The left hand nitro is one of my favourite stouts, wouldn't get it often but always appreciated in this house.
Anybody find these in the shops yet? Went to my local Supervalue and the girl working there didn't know what I was talking about. Thought they were out this week
Wednesday seems to be the day they'll hit the shops.
Yup, we are getting them tomorrow (Dunnes). Diageo rep was around today with one. Nice little unit, comes well packaged with the surger itself, the "tap" which is detachable, cleaning brush and a usb cable to charge it. It will fit any can but as mentioned previously it won't really do anything for cans with widgets etc.
Will they be available in all Dunne's stores tomorrow do you know? I'm sure all the Dublin ones will have stock but perhaps they won't make it to Dundalk tomorrow.
Any idea whether the unit itself can be bought using a shop & save voucher?
I can't say for certain as each region has a different delivery schedule and not all stores may be listed for it. Most stores should have them by tomorrow afternoon/evening depending on when the truck arrives ,gets unloaded and the pallets worked off etc. Don't go rushing into the shop at 10.30 expecting them to be on sale immediately!
Cheers for this info! I was indeed contemplating taking off work and barreling in at 10:30! That would have been a wasted trip so many thanks!
You would actually consider taking a day off work to buy an existing beer released in a new format??
Really? If you aren't jokingly, it's truly bizarre.
Not a day no, just an hour. My job is very flexible but I am truly excited to get my hands on one of these. If it creates a slightly nicer pint at home, I'll be very happy!
Bizarre? Perhaps. Each to his own I guess!
Dunnes city west tomorrow, saggart Friday seemingly, and someone said he got one in Tallaght.
I ended up ordering online! The stock level seems to fluctuating in the Guinness site. Sold out one min and available the next!
Dunnes Donaghmede are sold out, only cans left.
We only got ten cases of cans in with surgers to match.
Got one in my local Dunnes. There was only 2 or 3 there but it's a small off license in this outlet.
Also pro tip, you can use the E10 off e40 voucher on the device so by throwing in e15 worth of food you're getting the device for e15 😁.
Was wondering how the inside would work re: using the widget cans. It looks like it may work as the beer doesn't have to come specifically from the open lid, so the extra hole on top shouldn't make any difference.
Might try a regular can later to compare it to the surger method.
Picked up the first one just off the Truck in Dunnes Newbridge
Dunnes clondalkin and tallaght checked no sign. Just ordered online from Guinness for collection , says within 24 hours
Where can you order it online?
The Guinness storehouse website!
Tried a normal widget can there using the piercing method.
Doesnt seem worth it for those cans anyway.
It settled as quick as it does from a can pour whereas the jewellery box cleaner gives it a really long surge. This settled pretty quickly. Also not sure about the second pour, it said not to push the button so when I poured the device was off and there wasnt any extra surge.
So first impressions anyway are if you want to keep it cheap, the jewellery cleaner and piercing the cans works better.
Good to know about the regular cans. I've a couple of trays of them so won't throw out the jewellery cleaner just yet!
As for the second pour, I could be wrong bit is that not to imitate the pressure of the tap when pushed forward? I actually always top up my surged can with the remaining flat Guinness left on the can. Works a charm for me!
There's not meant to be any extra surge on the second pour. You've built the head, you've waited for the foam to tighten. The next step is to fill up the glass without adding new foam so you get tight foam at the top, peeping over the rim. Pushing the tap handle back for the top-up does the same thing, apparently.
Hi All anyone know if the cans and device are available in the Dublin Area ? I tried Kilnamanagh & The Square last night and they had none on display
I always found pulling down the handle again poured a better pint tbh. I know it’s not what they suggest but preferred the pint that it produced.
And now you can try out out at home!
I used to think that too but don't think it makes a difference. Just good marketing by Guinness. Same as the 119.5 seconds nonsense 🙄
I'm inclined to disagree. The second part pour uses a different pressure level so should result in a creamier head. But either way.....I want a surger....
Nothing new about Guinness marketing bolloxology... as one of the lads "pints" 😉 out, corks are hygienic enough for Champagne. The real aim was to cut costs and by bottling the product at the factory make the product much more consistent.
that's a brilliant video, a real glimpse into the past. Did nobody drink pints in those days - when was the nitrogen keg introduced?
Oh I intent to!!
