 - 08.00).
Yeah Zappi will need to be set to eco+ but you need to make sure renewable energy is set to 100%, can't remember exactly but if not set this way if the car is plugged in it will start charging.
Really the Pusar plus is a lot easier to use.
Finally arrived at the dealer!!!!! Only took 6 months! Hope to pick her up Monday evening.
Well wear!
Looks great. Same colour as mine. You’re gonna love it.
Greats news. Enjoy!
Excellent news, best wishes..

Something odd happening today. Had a relative unwell in Belfast, so needed to make the round trip. Car only had 25%.
Plugged in at home for an hour while I waited for the missus, no problems. Added about 8kWh.
Went into Derry and plugged into the rapid, all fine. Seemed to be charging at about 40kW. Had to interrupt the charge to go collect herself, then came back and topped up to 60% on the same rapid.
Got to Belfast, sorted out the sick relative (all well) and went into town to charge and get fed. While at the restaurant I noticed that the car was only charging at "12mph" which is about 3kW.
Got back to the car and headed on to the nearest rapid. Someone was on the CCS so I plugged into the rapid AC, and got the same 12mph.
When the other car left I moved over to the CCS, but even there I'm only getting about 26kW.
Any suggestions? Does the car maybe limit your speed if you've charged top many times in a short time? It can't be a cable issue as it has happened on my own cable, and on the fast AC. And the DC is also slow.
