I think one also has to go back into the mid 90ies in Ireland especially South West of Ireland. The Gards were not really known for a whole lot of competence back then and police corruption wasn't exactly one single isolated case. Murder is was probably a once in a lifetime event in this part of Ireland. I also suspect that the Gards were totally inexperienced and ill-equiped to handle the case of Sophie back then, and a possible stake in drug trafficking would have taken care of the rest.
It's also a bit hard to imagine how a man like Bailey would have done his freelance job without decent internet connection or decent cell-phone coverage. But apparently he was able to do so...
I recall the saying "If you want help you call the Gards". "If you don't want help you call the Gards".
Now things have changed for the better regarding policing in Ireland. There was a good number of cases were the Guards were having a good amount of success against drug trafficking.

Landline, typewriter, fax , shoeleather, payphones like everyone else, journalist and non journalist business people
Am I right you cannot watch VM IB online unless you have a paid VM account? I do not have TV
That's how it was back then. Not that it matters to the crime. I was just stating, for those who aren't old enough to know these times.
You won't be missing much,
find something useful to do for that hour.
Put it another way , Moonunit will not lose much sleep.
Daily Mail quotes him as saying Sophie "wasn't the most beeautiful woman he'd ever seen." So chivalrous to the last is our Ian...
how do you know what i would miss? Anyway i want to see it. I will decide if the hour is worth it
Yes I read this - not a nice thing to say and an unnecessary comment really. I think its his clumsy way of saying he didnt fancy her. Im hoping he does himself justice in the interview and doesnt make anymore foolish comments like that.
. I was just stating,
I was just stating,
ok i thought you were asking
what they said was "None of the local off-licences stocked it but it was for sale in airport duty-free shops."

I don't think she was especially beautiful either . Why shouldn't he say it if he feels it? I think there is a lot of "don't speak ill of the dead" going on. It is also true she was an adultress so she was no angel. The punishment for that is not having your head bashed in though and she did not deserve to die like that. But neither should she be made a beautiful saint. She was just a person with good and not so good parts, like everyone
He's damned either way tho. If he says she's beautiful thats it he musta doneit!!!
What's he supposed to say??
I saw the clip of him saying that and was cringing 😬 … he can’t help himself! Though I completely get his point, he is answering the interviewer who states how stunningly beautiful Sophie was; to my eyes too she was plain - but whatever floats your boat. Thankfully Bailey didn’t say exactly that, but not far off.
I know - its hard to win when your IB. I guess we are going to have to wait and see the interview to know in what context it was said. I does seem kind of irrelavent though whether she was beautiful or not - Does it make a difference.
Dont worry, another clown on this thread making out as if nothing dodgy happened, move along. Bailey's interview will be interesting.
where is this clip?
Well Jim I can understand you are not exactly over the moon about someone making out nothing dodgy happened...
Okay if the interviewer brought it up it's somewhat forgiveable; he was kind of damned either way...
Wonder if the 'body language experts' with their 'statement analysis' LOL will be watching
The fashion police should send him down for a long time!
Bailey will claim in the interview this evening that the person he believes killed Sophie is from Bantry and is now deceased
It was a figure of speech, I believe there will be nothing revealed that hasn't been discussed on here.
I hope you find a way to view it.
For me, I'll see how it's going and maybe switch over to watch the Father Molloy documentary.
ha ha he definitely be convicted. I was actually thinking he has gotten very casual in his dress for TV. Before it was suit and tie. I think he drags it all out to get more material for a book he will write
You mis-interpreted my post,
I can't see how you can read that into my posts.
I believe there will be nothing revealed that hasn't been discussed on here
You could be right. Still like to see what he says, after all Sophie's son got his say
Strange not to name the deceased... if it was a living person you could be sued but unlikely in this case
Was the "randy guard" from Bantry
Not really unless you want to balls up any current investigation
What if it was Chris Farrell? Marie Farrell has given her husband the perfect alibi and drawn all the attention away from him. How serious was the assault charge that he faced? She got him off of that with her continued shenanigans.
How does naming them interfere with an investigation into a crime from 1996 where the named suspect is deceased? The dead person is never going to stand trial.
How do you see it affecting the investigation?
