Will racism ever end?

Just got off the phone with my wife, as she was walking a man slowed his car down, shouted racist abuse at her and laughed and drove off.

She was upset, it's not the first time she's been abused and sadly I fear it won't be the last and as I consoled her I just thought, will it ever end?

The man who did it obviously didn't see or care about the impact. I was just thinking, as long as there are humans will there be racism?

As nice as they look I'm not sure media campaigns or people taking the knee etc will stop it, it obviously highlights it but doesn't it just highlight it and make an impact to those that wouldn't do it anyway?

Will it ever stop? I'm not sure it will.

Racism exists in all cultures and countries and I don’t think it can be eradicated only minimised.

Some if the stuff that comes from US progressive circles that is deemed anti-racist I find incredibly racist. It’s a different type of racism to calling someone names it’s more of a racism via low expectations. Think examples of getting rid of standard testing because some minorities do worse then others. Instead of looking into reasons why and seeing if there are ways of bridging the gap. I would say the anti-racist movement is probably making things worse.

in the normal run of things I'd always switch the groups around to see is there a consistent argument one can see. I'd make an exception for the N word, they can have it and it wouldn't be worth dying on a hill trying to change the situation.

I asked you what "overtly racist" was to you. I never once said I wanted to use racist language and it's disgusting that you would try to frame it as if I did.

You were the one advocating for societal punishment for their usage. Is that across the board or is it dependent on the situation? So when you ask what acceptable usage of racist terms are, you need to define what the racist terms are and does it change depending on who is saying it?

blacks have managed to recapture the word though its not exactly uplifting , when blacks use it, it has a gang/street culture sense about it which is regressive so if it disappeared all together it would a positive

It is interesting how some people can use it and make it sound funny and positive though. The right person using it in the right way makes it into an almost humorous sing-song word. A bit like the right Cork Accent using the word "Langer". The most recent example I think can think of was the near 3 hour Podcast Joe Rogan did with a Comedian and actress "Ms. Pat". Nothing about how she used the word felt negative to me in any way - and in some ways it even fed into the humour and positivity and general character she has.

I didn't decry how the n word isn't allowable. I asked if you would stick to your assertion that people should be challenged on their use of racist language if the person saying it wasn't white.

It wasn't a fair question. It was a deliberate attempt to (wrongly) frame me as racist. It's not the first time someone has done it, it won't be the last either, but im ok with that.

Well dunne the answer to that is context as you already pointed out.

I don't believe anyone should use any word when the intent behind the usage is racist. For example black is a colour but if someone uses black as a descriptor of the people they hate then the word suddenly has racist intent.

I don't think the word black should be banned from use but it should not be acceptable to make hate speech either.

If the word is deemed as a racist word, I don't think that it should be tolerated just because of the skin colour of the person using it.

Anyway, enough of the n word discussion. Now back onto your calling out overt racism. What overt racism do you not feel like is being highlighted and what societal punishments do you feel are appropriate.
