Did they get back to you? They’re very slow to deal with altogether, they badly need more staff, they must be loosing a lot of business.
i know admin was out 6-17th Sep but even before this and since very little communication.
Im gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and hold on another couple of weeks and and if still nothing I think I’ll just go the DIY route
Finally got a call back from SAAS, sounds like they've been swamped with enquiries too
OK guys. I was just chatting to Gerhard. Sacha who looks after the customer contact has been off sick the last few weeks. She's back and they are playing catch up.
Thats dose not inspire confidence.
I've heard that from a few. I'll send the boss a text find out what's happening. A friend contacted them after we got ours in and no answer for him either
The SaaS provider has completely stopped communicating with me anyone else have this problem? I don't think I was that annoying literally asked them to requote without the water diverter, 380w if possible and 2 additional panels (8 total)to use all the available roof space. I've sent a few emails, both phones going unanswered and voicemails not being responded to. Might not be interested in power only?
In comparison my 4.65 kWp system only moved me from a B2 to a B1.
C1 to B1 with 3.7kWp system does not make mathematical sense unless the house is tiny?
We got the panels for 400 each. Total of 6 panels between 4 of us. Also got a cash rebate towards the ber. So it wasn't a bad deal.
What you did was probably the wisest move, getting a few people together and getting a bigger discount.
I'd be shocked if you didn't get to B3 with a solar install especially if there is some other work done that has to be taken into account. Our system is only 3.7kwp and it took us from C1 to B1. Cavity pump, attic insulation and new doors took us from C3 to C1 before that.
I bought extra panels from them as did my friends.
Paid upfront for the extra as it was more cost effective
SaaS is quite restrictive, but it suits my needs - small roof area so can only fit 7, maybe 8 panels, could not justify a battery given the low output, and the only change is an Eddi/iBoost. If SaaS can do 7 panels installed for €4200, then others should be able to do similar - 7 panels and Eddi/iBoost for €5000 before grant for example. But the quotes I am getting are over 6k before the grant for 7 or 8 panels installed and an Eddi.
Edit for clarification as I have received help and advice from people here regarding larger systems. I had gotten quotes for more panels and looked at getting a battery when I thought there was only the 50cm from edge requirement from SEAI for the grant. Then I learned about the 20cm from roof peak, and 20cm around velux windows and that destroyed any hopes of more than 8 panels!
SaaS is best option for small non battery system but if you go with a battery or much large array their prices are worse.
The installer I went with cost less than SaaS battery + hot water diverter option. Plus I got twice the number of panels and paid for changeover switch to run on battery and solar in case of power cut.
Im not surprised as from what I can see Saas looks like a very restrictive setup. Non saas systems can be of any size where saas looks like a one size for all kit.
Now I could be totally wrong as I have no need to look at it.
What size of system are you looking for ? If only around 3kWp, then SaaS would be a good option
Has anyone successfully used SaaS to bargain with other installers? Whenever I bring up the price from SaaS I am met with deafening silence.
Any recommendations for installers in north county Dublin ? I’d appreciate a PM. Thanks.
True about the size of property. Should have mentioned that.
A new door will definitely have some effect on your BER assuming the new door has more insulation that the previous one. Just note the kWp of your panels does not mean every house will jump the same amount in their BER assessment as it also takes account size of property.
There is a thread on this https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058191951/typical-ber-improvement-after-solar-pv-install
For comparison I topped up attic and pumped walls and it moved me up one notch from C3 to b3.
A 5.7kwp system then moved it up to A3.
Not sure your door will make a difference to a BER. Also no idea how much difference the stove makes as you're still burning fuel. Maybe between this and the attic you'll move to C2.
A 4kw might move another 2 notches I reckon.
Hi Folks,
Would those who have gotten solar installed (and were happy with price/install) around the Dublin/ Kildare Naas area mind sending along a PM with installers details.
Thanks in advance
Thanks fully I've no mortgage but you've definitely hit a winner with the cheaper rate.
Another thing I did was to put those sealing strips down all the doors as well as a draught proof strip under them.
Removed the strips after it was over so I could close the doors but it all adds up
Good idea, I do plan a new boiler, to insulate the inner walls and the attic after Christmas, so I’ll keep photos and the receipts for future use.
the whole BER cert seems to be a minefield.
Yep, I'll be honest - it's the AIB green rate that is my primary driver, but our house is a C3, and it looks like getting solar plus battery won't bring it to the necessary B3.
Having said that, other improvements we've made since the C3 rating was done would all help.
Happened to me as well but my good wife had all the photos I took during the re build So we could prove what work was done. Went from a c3 to a B2.
With the B2 we have now moved our mortgage to AIB green rate of 2.15% from 3.2% with Ulster Bank.
So all is a winner in my book. Its not all about pay back time. Less oil bought and a cheaper mortgage.
I only got 3.24kw.
I replaced an old Stanley oil range with a high efficiency boiler. Also took out all the 60 w tungsten bulbs and put in led
From what I understand the way it's calculated changed as well.
That seems like a low impact from the solar panels - C1 to B3? I would have thought they'd have a bigger impact on the BER than that.
Interesting to note the massive jump from the boiler and door upgrades though.
I had my walls insulated but couldn't prove it as the paperwork was missing when I bought the house. He couldn't include it even though he could see the beading
I have a published BER from 5years ago already, not much has changed except LEDs and from what I can tell from the solar quote, I would make the grant, they just want to be sure I think, the dude doing the BER mentioned any upgrades to insulation you need to keep the receipts for proof
