I'd imagine that it's just convenient to claim plastics/environment, as it is that the cans are also more expensive.
Tried it last night on a Guinness surger can as well as a can of O'Hara's Nitro Stout.
Wasn't overly impressed with either attempt.
As long as the cans are cold enough this is fantastic. Very impressed.
Tried a few last night. Not getting much of a cling to the glass vs the jewellery cleaner. Don't think its worth the 25 quid + more expensive cans.
How do you wash your glasses out of interest? I don't get much stick from my jewellery cleaner at all.
Bought a six pack of the Nitrosurgers, but not the gadget, I have an ultrasonic cleaner. First one I tried was into in a modern Guinness 'gravity' glass and while it was a good pint it wasn't any better than a standard Guinness draught can. The second was into an old style pub Guinness glass and it was superb. The surge seemed stronger and the head was creamier and a nice smooth taste.
There was a good 'shtick' from the head all the way in both glasses. For reference I wash them by hand using very little detergent.
Yeah excellent 'stick' here too but cleaned the glass manually first with a tiny bit of detergent then loads of hot water and dried it well.
why would you want pint residue on the glass?
This thread is gas.
Tesco Kildare town had plenty this evening
Wow
Tasty 😋
Ha showing my ignorance obviously!
The first time I heard of this stick thing is on the guinness guru YouTube channel.
Its worth a watch there is one were he drinks a non nitro can of guinness, so essentially his first time actually tasting guinness and he does not like it haha.
I have a friend who got one of these a few months ago and is using it, says it works great. I didn't check if the Czech Republic one ships to Germany, if it does, it would work out a lot cheaper than the alternatives, as you can use something like mailboxde.com There are coupons etc. that I think bring the nromal price down to €16 ish for the other stores delivered to Ireland, which is still around 4 cans cheaper than the official unit. I'll post a video he sent me in a few minutes.
EDIT - Here's the video.
The item costs e25, not e2500.
Why would anyone be looking to cut corners ordering a beer former online at this point?.
There were people buying them when the rest of us got the jewellery box cleaners and I dont recall them working at all.
The video shows it working, €10 cheaper or possibly €15 - €20 cheaper isn't really what I would call 'cutting corners'. It is essentially the same unit or similar, just not as overpriced.
€40 for the first 6 pack is a bit galling imho. It's an alternative. You don't have to get it And for anyone that already has it, and were unsure if it would work with these cans, it does.
Ah sure it’s a bit of craic anyway!
It is funny alright. Domes. Stick. But fair play to him he does blind taste tests where he shows he can't tell the difference between any of it.
It's €25, you'll have a 1 year warranty. I presume Guinness will want your drinking the new cans, so will have no problem sending ya a new one if theirs a problem. If you drink Guinness and want a higher quality pint at home, I reckon its fairly good value all round.
Is there anywhere to get cheaper cans for the surger?
24 for 24 or 24 for 30?
Until then it's just an over priced gimmick.
Use the regular cans and remove the gas before opening the can
Does anyone know where you can get 500ml glasses? It’s just not the same pouting the smaller cans into a pint glass 😔
I got one last week, doubt I'd notice anything in a blind taste test. But tbh, it looks and feels like a real pint, i hate 500ml draft cans not filling the glass.
Basically Guinness marketing but I'm happy to use it. Just need a few Guinness tulip glasses as I hate the new ones
3 months to minimum pricing so they're just establishing their price point. Don't see them reducing the can prices.
Might be a controversial opinion, but I don't find any difference between these and the standard cans pierced and put into a ultrasonic cleaner.
They're definitely not as good as the imported surger cans.
If thinking that way, you could buy 4 of the other ones. It was an option, mainly for the people that already had one, or for the people that thought the Guinness one is ridiculously over priced (as it is). As mentioned, nobody has to buy either one of them.
I take it there isn't any floating about in North Dublin. Been to a few places, All sold out
There is a shortage on the actual surgers themselves. Due to a microchip shortage in China is what I'm told today. Dunne's have 60 cases (20 surgers in a case) being split between all stores this week and that's it until Diageo can sort out supply.
Can someone keep us posted on how much mine's worth now? Original packaging, unwanted gift.
My local O'Briens had a plentiful supply of cans and surger units this morning.
( Sorry BeerNut, looks like yours is still only worth €25! )
If you can pick one up in Dunnes, you can get it effectively for €15 by downloading the Dunnes app and using the €10 off €30 voucher (with a fiver of groceries to get you up to €30 spend).
How long realistically will they make these cans? I doubt that enough people will buy the surger to justify them making the cans for a long time so you are effectively spending 25 euro and a premium on the cans for a short term gimmick. Think I’ll stick to the normal cans and the odd pint in the pub.
