When minimum pricing arrives you’ll be looking at €40 for a case of Guinness unfortunately. That would take it to €3.33/l with the surgers €4.40/l. I’d probably still opt for the regular cans at that price. I’d be interested to see if they released a case of surgers at a more competitive price though

If anyone is looking for the nitro surge unit, carry out at the Penny Hill in Lucan have loads of them. No cans though.
Local Off licence manager was saying today that they're flying out the door, a lot more popular than they were expected to be.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see these bundled in with cans for maybe €25 once the novelty wears off.
I doubt they cost that much to produce and it’s a win win for Guinness to get people on the more expensive cans.
How do you remove the gas? Pierce the can first?
Yeah, pierce with a pin or something and wiggle it around slowly until it’s gone. Easy enough to mess it up and activate the widget if you’re not careful
Ruined 2 cans at the weekend trying this. Very difficult to know if you succeed to not trigger the widget. Both times I thought I had it okay but alas both times 20mins later I get a flat undrinkable pour with no reaction from the U/S device.
Wouldn't say it's that difficult to know if you did it right. You should hear the gas coming out.
The issue really is that the hole becomes exposed and then the widget activates.
Maybe you're using something ridiculously small that also plugs the hole snugly. Personally I use a dart so theres no chance of it being too small, it's just making sure I dont push down too much or involuntarily pull back.
I'd also recommend against leaving them for twenty mins.
They only need to be left for as long as it takes the gas to leave the can, the way I do them it's no more than a minute(move the dart around slowly until theres no noise of gas exiting before removing) and then I'll remove the excess head off.
I know when the videos were going around at the time one lad said to put them into the fridge for twenty mins but its completely unnecessary.

Spotted them today in Centra Upper William Street in Limerick.
Penny Hill in Lucan have about 12 units and they have cans, not on display, have to ask for them.
why go to the bother!? just buy the nitro cans instead of all that faffing about!

How much are you drinking of it to really matter ....
I've tried a few times and have activated the widget every time.
So I just left the can open for about 1 minute and then used the device to pour anyway.
Was fine, better tha a normal widget can pour. It seems to be important that the can is cold enough though. I usually put a room temperature can into the freezer for 35 minutes before opening.

A few of us out last night, had surger cans, Nitrosurge cans and both units.
Disagreement over the nitrosurger vs surger, some saying nitro, others saying surger.. but unanimously agreed the other Chinese one does a much better job. It is noticably better than the Guinness one, and if you know anyone with it, try it out or ask them.
It's an odd one to be honest because they all just shake the drink. The Guinness one gives a perfect over the top of the glass dome. I don't see how you could improve on that. It doesn't make sense. It doesn't make the rest of the drink taste better just gives a good covered head on the top.

Well, to be perfectly honest, I'm not sold on the value of the product anyway, I don't think it tastes better. But as far as 'shaking the drink' they seem to require the perfect khz frequency, and while I don't know what either of them are (I guess around 45khz) the Chinese one definitely does it more consistently. we tried to make a video but it didn't show it well enough. If you get a chance, to try both, you should try it, The Guinness one set against the glass is closer to the feel of pouring a pint from tap, that's about it. If you don't do that you run the risk of larger bubbles in one area too, That didn't seem to happen with the Chinese one.
How many cans does it last?
Its rechargeable. So tens of thousands I'd imagine.

The draught cans are €2.00 for 500Ml the new nitrosurge cans are €2.50 for 568Ml . So that's €2.27 per pint versus €2.50 a pint .

I wouldn't be into doing the pinhole thing etc.. But the price you mentioned for the draught is if you are buying the cans individually. I have no idea if you can buy the nitrosurge cans individually.
Currently in Tesco it is €10 for 8 draught cans. That's versus €15 for 6 of the nitrosurge. That is quite a big difference.
As said below, I’d generally only buy Guinness on offer. Whether that’s 8 for €10 or 24 for €20/24, so yes there is a huge price difference there. The nitro surge cans are new to the market so they haven’t been on offer yet. I’ll still buy them every now and again but I’m not going to pay twice the price for the same drink
When the minimum pricing comes in then the price difference between them will narrow. I’m hoping that by not buying them they might start introducing offers to buy them too. For now I’ll buy the discounted packs regular and the nitrosurge ones every now and again
Oh and just to be a pedant, the nitrosurge cans are actually only 558ml
Bought the surger unit and a few cans at the weekend, the pints look and taste great IMO, its ncie to have a full pint at home from time to time, dont mind the cost, the one off 25 eur isnt too bad and I would only drink one or two at a time so paying the 15 eur for 6 cans would prob last me at least 3 nights (that id be having a few). I would recommend for sure.
The head looks great, you get the domed top over the top of the glass like a 'real' pint, and the settling is also real looking.
However, it still tastes like a can of Guinness rather than a pint of draught if you ask me. Not enough body to it.
