Hi, I moved into a house that has been re-wired in the last 5-10 years. 2 rooms have lights that sometimes work and sometimes don't. I took off the switch plate to see was it a loose connection (see attached) and everything looks tight. I also tried various new bulbs but same issue. Does this wiring look correct and does anyone have any ideas as to why the lights sometimes work only. Note, one of the switches seems to work better when firmly pushed at the same time but again the wires look tightly connected inside so I am lost as why it would make a difference pushing the plate harder. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Possibly the contacts in the switch have arced and welded over time.

A new switch if you're confident enough or an electrician to do the job.

Any odour off the switch?

Having to push harder suggests a new switch would be the cure.

Another issue could be an incorrectly wired switch in another room. This could result in one light having to be on for the next one to work. Have you noticed any such behaviour.

I'd go with new switches firstly.

Always power off and photo old wiring so you know which goes to light and which to the ring. IF there's two switches for one light it's trickier to wire as three terminals are used.

If in doubt electrician.
