So Saas is a buyer beware deal now. There is a lot in it that will get you in the long run. Yes good upfront offer but for me it's offering poor value.
If you work it right it's a good deal by sticking to the pv and if you want anything above the basic package paying upfront.
I got extra panels for 400 each. I'm considering a few more and maybe a 2.4 kW battery to avail of the grant thought with the cost of a hybrid inverter the battery might not be worth doing just yet
Hi
Could anyone recommend any installers that cover North County Dublin.
Thanks
Your right In what you and your friends did but as you said 90% of people buying an Eddie on credit is madness.
By the way €400 per panel is over the top.
Listen this will work out for some but it has too many pitfalls for me.
Hi , can someone send me a pm of the crowd that most people are recommending on here. Are they NI based?
It's not really ott. Midsummer has a 360 w for 190 plus the mounting system and labour costs. They have to make something on the job.
Suited me to get it done when they were on the roof.
They're NI based but registered in ROI so can do grant work. I'll PM now.
Pm sent
Tried to multiquote, did not work.
I was saved from being ripped off by you good folks here, so thanks.
Aren't most things buyer beware? I agree with southwesterly, if it works for you then it is a great deal. No up front costs and 2400 over 10 years. If they had not had an issue with calls and emails when I was looking for info I probably would have gone with them, but fear of communication issues in the event of an issue was important and getting the Eddi installed at a reasonable price was also a deciding factor. If you want a basic panel only system, or can get an immersion diverter installed yourself or by a third party it is probably the best deal.
You could also go with SAAS, get the basic 2.5kw system for 2,400, add on 2 extra panels for 800 and you have a 3.3kwh system for 3,200 net.
At first glance 400 per panel seems excessive but when you break it down for supply, fittings and installation its an ok deal.Other suppliers are charging way more.Below was the quote I got last October, wonder how much he was getting per panel.
3.7 Kw system.12 Peimar panels.
Hybrid Huawei inverter.
i boost.
E9895 WHICH INCLUDES 10% DISCOUNT.
Extra E250 for scaffolding.
Get own BER.
I have to sort out grant myself.
Company is promoted by one of our largest gas and electricity suppliers.
Jesus I hope you didn't go for that quote
No way, got good advice here from other solar users, but I was coming to solar power completely ignorant and I could have gone for it.I eventually went for the basic package from SAAs, no cash outlay suited me at the time and it was a way of tipping my toe in solar, but I regret I did'nt get more panels.
Neighbour got 14 panels and battery installed day after me by the the number crowd and his jaw hit the floor when I told him what I paid.
Active jaw drop, poor bastard.
Im happy it worked out for you.
He never mentioned the price he paid and I did'nt ask, he muttered something about the "wifes idea" and walked away.He still has the advert board on his front garden wall. With the recent price hikes in energy and the return of adult child(saving for deposit) I hope to increase size of system.
Installer in the midwest, seems pretty responsive to enquiries.
12 x 450W panels
6kW inverter
eddi diverter
5kW battery
All in with installation ~€10k after grant.
Not crazy, but I reckon maybe €1-2K+ over the odds from what I've seen. I'd pass - you can do better.
My installer charged €200 per panel fitted.
Yeah, 400 is taking the piss tbh.
The more I hear about that SaaS crowd, the more I don't like.
Was that extra panels Phil? what was the cost for the whole system?
You do'nt have to like , they suiting alot of people. Paying 2,400 for a 2.5 system is far from taking the piss, its the best value out there for that size system.
Some installers are making 4-5 grand for a couple of days work installing larger systems.
Dose it really matter, €200 or €400 for a panel what would you prefer.
Of course it matters, need to know what was his base price before he got extra panels at 200E,SAAS is 2,400 for 2.5kwh and 800e if you want 2 extra panels giving a total of 3,200 for a 3.2kwh system, very competitive in my view.
We will agree to disagree and leave it there.
As I have repeatedly said SaaS work for some. But the maths don't work for me.
Correct and thats why you got somebody else to install your system.
I have one small question for anybody reading the thread, what is a reasonable price to pay per panel supplied/installed as an add on to an existing system? I do'nt know what any installer charges but we have figures of 2-400 when panels are added on at time of initial installation.Anybody have them installed later on?
Yep 4, €800 next question
So you got a good discount as a returning customer, good to know. Was it long after initial install and was it a bungalow.
Roof or ground mounted system?
Bungalow roof
Yeah, similar to Maulbrook I crunched all the numbers back in July and if you are looking at a low end system (2.5Kwp or there abouts) that SaaS crowd looked to be very competitive, and while I didn't use them myself, if I had one of my mates looking specifically for that kind of system I'd steer them towards them.
However, I'd probably tell them to "go large or go home", and when you start to go up, to where I think most people should be..... something in the 4+ Kwp range with a 5Kwhr battery, they start to get increasingly less competitive. But for a smallish use installation, yeah.....pretty good.
Also (and this is just me), but I don't like to "owe things" even if it's at zero % interest, but I can see the attraction.
